Chapter 72
Spoiled by the President
The man in darkness swept him a cold glance.
Keeping a tight lid, the latter stared at him with wide eyes.
The finger the person had been pointing at the man quivered before it was swiftly lowered.
âSenior Jackman.â
In a veiled corner, he compliantly lowered his head to the man as salutation.
Liam coldly curled his lips, his eyes filled with a shuddering intensity.
His fine thin lips opened, spurting cold and brusque words. âF*ck off!â
The person was about to leave when he was suddenly called back.
âWait!â
With a bitter look on his face, the person looked backed in fear.
âSenior Jackman, I really didnât mean to bump into you. I would have turned the other way if I knew you were here...â
Liam impatiently cut him off and turned his head to gaze to the stage, eyes darkening.
âQuit it, Iâm not talking about this. No one must know that youâve seen me here tonight, is it understood?â
The person was dumbstruck, unable to wrap his head around the instruction, but still heeded to the warning.
Liam waved his arm, allowing the person to leave.
Although it had been five years since Liam graduated from Azure High, the legend he left behind still lingered within the four walls of the school.
The reason was simple. During his school years, Liam built himself quite a bad reputation through his ruthless application of violence.
In other words, he was a school bully, the kind that only existed once a decade.
With the fights he got into outnumbering the exams he partook in and having beaten the living daylights out of his enemies, he was every student and teacherâs nightmare.
Five years down the line and this nightmare was still a force to be reckoned with.
Basically everyone would turn the other way at the sight of him. In the past few years, no one dared to approach him apart from Janet.
It was a pity.
She may be willing but he was not.
Although blessed to be born in a prominent family, Young Lady Hancock must be out of her mind to take a fancy to a boy with nothing but his looks.
Despite her best efforts, Janet was brushed aside. That boy really did not know what was good for him, downright refusing her advances.
Many boys who secretly admired Janet were indignant for her sake.
It was a shame that Janet never looked twice towards them, preventing them from being in a position to voice their opinion.
Janetâs performance finally came to an end on stage.
She got up to bow to the audience before making her way backstage.
As applause took over the auditorium, Liam, looming in the shadows, glanced towards the direction the woman departed. With his dark eyes clouding up, he turned to walk out.
Next up was Celine.
The goddess of numerous otakus, Celine might not amount to Janet in terms of beauty but her innocent girl-next-door persona did stir quite the hype.
A piano piece won her favor and a round of applause.
There were also crazed male fans who went upstage presenting bouquets of flowers. They were hot with emotions.
Maintaining a shy character, Celine stood on the stage and delivered generic words of praise that painted the school, teachers, and students in good light.
Everyone had an appetite for compliments, even the headmaster and teachers.
An appreciative smile lit up on their faces.
Nell had no interest in watching her performance. After sending Janet a message and learning that she was backstage, Nell turned to leave.
Janet was having a change of clothes backstage.
She wore traditional Chinese apparel during her performance on stage and was changing into a gown for the ball.
Nell waited for her by the door and after the change of wardrobe, they advanced to the nearby hotel hand in hand.
There were two segments to the school celebration. The performances and red carpet were one of them, lasting only half an hour.
The five-star hotel beside the school was the next location following the end of the first segment. With the hotel closed off to the public for the night, those who could not care less for the performances could gather there. Although it was still early, the place was already lively with a crowd.
Nell and Janet retrieved keycards for their rooms from the reception. They proceeded to their respective rooms before heading to the ballroom.
The sumptuously furnished ballroom was already graced by a gorgeously dressed crowd, stirring a bustling scene.
The majority of big names that were unaffiliated to Azure High, had long gathered here, exchanging toasts under the dazzling chandelier. It was quite a bustling sight.
The duoâs arrival caught the eyes of many.
Janet herself was a show stopper but the woman beside her was simply breathtaking.
Who was that woman? What a doll!
She was in a class of her own despite standing next to Janet, who was famed to be top head-turner in the entertainment business.
Janet was the classic beauty while Nellâs blue gown highlighted an unsullied and aloof character, giving her a poised appeal.
A handful of her acquaintances were also charmed by her presence.
Nell Jennings? Her?
Nell usually dressed in professional attire from head to toe and like her outfit, she was the embodiment of capability, swiftness, and resolution.
Although she was good-looking, her cutthroat means of conduct overshadowed her looks.
Off the top of their heads, most people would express admiration towards her ability while her appearance played second fiddle.
Today, they all saw a new side to her.
Nellâs eyes scoured the room before fixating on a gray-haired man within reach.
Janet whispered, âThatâs Director Eric Freeman. Heâs an eccentric character and at times, shows no consideration for the feelings of others. You best be careful dealing with him.â
Nell nodded.
âGot it.â
Janet glanced around the room and murmured, âI see a friendly face over on that side. Iâm popping over to say hello so I wonât be joining you.â
âSure.â
After Janet excused herself, Nell secretly took a deep breath in before walking towards Eric with a glass in hand.
âDirector Freeman.â
Eric Freeman was a well-known comedy director within the entertainment circle. Despite his work in light entertainment, he was a serious, eccentric, and low-key person in private. He rarely engaged in social activities.
Owing to his identity as an alumni of Azure High and having a good relationship with the present headmaster, he attended the event today.
He turned to the source of sound.
The sight of Nell did catch him off guard.
âHello, Director Freeman. Iâm Nell Jennings, the current person-in-charge of Xinghui.â
Nell handed over her name card with utmost respect. Eric accepted it and took a quick glance with a rather distant bearing.
âXinghui? I heard the company was bought out. So it was you. Anything?â
Social engagement was primary on such an occasion. It was no place for business talk.
Eric could not be bothered with the whole exchange of pleasantries.
He probably would not have attended this ball if the headmaster had not pleaded for him to come.
In spite of the mild rejection, Nell remained unfazed and smiled. âI know youâre not a fan of socializing. Iâm here on business.â

Measuring her up, he asked, âWhat can I do for you?â
âI heard that you are looking for a female lead for your upcoming film so Iâm wondering if you have any candidates in mind?â
