Chapter 624
Spoiled by the President
Jada Swanson was glued to her tracks.
Her face was as pale as death.
âW-What did he just say?
âW-Wife?â
âYou both...â
She lifted her finger and pointed at them in disbelief.
Joel Foster lifted his hand which tightly interlocked Lucy Katzâs fingers.
He smiled slightly. âWeâre married now. Ms. Swanson, can you give up already?â
Jada Swansonâs body was trembling in shock that she nearly fell to the ground in a disheveled heap!
Fortunately, her girlfriends reacted quickly and held onto her. She was saved from further embarrassment.
Jada Swanson was so furious that her face was flushed red and her eyes bloodshot. Tears raced down her cheeks.
âYou both went so far as to get married? I refuse to believe this! This cannot be true!â
Joel Foster's face was painted emotionless as he replied, âItâs up to you whether to believe this or not! I have no obligation to explain it to you. I only came to inform you so that you will not come and trouble us in the future. Ms. Swanson, we are all grown adults. I hope that you will not make yourself look shameful anymore and not disturb other people any further.â
After he had said this, he completely ignored her and left the scene while holding Lucy Katzâs hand.
Jada Swansonâs heart was aggressively stabbed by the tone of his indifference.
She turned to see their backs. Their hands interlocked each other. She clenched her fists tight in anger.
âLucy Katz, Joel Foster.â
âHow dare you both hurt me.â
âI will not let both of you go easily!â
...
After Joel Foster and Lucy Katz left that shop, they went into another shop to buy the rings.
The ringsâ design was simple. Although Joel Foster felt that the pattern was too plain and he was not satisfied, he could not resist seeing Lucy Katzâs fondness over them.
She clung onto his arm and acted coquettishly. âI wonât be wearing it often anyway. Whatâs the point of buying such expensive rings? Why donât we buy those that we can wear on any occasion? So that others may not have suspicions even if I wear it on another finger. Donât you think so?â
Joel Foster could only helplessly heave a sigh upon hearing her words.
He held up his hand to rub her nose and smiled. âI really donât know what to do with you.â
Lucy Katz smiled back at him. They strolled around until six in the evening, by then they were hungry. Both of them remembered that they promised to have dinner with Gideon Sam Leith and his gang.
They then made an appointment with them in the group chat to meet at half-past six at the pavilion.
While in the car, Lucy Katz recalled Jada Swansonâs reaction when they were at the mall.
She grabbed onto Joel Fosterâs hand and asked, âDo you think Jada Swanson will finally give up, judging by the reaction you saw earlier?â
Joel Foster had a headache thinking about it and rubbed the temples on his forehead.
âWe canât do anything if she doesnât surrender. Donât you worry, I will protect you. I wonât let her hurt you.â
To his surprise, Lucy Katz faintly humphed and hurled his hand aside.
âWho needs your protection? I might as well protect myself. That would be safer.â
Joel Foster felt a throb by his brow bone when he heard this.
He subconsciously felt that something was amiss.
He turned to look at Lucy Katz. âWhat do you mean by that?â
Lucy Katz raised her eyebrows a few times. Her tone was filled with playfulness.
âIsnât it true? Ms. Swanson used to be your lover after all. When the hype of the gossip and scandals were at their peak, did you not protect her as well? Now you have turned your back on her. Who knows if Jada Swanson now could be me in the future?â
Joel Foster paused and was about to laugh out loud.
âIsnât your jealousy due to you being oversensitive?â
A moment of realization dawned on Lucy Katz.
She felt slightly guilty when he said this. Her face flushed red but she lightly humphed in disdain.
âIâm not being jealous. Iâm just stating the obvious.â
Joel Foster looked at her arrogant little face and mulled over the situation. Finally, he heaved out a faint sigh.
He held out his hand to grasp onto her hand, but the lady was still unhappy. Who would want to hold hands with him?
She immediately pulled her hand away.
Joel Foster laughed helplessly at this sight.
He explained, accompanying his bitter laugh, âLulu, what if I told you that there was nothing between us, would you believe me?â
Lucy Katz looked at him stunned.
He massaged his temples looking quite distressed. After thinking through thoroughly, he continued, âI admit that I was quite the playboy in the past, but I know my boundaries. I was quite wild back then, but I never went that far with anyone.â
âYou know too that in this circle and with my kind of status, women flock to me like bees to honey. You had not appeared in my life then. Although Jada Swanson is not perfect, she did have her good points.â
âHer jealousy was strong, but she was determined. She kept trying to pursue me at that time. I rejected her twice, but she kept forcing her way through. After she managed to get closer to me, the other women were afraid of her. Hence, fewer women tried to stick to me.â
âI was lazy too at that time. I just thought to let her be. Which is why I did not deny her claims that we were in a relationship.â
âIn reality, there was nothing between us. The most we have done together was her accompanying me to drinking sessions. We had no physical contact nor mutual affection whatsoever.â
After Lucy Katz heard his explanation, she still did not fully trust him.
After all, it was not her first day knowing Joel Foster.
He was known to change women as often as he changed clothes. Even if she did not ask around about his background, numerous news would have reached her ears.
Yet, he claimed that he had nothing to do with Jada Swanson at all?
She furrowed her brows and asked suspiciously, âIs this really what happened?â
âAs real as pure gold, if not more!â
Joel Foster held his palm up high and said, âIf you still do not believe me, I will swear to God!â
Lucy Katz had a taboo against swearing. She quickly put his hand down after he said that.
She then pursed her lips and hesitantly replied, âIf itâs real then itâs real. Why do you need to swear? I donât believe in these things.â
Joel Foster laughed at this sight.
He clasped his hands onto hers. This time, Lucy Katz did not avoid him.
Joel Foster said to her in a serious but gentle manner, âItâs not just her. Out of the ten pieces of news that you hear outside, nine of them are not real.
Itâs my fault though. I was too lazy to deal with this gossip. I felt that it was too troublesome and took a laissez-faire attitude.â
âDonât you worry, I did not have anyone special in those times, so I did not care to explain. Itâs different now. Now that I have you, I will not let these things happen ever again. I will not make you feel unsettled toward these situations. Do you believe me?â
Lucy Katz turned to look at him. His words were heartfelt, his eyes sincere.
Her heart was finally moved.
She understood him. He looked like he was a cynical person on the surface, but he had a pure genuine heart.
She bobbed her head. âFine, Iâll believe you.â
Joel Foster became happy at her words.
