Chapter 685
Spoiled by the President
âBut she still hasnât said that she has forgiven me! Big Brother Nolan, it was my fault. I was blinded by my own selfishness and hurt her badly.
âIâve always assumed that the reason for wanting to return in the last few months was to explain myself to her and to avoid any regrets. And I also wanted to see Brother Xavier again.
âBut now, I realize that I have been wrong, so, so wrong. I donât care how Brother Xavier is at all and I donât care whether I have explained myself properly.
âWhat I care about is whether she still recognizes me as her younger sister; whether she cares for me; whether she can forgive me! Do you understand, Big Brother Nolan?
âI tried to be calm and detached as if I donât care, but in reality, Iâm the only one who knows that I care, I really do!
âI care about the fact she hates me. I care about how she personally gave me another chance in life twenty-six years ago, even though she hated me so much.
âMost of all, I care about whether Iâll be able to seek her forgiveness in this joke of a life.
âItâs only in the face of death that one understands what matters most. I beg you, Big Brother Nolan. Please take me to her once more, alright?â
Spencer looked at her sternly.
Emiliaâs words sounded sincere and touching.
Yet, when he listened to her, her words were like sharp needles that pierced his heart mercilessly.
He bent down and grabbed both armrests of the chair she was sitting on. Then, he stared at her intently.
âYou said that itâs only in the face of death that one understands what matters most. To you, no matter what happens, the most important person is your sister who isnât even related to you.
âEven in the face of death, you still think of her and miss her. You pine for her forgiveness and willingness to accept you again! And what about me?
Who am I to you?â
Spencer laughed sardonically as he placed a hand on his chest. Despite the wide grin on his face, his eyes were filled with tears.
âTouch my heart! Itâs full of you. Twenty-six years, Emmy. Iâve been by your side for twenty-six years, and how do you treat me?
âDo you really believe that the love between you and your sister is the only true love, but the love shown to you by a bystander is so insignificant that he spends twenty-six years in exchange for an unimportant role? Is this true?â
Emilia was shocked.
She sat still and regarded the disheveled man in front of her who was on the verge of losing his mind. She behaved as if it was her first time coming across this question.
âBig Brother Nolan, I...â
âEnough!â
The man interrupted her at once, refusing to listen to her.
He stood up and cast her a disappointed look. He shook his head and backed away.
âNow, Iâve finally understood that Iâve been so foolish! Iâve always believed that peopleâs hearts could be changed, whether it takes a day, a year, or even a decade. No matter how icy that person is, Iâm sure her heart will be softened after twenty years.
âBut I was wrong. Some hearts can never be softened. She can see everyone in this world, but sheâll never notice the one closest to her.
âEmilia, is it true that you have never loved me? Despite the years weâve spent together, you have never cared for me, havenât you?â
âI...â
Emilia wanted to answer him but she was cut off again.
âHmph! Never mind, itâs no longer important. After all, Iâm the biggest fool in this game! Yes, I am!â
After that, he turned around and strode away.
Emilia watched his silhouette as he left. A moment passed before she regained her composure and she curled up her fingers tightly.
âBig Brother Nolan, youâre wrong.â
âYouâre so wrong.â
âYouâve always been important to me!â
âYouâre just like my closest relative. If I have to die for you one day, Iâll do it without hesitation.â
âBut love... Iâm sorry, I really canât do it.â
âThere are so many things happening in this world, but love is the hardest and the only thing that canât be forced.â
...
At night, Emilia eventually met Natalie at the hospital.
Xavier had to remain at the hospital. In spite of the excellent doctors and nurses and the large number of bodyguards watching over him, Natalie was still worried.
Thus, she had been staying at the hospital to accompany Xavier.
Of course, as the Mother Superior of St. Petersburg Hospitalâs boss, Natalie received special treatment. Unlike others, she would not have to sleep on a military cot that was brought into the ward.
Natalie would not listen to Joel, so he had to reserve a private room right next to Xavierâs ward for her.
By doing so, she could stay here comfortably and it was also convenient for her to take care of her husband, thus killing two birds with one stone.
When Emilia found her, Natalie was making soup in the mini kitchen of her own room.
The beef bone soup contained a lot of healthy ingredients. She wanted to nourish Xavierâs body and let him restore his energy that was lost from the accident.
By the time the bodyguard let Emilia upstairs, Natalie was filling a small bowl with soup.
She threw a glance at Emilia and asked, âWhat are you doing here?â
Emilia eyed her in an uncertain manner. There were so many things that she wanted to convey, but it was hard to do so.
âSister, I...â
She was hesitant and her hands trembled slightly. Natalie paused in her movement.
Natalie gave it a thought before she handed the bowl of soup to the bodyguard and ordered, âTake this to my husband and keep watch outside.â
âYes.â
The bodyguard agreed and left with the soup.
Once the door was shut quietly, Natalie gave Emilia a proper look and asked, âTell me, why are you here? Just speak your mind, less you have to make another trip here.â
She was leaning against the glazed countertop which she had just used to prepare food. She was not keen on inviting Emilia to sit down in the living room.
Feeling embarrassed, Emilia lowered her head and bit her lip.
Yet, she had been keeping her frustrations to herself for a very long time. She feared that she would go insane.
Hence, after a momentâs silence, she lifted her head again and fixed an alert gaze on Natalie. She said, âSister, I donât have much time left.â
Natalie raised her eyebrows.
There was a jeering look on her face.
âWhat does it have to do with me whether you live or die? You should be minding your own business if you donât have much time left, instead of coming here frequently... Are you trying to gain something from me?â
Her heartless remark was like a stab through Emiliaâs heart.
It was a rude awakening to Emilia as the color slowly faded from her face.
She looked at Natalie and whimpered, âSis, Iâm not trying to gain anything from you. I just...â
âIf you arenât trying to gain anything, leave! I donât want to see you again.â
Natalie interrupted her. Then, she turned around and headed for the door.
Emilia panicked.
She wanted to reach out and grab her arm but dared not do so.
