Chapter 78
Spoiled by the President
Miaâs voice was heard from the other side of the door.
âCeline, are you in there? I brought you a gown.â
Celine regained her composure before turning to open the door.
âThank you.â
âYouâre welcome.â
While smiling, Mia noticed the disoriented look on her face. Hence, she asked out of concern, âCeline, are you okay?â
Forcing a smile, Celine shook her head.
Although she was shaking her head, her facial features read, âI have something on my mind. Iâm sad.â
It was obvious for Mia to take the hint.
She exercised worry. âCeline, did that b*tch Nell bully you again? Did she call you and say something?â
Celine still shook her head.
After a slight pause, she grabbed Mia by the hand and said, âIâm okay. Iâm jus-just a little worried.â
âWorried about what?â
âI...â
With her head hung low, Celine hid her the twinkle in her eyes.
âCeline, speak up! Iâm sitting on the edge.â
Celine finally replied in a gentle voice, âYou probably wonât believe me. I find it hard to believe myself. I didnât think... I didnât think that my sister was this sort of a person. I really...â
Her voice was gradually choked up in sobs.
The waterworks started on Celineâs face too.
Not one to hold back, Mia immediately chimed in. âI knew it! That b*tch bullied you again! Tell me, what did she do?â
Celine shook her head. She took a while to gather herself together before retorting, âAfter you escort Em to the room, she stopped me and told me that she had gotten hold of the manuscript I drew five years ago, that sheâd be able to prove that it was her own work as long as she pulled the manuscript out tonight!â
Mia widened her eyes in disbelief.
âF*ck! How much of a b*tch she can get? Wouldnât that paint you as the villain?â
Celine nodded.
âIâve never seen anyone more shameless!â
âMia, youâre my best sister. I only have the courage to tell you this. I really donât know what to do. You know, my sister can be really good with her words. Iâm afraid that sheâll bring out the manuscript and twist the facts. Iâll be done for.â
Infuriated, Mia responded, âCeline, donât be afraid. For her to say such a thing, it can only mean that she brought the manuscript today. Everything will be alright as long as we steal the manuscript before she puts it on display.â
Taken by surprise, Celine looked at her with vacant eyes.
âSteal-steal it?â
Mia firmly nodded.
âYes.â
âBut... Thatâs not very nice.â
âWhatâs not very nice? She was the one who took it too far!â
Mia at last noticed the dilemma in Celineâs eyes.
Though on edge, she patted her chest.
âDonât you worry. You donât have to participate in this. Iâll help you take care of everything. Just make sure to stall the b*tch, so she doesnât return to her room.â
Celine gazed at her, between two minds.
Finally, she meekly let in. âAlright... then!â
âHave a change of clothes. Iâll head off first.â
âOkay, thank you, Mia.â
Following Miaâs departure, Celine closed the door and straightened her back.
The earlier wavering and fragility on her beautiful face was nowhere in sight!
All that was left was contempt and disgust.
Muttering âidiotâ under her breath, she changed into the last-minute gown of a bad fit in distaste.
...
With the event in the school over, many people began to gather in the ballroom.
Weaving her way through the crowd with ease, Nell socialized in all smiles.
She was never fond of these events but the two years as the manager of public relations in Fenghua compelled her to a position to be social, teaching her to grow accustomed to it.
The lively scene gave an illusion as though the earlier nuisance never existed. No one was tactless enough to bring up the incident.
After all, no matter how big of a headliner it was, it was none of their concern.
This was only good for gossip, and today was not the occasion to chat about it. With the guests today mostly with wealthy and noble backgrounds, it was the time and place to be social and get acquainted. Who in their right mind would talk about puny matters that happened during high school?
Nellâs naturally poised conduct had many develop a mental block, unable to draw a connection to her and the scandal five years ago.
Anyway, the past was in the past. Since the person involved was not fussing about it, they were happy to play along.
Hence, no one gave Nell the cold shoulder due to the earlier nuisance. There were even a few men of wealthy backgrounds, awed by her beauty, that came to strike up a conversation.
With open arms, Nell mildly and politely responded to all without putting anyone down or seeming overly off-putting.
Having dabbled in the social exchanges throughout the years, she was too familiar with how the world goes round.
On the surface, these people may be born with a silver spoon when in fact, they amassed quite a network. Perhaps one day, she would need help from one of them.
An additional friend was better than an additional enemy!
From afar, Jason stared at the figure shuttling back and forth, socially active amidst the crowd. His face darkened a shade.
This went on until he heard a gentle and clear voice behind him.
âBrother Jay.â
He turned and saw Celine. Putting down the wine glass in his hand, he pulled her over.
âHave you visited her? How is she?â
Celine shook her head.
âSheâs all right, just a little sad. I have Lily with her upstairs. Give her time and sheâll be over it.â
âOkay.â
With that, the conversation ended. Jason picked up his glass, taking a sip now and then.
Celine was a little disappointed.
âBrother Jay, donât... you have anything to say to me?â
Jason was dumbfounded. He looked towards her. âTalk about what?â
â...â
With bitter misery creeping inside her, her eyes were slowly tainted red.
Forcing a smile, she hung her head low.
âI thought youâd be worried about me and ask why I had a change of clothes midway.â

After closer inspection, he realized the dress on Celine was the same.
His facial muscles tensed. Feeling awkward, he let out a soft cough.
âAbout that... Iâm sorry. I didnât notice because I was deep in thought. What happened? Why did you change your clothes?â
The manâs uneasy tone and gaze left Celine heartbroken.
Meeting Jasonâs gaze, she could see the dodging and perfunctory response in his eyes. She was utterly upset.
âNothing. Someone spilled wine on me by accident.â
These words did carry a hint of spite.
He probably would be able to guess without her mentioning the perpetrator.
