Chapter 76
Spoiled by the President
Countless taunts and sneers came flooding in.
Thrown off-balance, Em was at a loss as she looked back at the crowd. She made a futile attempt to explain herself but just could not find the right words.
She turned to Celine to plead for her help but found the latter with her head hung low. Celine clung onto Jasonâs arm, refusing to meet her eye.
It was as though they were both strangers.
Em was in depths of despair.
âClick! Click!â
Somebody forked out their phone and began to take pictures.
Soon, many more began to snap pictures of her.
Horrified, Em put her arms in the air before putting them over her face.
âStop! Donât take my picture! Donât!â
âWhy canât we? An earth-shattering news like this ought to have pictures as proof, or else no one will believe Little Cloud In The Sky is you!â
âYes, thatâs right! Donât tell me you still want to go through your game of deceit?â
These hedonistic boys with wealthy family backgrounds were jesting around, trying to make news on the hour.
They had no interest in Emâs feelings.
In a way, this was payback. They had indeed invested a lot in the disguised female divinity online and were unable to accept the vast discrepancy in looks.
Once everybody was done taking pictures, Celine stepped in.
âEnough! Stop taking pictures! Itâs not like Em did it on purpose. Sheâs just a girl facing hardships in life. Canât you let this pass?â
Seeing that Celine stepped up to the plate, everyone finally stopped.
As a matter of fact, they already had enough photographs.
Em was already choking with sobs. Nobody would be able to withstand such a public humiliation anyway.
Celine consoled her. âEm, donât cry. Iâm sorry, itâs all my fault. She wouldnât have taken a jab at you if I didnât step on her toes.â
Em quickly hurled a resentful stare at Nell.
Nell curled her lips in sarcasm.
Em was really stupid for failing see who was the real mastermind to this point. She had it coming!
Jason frowned.
At the end of the day, he did not want things to get out of hand. It was the schoolâs 70th anniversary after all. With various leaders across the school and district about to arrive any minute, this was not a sight to behold.
Hence, he took measures into his own hands and dispersed the crowd.
At this stage, everyone knew the show was over. There was nothing more to see here. Thus, they went about their way without a word.
Celine offered Em a few words of comfort before instructing Mia and Lily to accompany her to a guest room upstairs to rest.
After everyone left, Celine finally turned to gaze at Nell.
âSister, you must be happy to stir such ruckus!â
Nell raised her brow.
She stared back at Celine with an amused look on her face. âAre you saying I started it?â
âI admit, Mia and Lilyâs words stirred the pot but didnât I explain on your behalf? Why did you have to be so aggressive and get on Emâs case? Donât you know? Sheâs not from a rich family and only went online to earn an income, why did you have to...â
âI have no interest in listening to you air her dirty laundry!â
Nell coldly interrupted.
With a disappointed look on her face, Celine held tightly to her chest in pain.
âSister, why did you become like this!â
Jasonâs eyes too reflected bitter disappointment.
However, he held his tongue. Propping Celine, he said in a gentle voice, âAll right, Celine. The headmaster and the rest are coming soon. Letâs make a move and take a seat inside!â
Celine wiped away the indistinct tears by the corner of her eyes and muttered, âBrother Jay, you should head in first! Iâm going to go upstairs to take a look at Em. Iâll go over once Iâm sure sheâs okay.â
Jason nodded. âSounds good.â
He departed.
Celine and Nell were the only ones left on site.
âAlright now, you can stop your acting! Everyoneâs gone.â
Nell faintly responded.
Celine finally tucked away the grieving mask.
She straightened her back. One minute it was nothing but heartache, the next minute, a gleeful smug plastered her face.
âI really underestimated you but you think that by exposing Emily Hartâs true colors, Iâll be affected? Ha! Sheâs a brainless tw*t. I wouldn't have bothered to take her under my wing if it werenât because sheâs naive, and dances to my tune!â
Nell took a faint glimpse at her.
âSo? What are you trying to say to me?â
Celine let out a tender smile. She came forth and whispered in Nellâs ear, âDid you think that youâre able to capture Brother Jayâs heart again? Let me tell you! Five years ago, I brought you hell and I still can do the same five years later!â
Nellâs eyes turned cold.
Yet, Celine still continued.
âNo one likes a vile woman who persecutes her own sister, including Brother Jay! Do you know what he loves about me? Looks? Ha! No, he loves my kind heart and mild disposition. Heâll never fall for you as long as I keep it up. Do you understand?â
Nell scoffed.
âCeline Jennings, what spell does Jason Morton have you under? Why are you so delusional to think that heâs charming enough for me to forget?
Celineâs complexion saw a gush of emotions.
She looked towards Nell with eyes of repugnance and hatred.
âYouâre still unwilling to own up to it? If you really have forgotten about him, why did you dress up knowing heâd attend tonight? Donât play me a fool!
Iâll have you know, youâll never have him!
âTonight, Iâm going to let you relive the nightmare! Iâll crush the reputation, confidence... everything youâve built up the past five years. Youâll end up just like five years ago, a pitiful loser!â
The pent-up anger and jealousy that had been smothering her chest finally saw a brief release.
Straightening her back, Celine stared back with a face of confidence. Her eyes observed the delight and arrogance of a winner.
Nell gazed at her for long before slowly shaking her head.
She showed deep sympathy. âCeline Jennings, youâre too naive! So you plan to trigger a public outcry on an event that happened five years ago in your bid to condemn me beyond redemption?â
Celine coldly blurted, âYou have only yourself to blame! What gave you the guts to come here today?â
Nell smiled.
âWhy wouldnât I have?â
Celineâs heart sank. âWhat do you mean?â
âHa! Ah, nothing. The assured look on your face really had me feeling for you.â
The pupils of Celine dilated.
Nell took a step closer to her and murmured, âAre you really sure the manuscript you stole from my computer five years ago was the original?â
