Chapter 566
Spoiled by the President
Upon hearing that, Lucy paused for a moment. Then, as if struck by a thought, she pushed him away and ran out in a flash.
On the balcony, strong winds were roaring and giant raindrops were falling incessantly. The moment Lucy went outside, she was blown by the wind and slammed into the glass door. She had just muffled a groan when she felt a strong grip around her arm and she fell into a warm embrace.
Joel looked at the sky outside and murmured, âThereâs going to be a thunderstorm.â
âI know.â Lucy could not even open her eyes due to the strong winds. âMy succulent plant is still outside.â
She had just bought it a few days ago, but she was already so fond of it that she had put in all her effort to cultivate it.
The more people feel trapped in their personal circumstances, the more they would use these plants and animals to give themselves a sense of hope.
It was as if watching the plant thrive allowed them to envision their own futures.
As she spoke, she looked like she was going to rush out again. Joel looked at the multiple pots of succulent plants on the balcony and pulled her backward. âHold on to the door and donât move.â
With that, he rushed out and quickly moved the pots of succulent plants into the house. Then, he shut the glass door and locked it.
Lucy had found some transparent tape, so the two of them taped up the larger pieces of glass to prevent them from shattering due to the typhoon.
When that was done, they heaved a breath of relief.
Although the wind was roaring outside, the house was quiet.
The two of them stood in the living room, with the big eyes staring at small eyes. Lucy was a little embarrassed that she was acting so sternly towards him earlier. Not only did he help her to brave the wind and rain but protect her doors and windows as well, and now, she felt a little awkward.
She grinned nervously. âCan your chauffeur get here in such weather?â
Joel cleared his throat and took out his phone. âIâll call and ask.â
When the phone connected, he glanced at the woman and saw that she was staring at him. He had no choice but to speak sternly, âWhere are you?
Why havenât you arrived?â
The chauffeur who had been waiting downstairs was flustered. âSecond Young Master, I arrived a long time ago.â
âWhat? The Third Ring Road collapsed? Youâre stuck in traffic? Okay, you donât have to come and get me anymore. The typhoon is so strong, Iâm afraid that youâll be in danger. Just go home!â
The chauffeur was speechless.
When the line disconnected, Joel shook his head helplessly.
âI donât have a choice. The rain caused a landslide. Looks like Iâll have to stay here for a night.â
As he spoke, he plopped back down on the sofa.
Seeing the situation unfold, Lucyâs eyelids twitched. Her gut feeling immediately told her that this was a bad idea.
She hurriedly said, âBut... Thereâs only one room in this house, the second bedroom is piled with junk. Itâs not convenient to clean it up so late at night. Thereâs a hotel nearby, how about you stay there for a night?â
Although she worded it as a suggestion, the refusal was obvious in her tone.
Joel threw her a glance. His expression was unreadable, but his gaze was cold.
âYou want me to sleep in a hotel?â
Afraid of offending him, Lucy smiled angelically and added, âI mean... Iâm just afraid that you wonât feel comfortable in my house. After all, your body is accustomed to expensive things, whereas this place is old and dilapidated. Iâd feel bad if youâre uncomfortable.â
Joel stood up and smiled. âItâs okay, Iâm not afraid of some discomfort. If youâre truly worried about me being uncomfortable, why donât you take good care of me tonight? Perhaps, if Iâm happy, Iâll gift you a big mansion. What do you think?â
While speaking, he gently stretched out his hand to cradle her chin.
Lucy immediately went stiff and instinctively took a step back, avoiding his hand.
Joelâs fingers were left hanging in the air.
Lucy dropped her gaze and forced out a smile.
âThatâs alright, if you really want to stay here, Iâll clean up the room for you.â
After saying that, she quickly ran away.
Watching her hastily departing figure, Joel narrowed his eyes and retracted his hand. A silent smile appeared on his face.
Very soon, Lucy had cleaned up the room for him.
In fact, it was not quite accurate to say that she cleaned up the room for him. After all, she knew the temperament of this young master.
Usually, she was the only person in the house, so even though there were two bedrooms, only one was used, while the other was used as a storeroom.
The bed was piled full of empty boxes. Lucy merely moved everything aside and made the bed.
While the room appeared neat and clean, she would dare not suggest for this young master to sleep in this room.
Thus, she could only let him sleep in the master bedroom, while she slept in the second bedroom.
When Joel saw this, he did not pester her any further. He obediently went into the room to rest.
That night, Lucy did not know whether it was because the bed was unfamiliar, or because her heart was burdened.
She slept restlessly the entire night. Groggily in the middle of the night, she even dreamt of the time when she was a child and her father had just passed away.
During that difficult time, her mother dragged her thin and scrawny body along as they waded the troubled waters.
She knew that even if she did not care or do anything else in this life, the one thing she had to do was take care of her mother.
Those dark and difficult times were all in the past. Now, everything was going fine.
It did not matter what happened to her. As long as she could cure her motherâs illness, even if she had to sacrifice everything, she did not mind.
That dream was deep and long.
In the silent night, a drop of tear fell from her eye.
A manâs soft sigh suddenly sounded in the darkness.
Joel stretched out a hand and gently wiped away the tears in her eyes. He then pulled the covers over her before turning around to leave.
The next time Lucy woke up, it was morning.

Sunlight streamed through the window, bathing the entire room in a warm glow.
She squinted her eyes and stretched her body. Suddenly, she remembered that Joel was sleeping in the room next door.
The realization struck her with a jolt. She quickly sat up and looked at the time. When she saw that it was already 9:00 am, her face paled.
She muttered an expletive and hurriedly got out of bed.
However, when she finally got dressed and rushed to the room next door, she found that Joel had already left some time ago.
The room was now empty. Touching the quilt, it was cold, and there was no trace of body warmth left.
This meant that he had left a long time ago.
Lucy breathed a sigh of relief. For some reason, she did not know whether to feel relieved or disappointed as her heart felt somewhat strange and complicated.
Regardless, it was good that he had already left. At least, he would not cause her any more trouble.
Thus, she did not think too much about it. She merely assumed that Joel had left due to an emergency. Without making a phone call to check on him, she went to wash up.
After she had washed up, she made breakfast.
Then after breakfast, around 10:30 am, Carina came to pick her up.
These two days, Susan Reed did not arrange for any special jobs for Lucy, except for a talk show.
