Chapter 501

Spoiled by the President

After listening, Lucy looked at Joel with a smile. She had to bear the pain in her heart. She then frowned slightly and looked puzzled.

She wanted to ask him why she was not worth it.

She was not trying to get the answer, she was just trying to fool the man.

But Joel did not give her the opportunity.

Seeing that she was about to speak, he knew that she was going to say way worse stuff than that.

However, he did not want to listen.

He was very distressed and his hands were shaking.

Nonetheless, he did not want to insult her.

If he said it, that would mean that she was being treated as such a person.

Countless excuses were flashing through his mind at that moment.

At last, he said lightly, “You’re dirty.”

Lucy’s face stiffened.

But he turned around and did not look at her again.

That was the euphemism he could have thought of to not categorize her with those people.

He felt that his remarks went too far.

It was to the point that he dared not look at her expression again.

If she admitted it, it would undoubtedly be the worst wound he would ever receive..

If she did not and argued against the assertion that he made just now, all her previous efforts would have been in vain.

Although the true reason was unknown, at that moment, he understood that she did not want him to approach her.

Pushing him away like this was the last thing she needed to do to protect her dignity.

Since she had sacrificed so much, he would fulfill her wish.

Giving her some space and also giving himself some time.

Joel left Lucy’s room after that.

There was no superfluous nonsense, nor did he hear her explanation.

Tears suddenly flooded in her eyes when she was looking at Joel’s back.

However, she restrained herself from crying.

She feared that he would unwittingly return, and she would be unable to explain.

The woman only cried after she heard the door slam.

Heartbroken.

But what she did not know was that Joel had not gone far.

He leaned against the door and heard Lucy crying. Unconsciously, the man wept.

Joel was in so much pain that he could not breathe.

There was no choice.

All he could do was to fulfill her wish as best as he could.

She loved him but had to push him away.

Then she must be facing an unspeakable pain.

He did not want to bother her.

Joel smiled awfully thinking of this.

He lifted his head, dried his tears, and left as if nothing had happened.

He had treated Jada badly. There was no way for them to continue pretending as lovers.

That was great, he could be a playboy again.

It was also good for him to heal the emotional damage he had suffered from Lucy.

Lucy lay in bed and did not care whether her body was exposed to the cold. She cried hysterically and heartbrokenly.

Susan covered her with the quilt. She hugged Lucy in her arms and constantly stroked her back.

“Sweetie, don’t be sad, stop crying.”

Susan kept coaxing softly.

But it did not work. Lucy was still crying loudly. Even at the end, she kept sobbing and had difficulty breathing.

She knew that she could not do anything, she could only provide endless company.

Hence, she did not say anything. She just hugged Lucy quietly and waited for her to finish crying.

After a long time, Lucy finally got out of Susan’s arms with her eyes swollen and her voice was sore.

Susan quickly drew a tissue to wipe off Lucy’s tears.

Lucy let Susan wipe away the tears for her. She then looked at Susan quietly as if she had something to say.

Susan immediately stopped and waited for her.

What Susan did not expect was that the first sentence she would speak was to ask why Joel was here.

Susan’s face stiffened upon hearing this question.

Lucy did not say anything. She just looked at Susan calmly while waiting for her answer.

Lucy knew that Susan would not betray her and it was impossible to find Joel.

So, he must have come here by himself.

However, she needed to know when Joel had arrived and how he had forced Susan to take him upstairs.

The question was not meaningful. She probably only wanted to know whether she had done too much.

Of course, this behavior did not make much sense either, but she just could not help but want to guess.

She might want to comfort or deceive herself.

She was dead inside now. Thus, she had to look for some form of consolation.

Susan could not read her mind.

Lucy’s real thoughts were somewhat pathological.

So, Susan was a little anxious.

She lowered her head and had been hesitant to speak.

Lucy thought she was just too nervous.

“It’s okay, go ahead, I won’t be angry.”

Susan lifted her head and looked carefully at Lucy. She made sure that Lucy was not angry and felt relieved. She said, “He threatened me with my family, saying that if I didn’t bring him to your room, he would leave them all unemployed.”

Lucy was stunned for a moment, apparently not expecting Susan to give such an answer.

Susan grew panicked as soon as she saw Lucy’s expression.

She thought Lucy was angry.

She quickly explained, “Lucy, I didn’t mean to betray you. I did it for my family. I don’t want them to lose their jobs...”

However, she was interrupted by Lucy.

Lucy slowly shook her head and chuckled softly. “It’s alright, I understand why you did it. If it was me, I would have made the same choice as you.”

She did not think that Joel would go to such an extent for her.

Lucy whispered in her heart.

Joel had always been arrogant and ruthless.

He would play dirty tricks, but was always open and forthright.

Threatening someone was cowardly and was something he never did.

Lucy also knew that Susan would not betray her easily.

Therefore, Lucy could imagine how much time he had spent trying to convince Susan.

In the end, he had to threaten her...

However, having said that, Lucy felt that if Susan disagreed with him, he might do what he had said.

There was no way she could blame Susan.

Lucy had done nothing wrong.

Susan accidentally ran into Joel, who had just arrived at the bottom of Lucy’s apartment building, when she went down to buy medicine for Lucy.

No one could have known how deep Joel’s concern for Lucy was, not even Susan.

Moreover, everyone who knew Lucy knew that Susan was her manager.
