Chapter 571
Spoiled by the President
Joel interrupted her. âIâm well aware whether or not Iâm indebted to you. You donât have to explain it to me.â
Lucy, â...â
She was helpless about the situation but deep down inside, warmth gradually seeped through.
Just then, a piercing scream came from the left side.
The pair turned their heads and observed a middle-aged woman decked out in jewels come crashing into a table near the door.
Coming in high and mighty, she bolted to the table beside them and slapped a young girl, who looked to be in her twenties, across the face.
âYou b*tch! Iâm going to get you for seducing my husband!â
The womanâs high-pitch voice attracted everybodyâs attention.
The man seated beside the girl turned red in the face, promptly stood up and stopped her while stating sternly, âWhat are you rambling on about?
Sheâs only a client of mine.â
âClient?â The woman appeared arrogant. âI think sheâs a client in bed!â
âYou!â
The girl who was hit covered her face in embarrassment. She bit her lip and answered, âPresident Cann, we should talk about the partnership another time! I have to get going!â
She was about to leave.
Yet, she was pulled back by the pestering woman.
âYou think you can just leave? Iâll let you know that I wonât let you two off easily without explaining this matter today!â
âEnough!â
A tight slap landed on the womanâs face. The man was in shock for a second too after the slap, but quickly clenched his teeth and turned to apologize to the girl.
âMiss Davids, Iâm really sorry. You should leave. Iâll find another time to discuss the partnership with you in the office.â
With a stiffened look, the young girl threw a glance at him and coldly blurted, âThereâs no need for that. President Cann, you should take care of your personal business first!â
She then took large strides and took off in a huff.
âDonât leave, you...â
âEnough already! Donât you think youâre embarrassing enough?â The man pulled his wife to the side. His complexion was ashen and pale all at once amid the strange looks he was receiving.
âStephen Cann, you jerk, how dare you hit me! You b*stard! What did you say to my dad when you married into my family? Sob sob sob sob... This is how you treat me now that youâve grown a pair and my dadâs dead? You heartless...â
Since the woman could not hit the other woman, she let it all out on the man. She grabbed him by the clothes and engaged in a tug-of-war.
The man flew into a rage by her causing a scene, and the mention that he married into the family, in particular, struck a hidden nerve in him. He grabbed her by the wrist and pushed her away while yelling in anger, âEnough! Elaine Hodges, keep up with your tantrum and weâll divorce if thereâs another peep from you!â
Having been pushed away, the woman collapsed on the ground. She was in a daze for a second before bawling her eyes out without a care for her appearance.
The man grimaced. He exclaimed. âYou did this to yourself!â
He then stormed out of the place.
Lucy turned her gaze away.
The steak in front of her was already cold. She put down the cutleries and wiped her mouth.
âThis woman is unreasonable. I would just divorce her if it were me.â
Joel may have a straight face on but a hint of taunt slipped past his eyes.
âI wouldnât say so. Did you notice the pairâs watches just now?â
Lucy raised a brow.
Joel continued, âItâs the latest couple watch released by Cartier. The price point is at least a hundred thousand. Donât you think itâs too much of a coincidence for them both to be partners and yet share the same couple watch?â
Lucy had not paid any attention to this detail but his words took her back to the time the girl withdrew her left hand when getting up.
A furrow formed between her eyes. âSo itâs the manâs fault to begin with?â
Shaking his head, Joel grinned. âThatâs not necessarily true. It canât be just one personâs fault for every problem that arises in the marriage. Look at that woman...â
He suddenly paused and stared at Lucy who was eagerly waiting for his take of the story. He raised his brow. âAre you full?â
Lucy was taken aback but ensued with a nod.
He called for the waiter to foot the bill.
After paying for dinner, the duo got up and left the restaurant. They headed to the parking lot.
Lucy was all over him as she asked, âWhat were you saying about the woman?
Joel refused to give a reply. Instead, he extended his arm and gently tapped on her forehead. âWhat does other peopleâs business have to do with you? You sure love gossip.â
She covered her head with a contorted look on her before staring at him in disbelief.
This man...
When did he learn this bad habit?
Did he think she was a ten-year-old kid to be knocking on her head?
Arriving at the parking lot, the duo found their vehicle and got inside.
Joel had just started the car when suddenly, a sneaky figure appeared within a distance.
Fixating their gaze on the figure, they realized it was the same middle-aged woman who made a scene in the restaurant.
While running her mouth to herself, she stuffed a bunch of plastic bags in the exhaust pipe of a BMW.
Lucy burst into laughter. âYouâre right. The woman isnât someone to mess with.â
Joel casually curled his lips.
The woman stood up after stuffing the exhaust pipe and took notice of Joel and Lucy in the car as she turned her head.
Perhaps still livid, she glared at them and shouted, âWhat are you looking at? Have you never seen an exhaust pipe stuffed? Men are all the same and youâre one too! I can tell youâre just a pretty face. Canât you just keep your d*ck in your pants with a young student? Be careful of karma!â
She got into a nearby sedan and drove off.
Both Joel and Lucy were petrified the whole time.
A while later, Lucy broke into a roar of laughter.
âHahahaha...â
Black in the face, Joel turned and gave her the evil eye.
Lucyâs looks leaned towards the girl-next-door kind, especially when she was without makeup.
For the sake of convenience, she dressed simply to go out. It was just a plain white T-shirt and shorts, paired with a pair of white shoes. She even tied her hair in a high ponytail. She really looked like a student at first glance.
It never occurred to her that the woman would mistake her age and fail to recognize her.
Wahahaha...
The more she thought about it, the more amused Lucy was. She rocked back and forth in laughter on her seat. While guffawing, she retorted, âDonât take it to heart. She was complimenting you, pretty face! Haha! That was so funny!â
All the more Joelâs face was a glum. However, without saying a word, his eyes merely darkened to see her laughing heartily.
He started the car and drove out of the parking lot.
With a capital advance in the economy, the night sky was filled with a sparkling riot of colors. After a good laugh, Lucy took out her phone to look and was at ease to find nothing on her.
It was 10:00 p.m. by the time she reached home.
