Chapter 81
Spoiled by the President
The criticism threw Mia into a state of panic.
Seeing that Nell was unwilling to budge, she blurted, âEnough! What trade secret? Itâs only a simple design manuscript.
âNell Jennings, five years ago, you stole Celineâs design and passed it off as your own. Letâs not forget that you crippled any chances of her enrolling in the Royal Academy of Arts!
âNow, youâre going to use the original manuscript from five years ago to set her up and claim this design as yours! For the wicked person that you are, arenât you afraid youâll anger the heavens?â
These words stumped everyone.
What? Mia had in her hand the design manuscript of the scandal involving Nell five years ago?
What was the meaning of all this?
Having got the picture, the people saw Nell in a different light.
Using the original manuscript from five years ago to set Celine up and claim the design as hers... That could only mean...
Janet stayed tight-lipped.
She gestured towards Nell by giving her a look.
âSister, you asked me to help you play a scene but you never told me what happens in this scenario!â
Of course, Janet did not believe Nell intended to frame Celine.
Only, it never crossed her mind that Mia would say such a thing. The absence of proof about the incident was the reason why Nell was not cast free of doubts. The way Mia was leading the atmosphere in the room, they might have just shot themselves in the foot.
Janet may have felt unsettled but Nell reacted by scoffing.
âSo youâre saying that the design blueprint in the flash drive is the original manuscript from five years ago?â
Mia straightened her back. âOf course.â
âHa!â
She let out a despondent smile without a word more. Making a beeline towards the table, she started up the laptop and plugged in the flash drive.
Soon, the document was located.
âSince youâre here, Celine Jennings, why donât you come and take a look at what this document is all about?â
To be called by name out of the blue, Celine was startled. She maintained a calm outlook as she walked over but when her eyes feasted on the colorful design print on the screen, she widened her eyes in disbelief.
âMadam Amyâs latest design sketch?â
Nell gave a nod. âYes, I found it online. I saved it intending to derive into Amyâs recent inspiration and style. I didnât think you were also interested in this work! You could have told me and Iâll send you a copy. Why the need to sneak behind my back, right?â
Color completely washed off Celineâs face.
Joining her in a lighter complexion, was Mia.
How did it come to this?
Just moments earlier, Celine still held on to some hope even when Mia was captured.
In the eyes of the public, she was the victim in the incident five years ago.
Everybody would take her side as long as she persisted that Nell was out to get her and the instruction to have Mia steal the original was merely an act of defense.
Yet now...
How did it end up like this?
Nell narrowed her eyes in reflection of her delight.
âCeline Jennings, you seem disappointed!â
Celine was too in shock to adjust her facial muscles. A chill crept up her spine at the thought of Nell going through lengths to get her good tonight.
Sensing something amiss, Jason who was standing beside whispered, âCeline, what on earth is going on?â
Others may be unaware of Mia and Celineâs relationship, but he was cognizant.
However, Celine kept to herself.
Janet ran out of patience. âWe should call the police, now that everythingâs cleared up!â
Mia shouted, âDonât call the cops!â
âWho do you think you are, ordering me?â
âYou canât call the police!â
Mia lunged forward and knocked the phone right out of Janetâs hand. Her face read fear and terror.
Nell coldly responded, âIsnât calling the cops a good solution since you think that Iâm setting you and Celine up? Let the police do their job and determine whoâs the culprit and victim. Wouldnât that be fair?â
Mia shook her head. âNo-no!â
Although Mia was a third-rate actress, she did make a little name for herself.
It was through blood, sweat, and tears that she made it to where she was today. It would be the end of her career if the police were called and convicted her of theft!
Nell coldly smirked.
âI donât have to call the cops but you have to tell me, the reason behind you being here.â
Nearby, Celine clenched her fist in secret while quietly shuffling backward.
Pretending to take no notice, Nell reached out and faintly said, âIâll count to three. Itâs your last chance to tell the truth. Otherwise, Iâll let the police handle it!
âOne.
âTwo.
â...â
âIâll speak!â
Mia burst out.
A huge uproar broke out outside.
So there was more than it met the eye!
Sensing the downturn of events, Celine grazed her hand past her forehead before falling back into Jasonâs arms.
âBrother Jay, my headâs hurting. Itâs really noisy here. Can you take me out?â
Jason did not want to leave.
He wanted to get to the bottom of the conflict between Nell and Mia, after all.
Nevertheless, he acted upon Celineâs pale and pained complexion and brought her out with a frown.
âItâs Celine Jennings! She called me over to let me know that you stole her original work five years ago and wanted to clear your name tonight. She didnât want you to release the manuscript so she told me to steal it. It has nothing to do with me. I was just put up to it by her.â
Everyone was shocked.
For a moment, they simply could not believe their ears.
What?
Celine Jennings?
Jason was too gobsmacked.
He lowered his head to examine the woman in his embrace. Celine was as white as a sheet; her lips quivering.
Before she had the chance to rebuke, Nellâs icy cold voice chimed in.
âCeline Jennings, itâs not the right time for you to leave now that youâre implicated!â
Celine and Jason stopped in their tracks.
Under the crowdâs watchful eye, the couple rigidly turned over.

âI donât know what sheâs talking about.â
Miaâs eyes were popping out.
âCeline, what are you saying? You told me that Nell had gotten her hands on the original manuscript from way back. You had me retrieve it for you and now youâre denying all this?â
Taking a deep breath in, Celine made a straight face.
She glanced towards Mia with bitter resentment.
âMia, Nell is my sister. We have already buried the hatchet and I just donât want to be hung up on it anymore. I believe Nell has turned over a new leaf. We are on good terms, so whatâs this story about a set up?
âYou canât just twist the facts and drive a wedge between us sisters!â
Mia was dumbstruck.
She was unable to comprehend the words coming out of Celineâs mouth.
