Chapter 77
Spoiled by the President
Celine was speechless.
A crippling silence trailed along the air between them.
A few seconds later, she burst into giggles.
Lifting her head to meet Nellâs gaze, she coldly blurted, âYou think you can fool me?â
Nell clicked her tongue and shook her head. âFine if you donât believe me.â
Celine glowered.
âWhatâs the meaning of all this?â
âOh, nothing. Itâs great if you get it but it doesnât matter if you donât. My intention is to let you know that you caught me off guard when you brought me down five years ago but itâs different now!
âYou must be delusional to think Iâm that stupid. I knew you and Lily were going to set a strap in an attempt to lure me here and destroy the name I made for myself. Now, would I be that dumb to come unprepared?â
The color was washed off Celineâs face.
In disbelief, she shook her head.
âNo way! If you really had proof, why didnât you come forth five years ago?â
Nell sneered.
Without a word, she turned over, ready to walk away.
Caught in a fluster, Celine reached out to grab her.
âHold it right there! Get it straight...â
However, a figure rushed over in a scurry, knocking right onto Celine in a bang.
âAhhhhh!â
Amid a shriek, Nellâs quick reflexes laid hold of Janet. She turned for a look and found half of Celineâs skirt drenched in red wine.
âOops! Iâm sorry, really sorry. What a twist of fate, donât you think? I wasnât able to stop in time running here and rammed onto you!â
Janet grinned as she fished out a handkerchief to help wipe off the red wine.
Of course, Celine did not want her help. Afraid that Janet might push her by surprise, Celine quickly retreated back.
âDonât come any closer!â
âTsk! It is you who rejected my help so donât come blaming me that I didnât apologize!â
With that, Janet pulled back with a clear conscience.
Celine turned blue in the face.
Janet smiled. âDonât be angry. Itâs only a dress. The dress is ugly and makes you look like a pregnant old lady. I did you a favor by soiling it. At worst, Iâll buy you a new one.â
â...â
âAlso, pregnant women shouldnât get angry. You risk compromising the baby if you sulk. This is the only bargaining chip for you to marry into the Morton family so you have to treasure it.â
Celine was fuming.
After Mia sent Emily off, Mia came back looking for Celine because she was concerned that Celine was alone downstairs. She dashed over at the sight of Celine drenched in red wine.
âCeline, what happened to you?â
In the absence of words, Celine stared daggers at Janet. If looks could kill.
Ignoring Celine, Janet looked at Mia with a bright smile. âNothing. She soiled her dress by accident. Since youâre here, weâll leave her to you! A pregnant woman needs to be taken care of, after all. We donât want to intrude any further so weâll excuse ourselves. Bye-bye.â
She pulled Nell along and strode off.
â...â
Nell was surprised by Janetâs sudden appearance.
She could not help but laugh, harking back to when Celine was rendered speechless.
Tugging on Janetâs hand, she asked, âOh, where were you? You were away for a long time.â
Janetâs eyes twinkled.
She gave a vague answer. âNowhere. I was just catching up with a few familiar faces.â
Janet switched the topic to avoid continuance on the question. âOh, right. Did you let Celine in on it?â
Nell smiled. âI did.â
âDid she believe you?â
âIâm not sure whether she believes it or not but at the very least, it did cast some doubt.â
With downcast eyes, she took a moment before muttering, âSorry to trouble you tonight.â
Janet flashed a smile. âItâs no problem. I may not be of much help in other aspects, but I can certainly lend a hand in this. Donât worry! If anyone dares to appear tonight, Iâll bring âem before you.â
Janetâs assurance brought out a smile and nod from Nell.
On the other side.
Under the company of Mia, Celine returned to her room to change her clothes.
With the entire hotel booked for the private event, attending guests were mostly divided into individual guest rooms. It was so that they are able to rest after socializing late into the night. There was no rush for them to leave.
Celine and Miaâs rooms were on the eighth floor. The moment they stepped into the room, Mia could not hold her tongue anymore and cried out in anger. âThey have crossed the line! Splashing wine at you in public?â
Celine was looking dreary herself.
âNell wouldnât dare. It was Janet.â
âThat b*tch!â
Blowing her top, Mia breathed through clenched teeth. âItâs just because her fatherâs the chairman of Hancock Enterprise. What is this, a show of power?â
Celine smirked.
âHer identity as the daughter of Hancock Enterprise is impressive enough! At least, itâs more impressive than you and I!â
âBut...â
âEnough of that. This is the end of the conversation. Bring me a gown. Brother Jay is still waiting for me downstairs. I need to go quickly.â
Without another word, Mia brought her a gown.
After Mia left, Celine walked into the bathroom, washing her hands while deep in thought.
Subsequent to the hand wash, she glanced at the beautiful face in the mirror, staring blankly into space.
Nellâs words a moment ago lingered in her ear.
âAre you really sure the manuscript you stole from my computer five years ago was the original?â
Celine felt tightness in her chest, revisiting the certain and confident look on Nellâs face.
It was im-impossible!
She did indeed copy the manuscript from Nellâs computer. By right, Nell should not have another copy!
Nevertheless, why was there uneasiness brewing within?
She knew Nell too well!
Nell would never say those words in her face without any means of certainty!
She would not bluff because she simply was not that kind of a person!
However... what if it was not true?
What good did it do her for lying to Celine?
Was it just to ruffle her feathers? In hopes that she would back down and refrain from making things difficult for Nell today?

Celine frowned. Her mind was a mess, unable to make head or tail out of it.
It did throw her off balance though.
In the past five years, outsiders only saw her in better days and never knew how much work she put into it.
Marketing alone did not get her to where she was today. It was genuine sacrifices and hard work.
With so much on the line for her to climb to this spot, she would not allow herself to fall back down.
Celine made strenuous efforts to kick Nell to the curb and steal Jasonâs heart. Now that she was living the life she always wanted, how could she possibly allow anyone to take it away?
No way, no way Jose!
With that, she took a deep breath.
Then came a knock on the door.
