Chapter 727
Spoiled by the President
âWhat?â
Nancy Murray was so shocked that she sat up on the bed.
Nell Jennings tried again and pushed a little harder, only to find that the door really would not budge. It was not just an illusion.
Only then did she turn around with a gloomy face and walked back.
"The situationâs not great. I suspect that they've already realized that our identities are not as simple as we said before."
Nancy had also panicked a bit and asked, "Then what should we do?"
Nell pursed her lips and was silent.
"There's no rush yet. Let's see what theyâre up to first. If it's really bad...â
If the situation was dire, they could only rush headfirst into it.
Anyways, no matter what, Nell and Nancy absolutely could not be separated in such a situation.
As she thought of this, Nell pulled out the paper that was previously hidden in the corner with a map of the surroundings drawn on it. She took a closer look at it and pocketed the paper.
She said in a low voice, "We won't be able to get out tonight. We'll just see what happens tomorrow. Remember, tomorrow morning when we wake up, letâs pretend we didn't know that they locked the door tonight. As usual, if the situation doesn't look right, we'll just knock the two of them unconscious, tie them up, and then escape."
Nancy was worried and said, "But didn't you say not to before? Everyone around here will help them chase us down."
Nell sighed.
"That was before, but now it's different and there's nothing we can do about it,â Nell said this and packed a few necessities that they would need.
As she was packing, she said, "Previously, I thought we could stall as long as we could for you to recover, but now it looks like they've realized who we are."
"If they're afraid of getting into trouble, they'll be in a hurry to get rid of us, which makes it more dangerous for us. We must make preparations as soon as possible to avoid something like that."
Nancy listened and nodded her head heavily.
It was only after Nell finished packing that she heaved a sigh of relief.
She also used something to grind the flowers she had retrieved earlier that day to make a powder. Then, she gave a small packet to Nancy and kept a small packet for herself.
Nell said, "I don't know if this stuffâs useful or not, but even if it doesnât work, we can just use it as a blinding powder."
Nancy nodded and suddenly whipped out a small knife from under her pillow.
Nell was stunned as she looked at the small knife.
"Where did you get this from?"
Nancy replied nonchalantly, "It's always with me."
Nell was dumbstruck.
"Youâve always had a knife on you? Why didn't I know that? I've been sleeping with you for so long."
Nancy smiled at the words and replied, "It's hidden in the most intimate place. Of course you won't find it. This knife is small when itâs folded, but it can be used as a dagger when unfolded. I had it specially ordered in the past, and it's usually placed on the waist of my pants, so the general public won't see it."
Nell nodded.
With a powerful weapon for self-defense on Nancyâs body, the sense of security in Nellâs heart increased by a great deal.
Nell said, "Let's see what we can do tomorrow. Don't be impulsive."
Nancy nodded and replied, "Mm, I know."
After the two of them finished their discussion, they knew that it was pointless for them to worry at that hour. Everything would have to wait until morning.
They laid on the bed and talked for a while longer, then went to sleep together.
Meanwhile, in the room downstairs.
Aunt Karen was sitting on the bed and was mending her clothes by a dim kerosene lamp.
Uncle Fred was smoking dry tobacco while he paced back and forth in the house.
After several laps, Karen could not stand it any longer. She looked up at him and said, "Stop moving! It's making my eyes blurry and I can't see the tip of the needle."
Fred stopped in his stride, looked at her, and asked in a cold voice, "Is there anything unusual about those two girls today?"
As Karen bowed her head and sewed, she replied, "What could be unusual? Theyâre just two city princesses with romantic things on their minds, so what else could be unusual."
Fred snorted coldly.
"Don't be fooled by them. I'm telling you, they're not just some city princesses!"
Karen was slightly stunned by this.
She looked up puzzled.
Fred finished speaking and smoked again while pacing restlessly in the room.
Only after a long while did he continue, "Someone came by the village today, from outside."
Karen paused and was a little surprised.
"Someone came by again? What kind of person?â
"Well, who else could it be?"
Fred sneered and continued, "People who are looking for them."
Karen was shocked.
The sharp end of the needle touched her fingertip and accidentally poked her. She felt a pain in her finger.
She hissed softly, lifted her finger, and put it in her mouth. She sucked the blood away before she asked, "They found them so quickly?"
Fred turned to look at her with an inexplicable look.
"Not only are they fast, but those people are no ordinary people. Do you know what they were carrying?"
Karen had a blank look on her face and asked, "What?"
"Guns!"
"Huh?"
She let out a squeak of fear and turned pale. She then lightly touched her chest.
Fred's face was also glum and the pacing of his feet became even more agitated.
"These two girls didn't tell us the truth for sure. Why would someone come after two ordinary women with a gun? Maybe they're spies or something from the war over at the front lines. We've had a hard time finding a peaceful life, away from the war, cooped up in such a small village every day. We can't let anyone ruin this peace again. We must get rid of them as soon as possible!"
Karen pressed her lips together and lowered her head slightly.
"So how are you going to do it? Didn't you promise Mazisar and the others that youâll sell the girls to them?"
"They can't be sold to them anymore."
Uncle Fred suddenly paused, then said in a low voice, "Weâre all from the same village. If those people discover them here, they'll only bring disaster to the village. We have to find a way to sell them out of town."
Karen frowned.
She looked up at her husband and suggested with courage.
"Then how about...let's set them free! It's a great way to avoid trouble and...â
"Nonsense!"
Before Karen finished speaking, she was interrupted by her husband.
He looked back at her with some annoyance and said, "This perfect opportunity was sent to us, and now youâre telling me to let them go? That's tens of thousands! Enough for us to survive a few years. Who's going to give us such a good life if we let them go?"
