Chapter 80
Spoiled by the President
As expected, Jason frowned.
Nell lifted a brow.
Lifting her wrist, she took a glance at the time.
It was half-past ten at night.
Although it was not very late, it was not early either.
She pursed her lips. âItâs fine. You should stay longer and have fun since youâre that enthusiastic!â
Nell then proceeded to take strides to the lift without glancing back.
Celineâs face was washed of its color.
She wanted to call her, but Nell, with her heart set on leaving, paid no attention to her.
Celine was fuming.
âGodd*mn it! Why isnât Mia here yet?â
Beside her, the furrow between Jasonâs brows deepened.
âCeline, donât force her if she doesnât want to. Letâs go over. There are people there waiting for us.â
Celine was thrown into panic.
As the lift doors began closing, Celine gnashed her teeth and charged ahead.
âSister!â
Jason glowered.
Even Nell who was already in the lift, frowned.
The next second, Nell had one hand on the âopenâ button and the other propping Celine up. Blue in the face, she chided, âFind some other place to die in if youâre really that sick of living! Donât be an eyesore here!â
Jason dashed over and held Celine up. It was quite a menacing look on his face.
âWhat are you doing? Donât you know how dangerous it was?â
Of course Celine was aware how dangerous it was.
She was petrified thinking back but there was no turning back at that point.
Mia still was not there, so Nell needed to stick around.
Celine was about to speak when suddenly, a middle-aged man came sprinting from outside. The man took a glance at the trio before his gaze fixated on Nell. He uttered with the utmost respect, âAre you, Ms. Nell Jennings?â
Nell nodded.
âThereâs been an accident involving your friend on the twelfth floor, Ms. Hancock. We would like you to come up for a second.â
...
Nell followed the staff member to the guest room.
Celine and Jason came along too.
The moment they stepped out of the lift, they were welcomed by a rather heavy atmosphere haunting the entire floor. Security personnel gathered by the entrance of one of the guest rooms while ruckus stirred inside.
Celine made a face.
Jason was still in the dark of what was going on. However, his instincts urged him to tag along when he noticed Nell looking out of sorts after a brief encounter with the staff member.
The huge scene stirring inside prompted his inquiry. âWhat happened?â
Nell turned back to throw him a quick glance before fixating her gaze on Celine with a pretentious smile.
âI donât know myself. Celine, do you know anything about it?â
Celine strenuously tugged the corner of her lips.
âHow would I know if you are unclear about it?â
Observing her pale face, Jason asked, âIs something the matter? Are you feeling under the weather?â
Celineâs eyes alighted with a glint.
Others may not recognize the voice from the row inside but she did.
It was Mia.
Was she caught?
It was highly unlikely. With everyone downstairs in the ballroom during the time, who apprehended her?
For her safetyâs sake, it was best she kept a distance. Hence, she forced a smile, falling her hand on her forehead.
âBrother Jay, I have a headache. I might have caught a cold.â
âThen...â
âWhy donât we take a break together in my room since you have a headache! I happen to have some pills for headaches in the room.â
âReally, thereâs no need for that.â
âCeline! Why are you feeling guilty and wonât come with me?â
The muscles behind Celineâs back tightened.
She gazed at Nell and got a load of the familiar aloofness and positive assurance from the depths of her eyes.
Celine cringed within.
She was about to refuse when Jason, who was beside her, opened his mouth.
âGo in for a break. You canât walk around now that youâre pregnant. Rest here and if youâre still in pain, Iâll arrange for someone to drive you to the hospital.â
The situation was too far gone for her to back out.
In the end, she followed them to Nellâs room.
In a room, Janet sat on a sofa with four security personnel by her side. They were not hotel staff, but private bodyguards hired by Janet in advance.
With her limbs tied up, Mia sat on her knees in the center of the living area. She was a hot mess with streaks of smudged make-up running across her face after bawling her eyes out.
It was not just Nell, Celine, and Jason who turned up.
The commotion upstairs intrigued many rubbernecks.
Hence, a crowd had already formed outside the room before they arrived. These onlookers were curious.
Celine turned ashen in complexion.
âHuh? Whatâs going on?â
Nell faintly commented.
At the sight of her, Janet stood up and smiled. âYouâre finally back. I helped you catch a thief today. Take a look. You know her!â
Nell turned her gaze to the center of the living room.
She feigned surprise. âMia Bell? Why are you here?â
âI...â
Having realized that she was taken in, she hummed and hawed. âI merely stepped in the wrong room. Yet, you tied me up and framed me a thief!
Nell, whatâs the meaning of this?â
Nell raised a brow.
âStepped in the wrong room?â
She scoffed. âIf I remember correctly, your room should be on the eighth floor. How did you end up on the twelfth floor?â
Mia was speechless.
In a fluster, she turned to glance at Celine before fumbling over her words. âCanât you accept that I-I was drunk?â
âDrunk?â Janet smirked. âDrunk enough to come and ransack someone elseâs room? Canât you come up with some solid facts before you tell a lie?
Moreover, I saw that your head was clear when you took out a flash drive to copy a document from the computer!â
Mia was caught off balance.
Still, she feigned ignorance. âWhat document? I donât know what you are talking about!â
Without wasting another breath, Janet ordered the bodyguards to search her body for the flash drive.
âAnything else to say?â
Mia was out of excuses to fire back with the flash drive found.
Amid her silence, Janet asked Nell, âHow should we take care of this?â
Mia glared at Nell with all her might.
The look she gave her had nuances of threat and warning.
Nell mockingly curled her lips. Her gaze was distant.
âLet the police handle it!â
âWhat?â
Mia cried out in shock, âNell, donât take a mile just because I gave an inch! Itâll land us both in hot water if I were to expose the truth!â
Nell sneered. âIâm tempted to find out how much hot water Iâll be landing in by the supposed truth youâre speaking of.â
By this time, the crowd who caught wind of the situation had begun to build up.
Many stood by the door, stirring up a storm in murmurs.
âSigh, whatâs the deal? Why did Mia Bell go to her room to steal a document?â
âI donât know! Could it be some trade secret?â
âIf that were the case, stealing intellectual property is a major crime. Thatâs at least a few years in prison, right?â
âYes but she deserves it! The audacity to come into someoneâs room to steal!â
