Chapter 614
Spoiled by the President
âLucy, how are you? Are you okay?â
Mace quickly ran toward Lucy once he was released.
However, she frowned slightly and subconsciously took a step backward while facing Maceâs enthusiasm.
His hand that was ready to hold her stopped in the mid-air all of a sudden.
Lucy looked at him and said, âIâm fine. Thanks for your concern.â
Maceâs body also stiffened upon seeing her estrange him. When he became aware of it, he slowly put his hand down. He smiled weakly after a while.
âIâm glad youâre alright. Iâm just worried about you. So, I came over.â
Lucy nodded her head.
Neither of them spoke after that.
It was getting awkward. They used to talk about everything, but now, they could only look at each other without speaking.
He wanted to tell her many things. However, he could not say a word when he saw her face.
Endless bitterness welled up in him. It looked like Lucy did not want to speak to him anymore. She remained silent for a while and said, âIâm fine, Iâm not hurt. Theyâve got him, so you can rest assured now.â
Nodding, Mace tightened his hands on the side, but he still smiled at Lucy gently despite that. âOkay, I get it. Itâs getting late, Iâll be heading back now.â
Lucy nodded.
He then turned and left.
As she watched his back, she frowned slightly. She only sighed after he entered the elevator.
Carina whispered from behind, âMiss Lucy, Mr. Smith has already left. Letâs go back.â
Lucy nodded. She then turned to Mike and the others and said, âThanks for your hard work.â
Mike quickly bowed. âNo, itâs our duty.â
Without any other word, she turned and entered the house with Carina.
As it got later in the night, Lucy was able to sleep soundly. Her fatigue from the past two days was finally wiped out after having a good rest.
It was already 9:00 a.m. when she woke up the next day.
Carina did not leave yesterday. Instead, she had slept in the guest room.
When she woke up, she saw the breakfast prepared on the dining table. Carina smiled and greeted her, âMiss Lucy, are you awake?â
Lucy responded with a smile. She glanced at the breakfast and then walked to the living room. She stood at the window, stretching while facing the sun.
The sky seemed to have cleared up after the storm, so the weather was particularly nice today. Since it had been cloudy the past few days, the sun unexpectedly came out today.
The sun shone on the snow on the treetops and the roadside. The snow reflected the sun and emitted a dazzling light that seemed to sweep away sadness.
Lucy then went to the dining table and started eating breakfast after she had done some easy stretching.
Meanwhile, the doorbell rang.
Carina put her chopsticks down and said, âIâll get it!â
She then hurried to the door.
She did not expect to see Joel as soon as the door was opened.
Carina was shocked. On the contrary, Lucy was not surprised. She stood up and smiled at him. âHave you eaten?â
Joel shook his head. âNot yet.â
Judging the situation, Carina said wittily, âIâll set the table for you.â
She then added a new set of bowls and chopsticks at the table.
Fortunately, Carina did prepare a lot of breakfast, so they could feed not just Joel but also Mike and his men who had been staying outside the door all night.
Lucy noticed that Joel looked a bit tired today. The dark circles under his eyes showed that he must have stayed up all night.
She took his bowl and ladled some porridge into it. She then asked, âSo, how was it? Did you figure out what happened last night?â
Joel lowered his head and had some porridge. He said, âBasically, the guy has confessed to it all. Thereâs no use for him to conceal anything at this stage. Last night, he took us to the old factory and moved the corpses out of the basement.â
Although Lucy knew that it would turn out like this, she still could not help but feel nauseous.
She suppressed her inner disgust and asked, âAre those people dead?â
Joel nodded. He seemed like he did not want her to worry. Thus, he glanced at her and said calmly, âThose people often commit crimes in our society.
They were just fighting against each other. You donât have to feel sorry for them.â
Lucy barely smiled.
Although he was right, still, she had met those people before. She could not believe that they had died in such a horrible way. She felt very uncomfortable whenever she thought about it.
She was just a regular lady. Although she had a hard life since she was young, she never witnessed the darkness of the real world under her motherâs protection. Consequently, she felt very upset at this point.
Joel accompanied Lucy to the police station after they had finished eating because she had to go through the procedures.
Because everything had already come to light, she just needed to go through the procedure, so it was completed in less than half an hour.
Joel did not let Fourth Cecil see Lucy again because it was unnecessary. In fact, he never wanted her to see how dark and dirty the world was again.
Joel said after coming out of the police station, âThey will continue to track the gangâs accomplices, so you donât have to worry about that. Youâd better bring along two bodyguards wherever you go since you hold such a special identity. Iâll arrange for experienced people who can be trusted. Itâll be much safer.â
Had it been in the past, Lucy might have rejected his request. However, she did not say anything now as she just nodded and accepted the offer.
She knew that she had no other choice.
She used to think that she was very strong and did not need anyoneâs protection. She thought she could protect herself and her mother.

ï¤Chapter 487 The End Pt. 5 After this incident though, she realized that her so-called strength was useless and not worth mentioning in front of those truly strong and powerful people.
Let alone those truly strong and powerful people, even if it was only a gangster such as Fourth Cecil, she could not deal with him. Therefore, she had no reason to reject his request for her and her motherâs sake.
Joel was in a better mood after seeing her accepting his request, so he reached out his hand to hold her hand.
Lucyâs body slightly stiffened. She turned and looked at him.
He was not looking at her. Instead, he cast his eyes outside the window.
Nonetheless, a slight smile could be seen from the side of his face and indicated that he was really happy.
Lucyâs heart suddenly softened as if the warm sunlight coming in from the outside the window was spilling on her heart.
She thought to herself silently that perhaps this was the best situation.
It was really good. Joel and her mother were by her side. Neither did she have to think about anything nor did she want to.
