Chapter 673
Spoiled by the President
That night, when Xavier reached home, his keen senses immediately picked up that Natalie was not in a good mood.
Her face was extremely sour as if something disastrous had struck.
Now that both of their sons no longer lived at home, Xavier was the only other person in the house.
If something made her angry, it must be his fault. After all, Natalie would not get so worked up due to a servantâs mistake. From that aspect, she was quite tolerant.
If one of the servants committed a mistake, she would just scold them for a bit, or mete out punishment in the worst-case scenario. She would not pull a sullen face because of it.
Thinking along these lines, Xavier could not help but frown. As he changed his shoes at the doorway, he mentally recalled every single thing he had done that day.
However, no matter how hard he thought about it, he had left for work early in the morning, and stayed at the office all day. He did not call her, much less see her. Logically speaking, there was no chance for him to offend her.
He thought more carefully. Today was not their wedding anniversary or anyoneâs birthday. It also was not a special occasion. He did not call her or send her gifts, and he did not come home late.
In short, it should not be his fault.
Nevertheless, why was she so angry?
Xavier was not a whipped husband, but because of an incident that occurred a long time ago, he always felt a tinge of guilt towards Natalie.
Therefore, most of the time, he did not want to be too critical with her.
As long as Natalie was happy, he would simply turn a blind eye.
However, as days turned into months and months turned into years, Xavier became unwittingly seen as a chairman who was very powerful at work but afraid of his wife at home. These rumors caused him to feel speechless, but he never bothered arguing otherwise.
Even if he was seen as being afraid of his wife, so be it. The good thing was that he no longer had to worry about people trying to flirt with him. Life was more peaceful this way.
With that in mind, he changed into his indoor slippers and walked in.
âHey, whatâs the matter? Who lit the dynamite in our house today? Why are you so angry?â he joked humorously as he took off his coat.
He was trying hard to diffuse the awkward and tense atmosphere. However, none of the busy servants dared to breathe a sound.
Even Natalie, who was sitting on the sofa, merely raised her head to glance at him once. She looked like she could not be bothered to talk to him.
Xavier was bewildered because he felt like he was being given the cold shoulder. He was lost, but with Natalie ignoring him, there was nothing he could do, so he walked towards the dining room and asked, âIs dinner ready?â
A servant replied politely, âSir, itâs ready.â
âIn that case, itâs almost time. Letâs eat.â
The servant bowed respectfully and headed towards the kitchen.
Subsequently, Xavier turned around and saw Natalie still sitting on the sofa with a sullen expression. After some thought, he walked back and pulled on her elbow. âHey, letâs eat.â
However, as soon as his hand touched Natalieâs arm, she shoved him away.
âDonât touch me!â Xavier was taken aback.
Earlier, he had only suspected that he was the one who had made her angry, but now with her blatant rejection, he was certainly the culprit.
He could not help but feel annoyed. Frowning, he asked, âWhatâs wrong with you today? I didnât provoke you in any way, so why are you angry at me?â
Truthfully speaking, he felt a little irritated. Over the years, he was the one who always acknowledged his mistakes to Natalie, whereas she always treated him coolly. No matter how patient a person was, after being treated like that for a long period of time, one would feel discouraged.
He sighed but did not have a choice. He said again, âEven if youâre angry, you still need to eat. Plus, I didnât do anything wrong today, so why are you giving me this attitude?â
This time, Natalie finally raised her head to look at him. She stared at him silently for a few seconds, then asked suddenly, âWhere have you been these few days?â
Xavier was perplexed because her question threw him off. Soon, he reacted and answered honestly, âIâve been in the office, and came home straight after work. Why?â
Natalie sneered, âAre you sure youâre not lying to me?â
Xavier was even more baffled. âWhy would I lie to you? Anyway, Derek and the others were with me all the time. Even your eldest son can vouch for me, so why should I lie to you?â
Natalie considered it since he had a point. While Xavier might lie to her, John would not dare to. She could ask John about Xavierâs whereabouts in the past few days.
With that, her mood improved vastly.
Her expression was no longer sullen and her gaze warmed up a little. âAlright, letâs eat!â she said.
Then, she walked to the dining room.
Xavier was left bewildered by Natalieâs hot and cold behavior. He was completely confused by the situation. Nonetheless, since she was at least willing to eat, that meant that she was no longer furious.
Therefore, Xavier did not bother to investigate the cause. He simply followed her into the dining room.
After dinner, Natalie walked to the balcony alone and called John.
John no longer lived at the old residence. After marrying Angel, he lived in his own house elsewhere. Although he had never officially brought Angel back home yet, Natalie was not too concerned.
She knew that both her sons had a mind of their own. In their eyes, she was nothing more than a decoration around the house. They would not listen to what she said.
As she thought about that, her heart felt a little downcast again. Regardless, those were not a matter of importance right now.
In her heart, she never considered putting her sons on a leash their whole lives. After all, they were adults and were supposed to live their own lives.
Neither was she an overbearing mother, nor did she want to be too controlling.
Even if the woman Joel found did not come from the entertainment industry or came from a terrible family, she would not object as much as she did now.
Natalie made the phone call. It did not take long before the call was answered.
âHello, Mum?â Johnâs deep-sounding voice sounded.

John was taken aback. A little startled, he asked, âMum, whatâs wrong?â
âNothing. I just want to ask you, the past few days, has your father been staying in the office? Did he leave midway?â
The other side went silent for a few seconds.
Soon, Johnâs concerned voice spoke up, âMum, are you and Dad fighting again?â
Natalie rolled her eyes. Impatiently, she said, âNo, weâre not fighting. Why are you asking so much? Iâm asking you a question. Why are you turning the question back on me?â
