Chapter 73

Spoiled by the President

The new project in Eric’s hand had started work over a month ago. This was the latest news Nell received a short while back.

As an A-list director of the highest prestige and guaranteed box office hits, the roles in Eric’s films were in great demand.

Not only regular actors, but many A-list actors as well, were vying for a role in the project.

However, Eric was a director of principles. It was never about one’s celebrity status, but rather the compatibility of said actors with the role.

He had a thing for newbies, because compared to veteran actors who had honed distinctive characteristics for themselves, newbies were like clay that could be moulded. It would be easier to shape these newbies into the individualistic characters that he envisioned in his work.

Hence, his title as Newbie Scout.

Eric was one of the reasons why Nell had attended the ball today.

As she was smiling, Eric gazed at her with a frown.

“Why are you asking this for?”

“You should know that now that I have taken over Xinghui, the question was so I can recommend a suitable candidate to you.”

Eric scoffed.

“Does Xinghui even have any capable actors?”

It was no secret that when Xinghui was about to go out of business, actors with even the slightest prospects in future had jumped ship to another company. Who would stay behind anyway?

Nevertheless, Nell maintained a grin on her face.

“All the roles in your new film, “Chasing Wind’, have been filled except for the supporting female role, Amelia Wilde. I can understand you’re one to pursue perfection in art and would never give in even at the cost of delaying the shoot.

“I have an actress under me that fits the role. I can bring her in for a screen test if you’re willing to provide the opportunity. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.”

Nell’s words came off aggrandizing to others.

As the people around began to murmur in discussion, Eric merely frowned and stared blankly at her without a word.

“Who does she think she is? Does she think that an important role like this will be given to her just like that?”

“Uh huh. How dare a shabby company like Xinghui ask for a role from Director Freeman? I mean, look at her!”

“Celine Jennings wasn’t even able to grab the role. Even if she has an artiste under her, she must be a newbie, right? What makes her think that she’ll be picked?”

“Shhh! Director Freeman loves giving opportunities to newbies...”

That statement quickly piped down the noises.

Eric sized up the woman before him. The aloof and calm nature amid her absolute presence communicated to him a sense of blind trust.

He had nothing to lose with an audition.

With that, he nodded and was about to give his word.

It was then that giggles burst out from the door.

“Celine, you were wonderful tonight. No one compares to you! Did you see how those boys were looking at you? They were just like a pack of wolves.”

“Well, it is the charm of our Celine. With her looks and talent, of course everybody loves her!”

“It’s a shame that our Celine is taken. No matter how much they love her, they won’t dare step a foot closer!”

“Haha, careful, Young Master Morton will hit you if he hears this.”

“A gentleman like Young Master Morton wouldn’t!”

“...”

“Alright now, quit the nonsense. Everybody was great tonight. I’ve dabbled with the arts longer, so it’s nothing.”

“Oh Celine, you’re too modest.”

Perhaps due to their close proximity to the door, people on this side gave an ear despite the reduced volume.

At a glance, Celine was seen leading a group of people walking in.

With Celine in the middle, the group including Mia and Lily hovered around her. The white gown on Celine accented her grace and fragility, like a princess in need of protection.

Her eyes read joy at the appearance of Eric who was standing within reach. She lifted her skirt to take quick paces over.

“Director Freeman, I see you’re here as well.”

Eric faintly nodded.

The eyes of the group tailing Mia and Lily lit up at the sight of Eric. Each one of them began to force their way up to pay formalities.

“Hello, Director Freeman. I’m Mia Bell. I’ve seen your films and love them all.”

“Director Freeman, I’m Kelly Youngs. I’m a fan of yours too!”

“Director Freeman, my name’s Marge Lewis. We met at an event the last time. Do you remember me?”

The group of women flocked in, quickly fencing in Eric.

They scrambled to introduce themselves, hoping to leave an impression on him. This way, Eric might recall them should there be a suitable role available one day.

Nevertheless, Eric was not fond of the hustle and bustle. He was only willing to attend today for the headmaster’s sake. How could he possibly stand being besieged by a pack of women?

A furrow formed between his brows.

Considering the occasion, he was in a difficult position to turn on his heels and stride out.

Nell smiled and said, “Director Freeman, didn’t you say you had a matter to attend to? We shouldn’t be bothering you. Please go ahead.”

Eric took a glance at her. His eyes spoke of abstruseness.

A brief moment later, he nodded and took his leave.

After taking two steps, he paused before turning to her. “Contact my assistant tomorrow, he’ll inform you of the time.”

Nell’s eyes lit up.

She smiled and nodded. “Okay, thank you, Director Freeman.”

Eric walked out.

Mia and the group were fuming.

“Nell Jennings! What’s the meaning of this? You did it on purpose, didn’t you? You sent Director Freeman away the moment we walked through the door! Are you that afraid of letting us chat a little longer?”

Folding her arms, Nell faintly replied, “Who am I to send Director Freeman away? You think too highly of me.”

Mia choked but unwilling to back down, she retorted, “Weren’t you the one reminding Director Freeman to leave?”

“Yes! Don’t think for a second that we’re blind. You’re afraid that he might find us to his liking and you just can’t take it!”

“Right! What a calculative person!”

Nell grinned. She did not take any of their angry allegations to heart.

Her gaze was on Celine, sliding up and down.

“You think so too?”

Celine let out a smile.

“Director Freeman dislikes commotions so it was distasteful for them to be so out of bounds. I have to thank you for controlling the situation.”

Nell curled her lips in a scoff.

“I wonder why Director Freeman had you contact his assistant tomorrow?”

Nell raised a brow. There was a hint of relish in her eyes.

“What do you think?”

Celine secretly coiled her fingers.

She forced a smile. “Don’t tell me it’s for the role of Amelia Wilde in “Chasing Wind’!”
