Chapter 542
Spoiled by the President
Joel Foster did not know if Lucy Katz went home.
When he was at the hospital earlier, he heard the doctors say that if there were no problems, she could be discharged that day.
Before he left the hospital, he asked the doctor about Lucyâs condition. The doctor said that her injuries were not critical.
That was why Joel could leave the hospital with ease, else how could he leave Lucy alone there?
Joel thought to himself that he had to ask Lucy face-to-face.
At that time of the night, that man should have left Lucyâs house. If he was still there at this hour, it would have been suspicious.
Joel decided to see for himself.
He wanted to ask Lucy why she went into another manâs arms even though she still had feelings for himself.
Joel also wanted to see what Lucy was up to at night.
Did that man follow her home?
What was the relationship between the two of them?
Joel contemplated for a bit and decided he was going to do it.
He quickly jumped out of bed and could not care less about the time.
Joel was already sober from the drinks he had earlier.
He wanted to resolve this by himself and did not want his driver or housekeeper to keep him company, so he quietly got dressed, went to the garage, and drove himself to Lucyâs house.
During this period, Joel never stepped foot in Lucyâs house but only knew her address.
Since he was going over, he thought he should familiarize himself with the directions.
Shortly after, Joel had already arrived at Lucyâs house.
He did not know if it was because he missed Lucy or if he was just desperate for her answers.
Joel drove so fast that his speed was almost that of drag racing.
Due to the late hour, there were not many people or cars, so his journey was smooth.
In a blink of an eye, he had already parked his car below Lucyâs apartment.
Joel took out a fresh bouquet from the passenger seat as he got out of the car.
He bought these flowers from a 24-hour flower shop on the way to Lucyâs.
All women these days loved flowers. Even if he was here to talk things through, he should still give her a romantic gift.
Joel held the roses in his hands and walked towards Lucyâs apartment.
Just as he was walking in that direction, he saw a man at her apartmentâs entrance.
That man looked familiar.
He was indeed the person that Joel almost fought with at the hospital.
Why was he at her house so late?
Joel watched as that man left the apartment and his mood darkened.
He did not imagine that the man would still be at Lucyâs house at this time of night. What were they doing?
Joel chose to stay at his current spot and quietly stood behind his car.
He silently stared in that direction and tried to figure out the situation.
âThanks for sending me home tonight.â
Lucy walked Mace Smith to the entrance of her apartment and thanked him.
âNo problem. What are we? Weâre buddies! Your bodyâs not in the best condition and you were only discharged today, so I ought to offer you some help.â
Mace smiled at Lucy and said.
âYup. Itâs late. You should get going.â
Lucy glanced at her phone before leaving the house. It was already past 11:00 pm, almost midnight.
Earlier, she looked absent-minded, so Mace was worried and insisted that he follow her home and he would leave soon after.
Lucy could not hold him back and allowed him to come in for a while.
At her house, Mace and herself were in the living room deep in a conversation that they lost track of time, else he would have already been home by 9:00 pm.
That was why Lucy felt apologetic seeing Mace who was standing in front of her.
The weather today was cold, yet she allowed him to stay until this hour.
âNo worries, can I give you a hug before I leave?â
Mace asked Lucy with a serious face.
Lucy was surprised by this.
She could not understand why Mace would say this out of the blue as she had already hugged him earlier today. She felt a sudden panic.
âWhy are you looking at me like that?â
Mace saw Lucyâs reaction and laughed out loud.
âI just wanted to give you a friendly hug. Donât overthink it. Iâm not like that man earlier today.â
Mace was afraid Lucy would overthink this and hurriedly explained.
Even though he felt like hugging Lucy, who would never tell him what was going on, Mace understood deep down in his heart that he would never want things to get awkward between them.
Moreover, he only wanted to quietly stand by Lucy as a friend and not let her get hurt. He should not rush it if they wanted to be together.
Mace was more than willing to wait for the day Lucy accepts him in her heart. There was also a contract between them, so Lucy would not run away.
This was something Mace was certain of.
âYouâre still not willing to hug me? Look, my arms are tired of being in this position for so long!â

âOkay, Iâll give you a hug.â
After all, she troubled him all day and Mace had helped her so much. A hug should not be that big of a deal.
Lucy then stepped forward into Maceâs wide-open arms.
The two of them embraced for a short while and let go.
âAlright, I can go home now. Take care of yourself. Call me if you feel uncomfortable!â
Mace lifted his head and saw there was some dirt on Lucyâs forehead, so he lightly blew on it.
From the corner where Joel was standing, he saw Mace and Lucy embracing each other tightly. Mace even kissed her on the forehead.
