Gideon leaned into his seat, giving Gareth a half-hearted smile.

“I remember telling you that I’m only responsible for investing. I’m not involved in choosing the roles and the shoot.”

Gareth let out an awkward smile.

“I know but this is a special circumstance!”

He swallowed a mouthful of saliva. His courage was wearing out.

Gideon lethargically scoffed.

“Oh? How is it a special circumstance?”

“It’s like this. My present thoughts are for Nell to play Ashley Watson because she’s well suited and if Celine agrees to it, she can play Alison Watson.

However, erm... she might pull the funds so...”

He smiled embarrassingly. His intentions were self-explanatory.

Gideon raised a brow.

“You want me to invest more?”

Gareth nodded.

“Alright!”

Gideon pulled open a drawer of his desk and retrieved his checkbook. He wrote on a check.

He then slammed the check in front of Gareth.

“I can invest another fifty million on my personal account but the condition is that Nell isn’t allowed to act in this film!”

Gareth widened his eyes.

Glancing at the check then at Gideon, Gareth could not believe his eyes.

“No, wh-why?”

Only God knows that he had already made up his mind on how to persuade Nell to join the crew.

From today’s performance, he dared guarantee that Nell was a budding actress.

There were two types of actors, one came with innate skills while the other had to acquire skills.

The latter acquired and honed their acting skills through hard work but for the former, they were born to be on screen and to be in the spotlight.

He could not be mistaken after years of being in the industry. Nell had a gift in performing arts. With his polishing, the film would be a huge hit!

Gareth could not wrap his head on why Gideon would ever refuse!

Gideon sat there, watching him with a cold smirk.

“You can pick anyone but her to be the female lead! I don’t need to explain myself to you. Get out!”

Gareth’s face saw a continuous change of emotions. It was quite a fascinating display.

He had the urge to throw a tantrum but he did not have the guts. Gareth wanted to reason but Gideon made it clear that that was it.

In the end, he walked out in a huff.

Gareth was halfway out the door when he recalled something. He turned back and retrieved the check and his laptop before leaving.

Gideon scoffed as he stormed out.

It was a joke to suggest that his woman start acting.

What if she got hurt engaging in many fight scenes and was exposed to the elements?

Most importantly, were there sex and kiss scenes?

Humph! Gareth sure had his head in the clouds!

On the other side, Nell was unaware that she was denied a chance by a certain somebody.

After having her lunch, she took Lucy to Gareth’s office after receiving a text message from him.

She was about to leave after signing the contract when Gareth strayed way off the mark in conversation with a face of remorse.

Nell was dumbfounded.

Through the phone, he expressed tactfully to leave his mother out of the matter. In other words, they were restricted from laying bare the truth to the public. Hence, they had to come up with another way.

Showing understanding, Nell gave him her word.

She found out the ex-girlfriend had gotten a new boyfriend after digging deeper. The girl must have thought that since they had to separate anyway, she could at least get her hands on some funds. Hence, she agreed to his mother’s plans.

Nell quickly got in touch with the girl.

Playing her cards well, Nell obtained an edited voice recording and video from the girl before forcing her to publicly admit on Weibo that it was all a lie.

Nell still gave her an out.

Instead of admitting to taking bribery, the girl was free to express her resentment after splitting up, which led to the tangled web of lies.

Time was still required to weather the storm.

It was still early when Nell returned home in the evening.

Dinner had not been prepared as it was just before six. Gideon should be home in another half an hour or so.

Nell said, “Ignore me, I’m just taking a look around.”

Aunt Joyce came forth with a smile. “Missus, it’s greasy in the kitchen. Why don’t you take a seat outside? If you’re hungry, I can pour you some soup to take the edge off. Master should be home soon.”

Nell grinned. “What’s for dinner?”

Though puzzled by her question, Aunt Joyce answered truthfully.

“Braised bamboo shoots with mushroom, fish in vinegar, hot and sour lotus root, lotus soup, seafood dumpling...”

One could not help but drool at the menu.

Nell pointed out two dishes from the menu.

“Are these two dishes prepared already?”

Aunt Joyce paused before answering, “Not yet.”

“Okay, leave these two dishes to me!”

True to her word, Nell put on an apron and began cooking after a change of clothes.

The maids were astonished but quickly relieved to learn that it was for Gideon.

The Missus and Master sure had a great relationship. This estate should see a new young member soon by the way the relationship between this handsome couple was developing.
