Chapter 682

Spoiled by the President

Natalie was so mad that the color on her face changed. As if worried about her anger, Emilia explained, “Sister, it’s not what you think. We did meet each other by chance a few days ago. We only know one another for a few days and nobody’s trying to hide anything from you. Trust me.”

Joel did not want to enrage his mother at this point either.

As such, he added, “Yes, we meet so many people every day. How am I supposed to know the identities of those you have an entanglement with? I can’t exactly call you each day and report it to you, can I?”

His tone carried a hint that he felt wronged.

Natalie listened and could not help but laugh sarcastically when she noticed that Joel felt wronged.

“Fine, you keep retorting me anyway and I don’t have the final say. Alright, I’ll just shut up! Do whatever you want to do, I can’t control you. I’m too lazy to care anyway!”

Once she said that, she went aside, took a seat, and began to sulk.

The atmosphere became very awkward.

Joel glanced at Emilia, who shook her head helplessly.

Finally, he had to approach Natalie. He said to her, “Alright, Mom. Even if we’re at fault, I’m still your son. Aren’t you going to believe me?”

Natalie remained silent as she was still vexed.

Joel massaged his aching temples.

At this moment, the light above the doors of the operating theatre went out, signaling that the operation was over.

The people outside the theatre might be quarreling, but they still kept watch on that spot.

As soon as the light went out, everybody grew attentive and they immediately stood up.

A doctor came out very quickly.

“Who are the family members?”

Joel and Natalie approached the doctor.

“Me!”

“Me.”

The doctor looked at them. Since this was a public hospital, the patient had been rushed here and the doctor did not pay attention to who he was.

Thus, the hospital employees had no idea who these two individuals were. They had just completed the operation and could not be bothered to know the patient’s identity.

He said, “The operation is a success and the patient is out of danger. However, there are several fractures in his legs and ribs. You must be careful and don’t let him move around recklessly. Just let him rest for half a year.”

The people listened and as if they had let out a breath, they felt extremely relieved.

“Thank you, doctor.”

“Thank you, doctor.”

The doctor waved an arm and spoke, “He hasn’t woken up yet but you can visit him in his ward in a while. The nurse will inform you later.”

They listened and quickly nodded.

Not long after, a nurse pushed a bed out of the theatre.

Xavier was still unconscious and his face was still pale. Seeing that, Joel and Natalie suddenly felt their heart clench.

Emilia, who was standing behind them, froze when she saw the man on the bed.

That man used to play a huge part in her youth.

She loved and admired him, as well as regarded him as her life’s greatest goal.

Therefore, back then, she did not care about anyone or anything else except for him.

However, in reality, she thought that he was a bachelor at that time.

She had no idea that he was already dating her sister.

Had she known about it...

She was certain that things would have been very different.

Emilia had a vague recollection of that wild night. Did they do it?

Only when she awoke the next morning did she realize that she was lying on her sister’s wedding bed.

As for him, he just stared at her in fright as if she was a complete stranger.

She was wrong! She should never have fallen in love with him.

Moreover, she should not have let her emotions consume her and got drunk that night, knowing full well that he was going to marry her sister. As a result, she allowed alcohol to control her into doing such a shameless thing that harmed others and herself.

Not only did that incident harm Natalie and Xavier, but it had hurt herself too.

All these years, she lived overseas, reflecting on her past actions every day.

Every time she thought about that particular night, she felt as if a million bugs were chewing on her flesh and it made her heart ache so much that she could die.

Today, after twenty-six years, this man reappeared before her.

Surprisingly, Emilia realized that she no longer harbored the same passion she once felt for him.

Unlike the past where she was irrevocably attracted to him like a moth to a flame, she merely felt an empty sense of amusement now.

Emilia stood still as various thoughts raced across her mind.

Though the rest of the people failed to realize the changes in her emotions.

Everyone was glad that Xavier came out safe and sound.

Right now, they followed the direction of the hospital bed and headed towards the ward.

The bed was brought to an expensive VIP ward.

Earlier, the hospital employees were unaware of Xavier’s identity, but they later got wind of it while checking him into the hospital.

Once they learned that he was the Chairman of the Foster Consortium, they naturally did not dare to ignore it.

Soon, the family members reached the ward.

With Xavier lying on the bed, Joel and Natalie decided to stay with him.

As Xavier had already regained consciousness, Emilia thought that there was no reason for her to remain here.

Furthermore, she already had a long conversation with Natalie at the café this morning and had said her piece.

They would have to decipher the rest of the message on their own.

Such was the way things worked between humans. Sometimes, one did not have to over-explain herself.

She only had to convey a certain message, and the rest was up to fate.

If they still refused to trust her and give her another chance, there was nothing she could do.

As she contemplated, Emilia beckoned to Joel.

“Little Joel, I feel better now that your father is awake, so I shall excuse myself.”

Despite Joel’s ignorance towards what transpired between Emilia and his mother, he understood that his mother did not appreciate Emilia’s presence here.

Therefore, he nodded when Emilia spoke to him.

“Alright, do you need someone to drive you home?”

Emilia shook her head.

“It’s fine, I drove here.”

With that, Joel did not press her any further.

After she left, Joel returned to the ward to give his father a good look. He let out a sigh.

“Dad’s fine now. Have you informed Brother?”

Natalie stiffened and realized she had forgotten to contact him.

Thus, she told Joel to call John and update the latter on their father’s recovery.

His father was alright, and all was well at the company too. Since the former was out of danger, there was no urgent need to see him right away. As such, John made an appointment with Joel to come over to the hospital after work.
