Chapter 652

Spoiled by the President

It was a feeling as though a dream reflected in reality.

Hence, even though Natalie was cold towards this matter, the maids at home were secretly happy and surrounded the place with an air of celebration.

For example, one of them went to great lengths to redecorate the place with new flowers, and they cleaned the house extra well.

Another example was the great feast prepared tonight and it was not just because of Xavier’s instruction.

The lady chef thoughtfully added her secret sauce in the dishes, adding better favors compared to before.

Of course, Natalie was ignorant to all of this.

Lucy had a hunch.

This was because a young girl bashfully came and asked for her autograph when she was taken by Joel to have a stroll in the back garden.

This young girl was a maid of the household. Her love for cleanliness and nimbleness with hands were reasons Natalie kept her by her side.

The girl was in charge of light duties such as straightening out Natalie’s room and wardrobe daily.

Lucy stared at her and signed with delight.

After she was done with the signature, she asked, “Don’t you hate me?”

Taken aback, the young girl quickly shook her head.

“We don’t hate you. We really like you. I’ve seen every television drama you’re in. You’re so beautiful and celestial-like in the dramas.”

Lucy could not help but chuckle.

“You’re saying as though I’m not beautiful in real life.”

Afraid that Lucy might misunderstand, the young girl shook her head.

“No, you’re more beautiful than on TV. Really.”

As though not convincing enough, the young girl heavily nodded her head.

Lucy was only making a passing comment to poke fun at her and did not think she would take it so seriously. Hence, she burst out laughing.

“Alright now, I was only teasing you. Thank you for liking me.”

Reassured, the young girl held her signed photograph and happily went on her way.

Joel who was watching beside was filled with jealousy.

“Tsk tsk, these girls only had eyes for me before your presence. Now that you’re here, they only have eyes for you. You sure have a bigger charm than I do.”

Raising a brow, Lucy softly scoffed. “Like duh. Otherwise, why would a playboy like you be taken down by me?”

Joel lightly laughed. “Yes, yes, yes. My wife is the best. No one can resist your charm.”

The duo were fooling around as Wendy approached them.

“Cousins.”

Lucy and Joel both turned around and saw Wendy obediently standing behind them.

Harking back to the remark she said to Joel in a joke, Lucy turned red in the face. She was embarrassed.

“You’re Wendy, right? Why are you here?”

With an awkward smile, she uneasily combed through her hair.

Pursing her lips into a smile, Wendy gazed at her. “I heard that you guys were taking a stroll in the back garden so I came over for a look.

After a pause, she suddenly turned to Lucy and said, “Cousin, I like your acting. Can you take a picture with me and sign an autograph for me?”

Lucy was dumbstruck.

It never crossed her mind that it would turn out this way.

She exchanged glances with Joel, caught in a moment of contrasting emotions.

Lucy immediately complied. “Sure.”

Wendy enthusiastically forked out her phone and asked Joel to help take a photo of them.

She fished out a pile of retouched photos from her pocket with due care and asked for Lucy’s autograph.

Staring at the pile of photos, Lucy’s contrasting emotions grew stronger.

Yet at the same time, her heart was filled with warmth.

As she was busy signing, Wendy whispered in Lucy’s ear. “Cousin, many of my classmates are your fans. Can you help me sign a few more?”

Lucy was not going to say no.

After Lucy was finished, Wendy happily held the pile of autographs in hand and threw a remark. “I shouldn’t bother you in your stroll now.”

Lucy nodded with a smile. Wendy paused a bit before speaking in muted tones. “Cousin, don’t take what Aunt says to heart. She doesn't know but we all really like you. We refuse to believe that you’re the kind of person that is said online.”

She was dumbfounded, surprised that Wendy mentioned this out of the blue.

She was touched beyond words.

However, there was also a complicated emotion buried within.

She solemnly nodded and replied, “Yes, I know. Thank you.”

Casting Lucy a beaming smile, Wendy waved her hand and left.

Once she was gone, Joel advanced forth and reached out to bring her into his arms.

His eyes darkened at the sight of the woman’s reddened eyes.

“Touched?”

Lucy wiped the corners of her eyes and let out an embarrassed grin. “Who’s touched? I just got sand in my eyes.”

Joel remained quiet for a while before murmuring. “Lulu, you’re worth everyone’s adoration. There’s no need to be in doubt and flustered.”

Lucy was shocked.

He was too smart!

Joel was able to catch on to the slight change of expression on her face, detecting the hesitation in her that came from the sudden show of kindness around.

Perhaps, he knew her too well.

Without saying or doing anything, he had already guessed what she was thinking about.

The air fell silent the entire time as the pair gently embraced each other without a word.

It was unknown how long time had passed when suddenly, a soft cough was heard from the side.

The duo lifted their chins and saw Xavier standing not far away. He was smiling at them.

Lucy immediately turned blush red.

“Uncle Foster.”

Letting go of Joel this instant, she shouted with a downcast face.

Xavier answered in delight, “There’s no need to be embarrassed. We’ve once been through that so we can understand.”

However, Lucy became even more self-conscious at the mention.

Joel helplessly shot a look at his father before locking Lucy in his arm and going over.

“Dad, what’s up?”

Xavier replied with a smile, “What else? It’s time to eat. We waited a while but didn’t see you so I came over to find you.”

He then threw a glance at Lucy.

Xavier was a man who lived through the rise and fall of the business world for decades. Just one glance was enough for him to observe the tears by the corner of Lucy’s eyes that had not been wiped dry in time.

Although sighing to himself, Xavier only displayed a smile on his face. “Miss Katz, I might not have seen the shows that you’ve acted in, but I have heard of you. I wish to tell you to live from your heart in this world and don’t dwell on whatever that doesn't matter. Don’t worry about what other people say about you.”

Dumbstruck, Lucy lifted her head and met his eyes in a daze.

Smiling rather lovingly, Xavier resembled her father before his death.
