Chapter 75

Spoiled by the President

The surrounding was lost in the clamor of an uproar.

With everyone pointing the finger at Nell, the looks that fell on her no longer bore the former fascination and admiration.

Their eyes were instead, all filled with disdain and contempt!

Nell kept a straight face. The condemnation around did not stir a single surge of emotions in her still eyes. In fact, her eyes remained serene as though nothing had happened.

Glancing at Nell’s reaction, Celine secretly smirked to herself.

“Go on, play dumb! Pretend all you want!

“I’ll see how much longer you’ll keep up with the act!’

Celine paused and was about to say something.

However, before words left her lips, Jason’s furious voice ensued.

“Enough! Are you here for the ball or here to gossip? Look at you people, gathering around the door. Disperse!”

They were not having it. Who would want to leave with a show unfolding?

Someone spoke up, “Young Master Morton, your fiancée is the victim here. As the boyfriend, it’s fine if you don’t side with your girlfriend, but to cast your lot with the perpetrator?”

Jason’s back stiffened.

Celine froze as well.

With a silent fear and unwillingness creeping inside her, she turned to throw a glance at Jason. She saw a fluster fleeting past his eyes.

Taking her by the hand, Jason whispered an excuse, “Celine, you know I don’t mean that.”

Celine clenched her fist.

There was something brewing within her, channeling deep resentment.

Nevertheless, she lifted a smile on the surface as she softly replied, “I know. Brother Jay, you just don’t want to see my relationship with my sister going sour. It’s all for my own good. I get it.”

Jason dared not look her in the eye.

He nodded. “It’s good that you understand.”

Standing at the side, Em was still unwilling to back down.

She continued to stir trouble. “Young Master Morton, even if you’re not making inquiries into the incident five years ago, are you going to sit by and watch her steal every role of Celine’s?”

Jason frowned.

Celine let out a gentle smile.

“Sister, you might not know the importance of this film to me. I did my homework for a complete month just to land on this role. How about this? I know you’re trying to boost the popularity of the artiste under you. Why don’t you let me have this role and I’ll have Brother Jay invest in another film in the name of Fenghua in exchange for a female lead role for her? What are your thoughts?”

The crowd burst into an uproar.

“This Celine Jennings is way too kind! Despite her sister’s doings, she’s still helping her sister fight for a role!”

“I know, right? I’ve seen many pushovers in my life, but I’ve never seen it this extreme!”

“Sigh, she’s too soft. Fortunately, Young Master Morton’s there to protect her, or else god knows how much of a fool the sister’s going to take her for.”

“A supporting role for a leading role? Tsk tsk, that’s a great deal! She’ll be pushing her luck if she doesn’t agree to it!”

Listening to the criticism all around, Nell slowly curled her lips.

She gazed at Celine. Her eyes revealed cynicism.

“Are you done acting?”

Celine was taken aback.

She forced a smile. “Sister, what do you mean?”

“Tsk! Are you tired of being an actress and planning to switch careers into delivering monologues?”

“Nell Jennings! Don’t you take it too far!”

Em stood out.

With Nell’s face turning harsh, she darted a sharp look and barked, “Does it concern you whether or not I take things too far? Who are you to give orders to me?”

Intimidated by Nell’s chilling presence, Em’s mind went blank for two seconds.

It took her awhile to come to and by then, her face was painted in a darker shade. She was in disbelief that she felt threatened.

Annoyed, she furiously chided, “Sure, I’m better off than you despite having no right in this! Also, I’m Celine’s best friend. So what if I come forward for Celine’s sake?”

Nell coldly smirked.

“I see you aren’t constant with the switch of career into delivering monologues. What? Are you trying to demote yourself to an internet celebrity instead?”

Everybody was in a daze, unable to snap out of it.

Celine glowered.

“What’s the meaning of this?”

“Ha! Was I wrong? I always thought that you might be a little mean and petty but you’d still have class. I didn’t think that you’d befriend any Tom, Dick, or Harry. Why would you be friends with a shameless third-rate internet celebrity if you didn’t want to become an internet sensation yourself?”

The crowd on scene widened their eyes in shock.

What? Third-rate internet celebrity?

Who?

Em was thrown into panic.

“Ab-absolute nonsense! Who are you calling a third-rate internet celebrity?”

“You, of course!”

Snickering out of mockery, Nell shook her head. “Look at you two, singing the same tune. People might think that you’re acting a scene in the Chinese opera! It’s a pity though, a prick-teaser like you can’t even play the part well. You were too eager to pin me down with a label that it backfired!”

Em’s complexion washed white.

“What are you going on about? I don’t understand a word you’re saying!”

Nell let out a scoff.

“Do you think that a change of clothes and a painted face can mask a girl dwelling in the outer edges of the D list to a socialite? You must be the one with the username, Little Cloud In The Sky! You play skittish, working on loopholes online for attention. Last month, you cheated a huge gift, which is now confiscated, out from a netizen. Did you think no one will recognize you offline?”

By now, everyone had come round with the revelation.

They took another look at the girl named Em and realized she looked familiar!

An internet live-streamer like them was different from the rest. Since they were without talent, they resorted to pushing the envelope to gain attention.

Hence, their make-up and dress-up were testing the limits during a broadcast.

With an additional filter effect, it made a world of difference from the actual person in real life.

What was the saying again? Goddess online and a matron offline.

Although Em did not hit it big, her ordinary looks were comparable to an average joe, putting her in the same class as a matron.

The reminder saw many quickly putting a name to the face.

Despite how well one was in disguise, the body frame and eyes remained the same.

Everyone gasped in astonishment, especially the young men who were into Lolita-goddess fantasies.

“Oh my god! She’s Little Cloud In The Sky? Why is she so ugly in real life?

“Jesus! I even donated a gift worth tens of thousands to her! I might as well visit a prostitute if I’ve known! At least prostitutes are prettier than her!”

“Brother, you’re not alone. If I could, I wish I could recover all the gifts I’ve donated!”

“I can overlook the gifts! I’ll thank the gods if she just stays out of my sight!”

“...”
