Chapter 84
Spoiled by the President
Jasonâs face stiffened.
Grabbing him by the arm, Celine uttered with a trembling voice, âBrother Jay, I didnât...â
Janet scoffed. âGo on, play pretend!â
Celine. â...â
Nevertheless, Celine was unable to hold her tongue anymore, being under scrutiny of the public.
With a sad face, she looked towards Nell, quivering under her breath. âSister, I canât believe youâd say such a thing! Fine, I have nothing more to say if you insist on accusing me of framing you but empty words alone do not prove that youâre right!â
There was an admirer of Celine who just could not bear to see her in a sorrowful and fragile state.
He spoke in support of Celine, âThatâs right. You didnât explain yourself five years ago. Now that the dust has settled, you come out of nowhere and proclaim that you were wrongly accused. How can it be proven?â
Janet froze.
She had been moving accordingly to Nellâs plan and had not accounted for this step.
Hence, Janet gave Nell the side glance.
Nell coldly curled her lips and was about to speak.
âWhat makes you think it canât be proven?â
A frigid yet steady voice was heard from the outside.
The voice, similar to the cold breeze outdoors, brought in a rush of distinct chill into everyoneâs head.
Nell shocked as she cast a gaze of disbelief at the door and the sturdy figure walking in.
Gideon Leith?
Why was he here?
The crowd was in a daze.
Most attendees of the school celebration were prominent figures who had already made a name for themselves in the society.
Although they had no interaction with Gideon before, they knew who he was.
Gideon was on the financial news cover every week after all.
Only... Why was he here?
Was Azure High now on that level? It was only a school celebration yet even a big shot like him graced the event.
People were happy to have a big name show respect to their alma mater. It was basically showing respect to them!
His chilling gaze swept past the crowd and finally fixated on Nell.
âSince these two insist that the work is their own, why donât we have them both have a rematch and redo the art from five years ago? The truth will be revealed then!â
The headmaster and the rest were pleasantly surprised by his arrival.
âPresident Leith, youâre here.â
After giving a faint nod, Gideon barely acknowledged him.
The Joneses had made unwarranted accusations towards his Nelly back during the birthday celebration. He had not dealt with them yet!
Seeing Gideon giving him the cold shoulder, the principal did not advance forward. Instead, he smiled apologetically. âWe werenât expecting you, please excuse us for not meeting you at the door. Do accept my apologies.â
Gideon frowned.
In the end, he turned to take a glance at the principal.
âDidnât you send me an invitation? Why werenât you expecting me?â
The headmaster, â...â
The guests, â...â
âReally? You donât have an inkling how hard it is to invite you?â
âAfter all these years, the number of times youâve attended events can be counted with your fingers.â
Although everyone grumbled silently, no one dared to speak their mind.
Awkwardly, the principal took one for the team. âYes, yes, please pardon our oversight...â
Gideon raised his hand to interrupt. âThatâs enough. Letâs get back to the matter at hand! What do you think of my suggestion earlier? If both parties consent, you can begin the competition immediately. Youâre just recreating your own work anyway. It shouldnât take too much time!â
Celine turned blue in the face.
The muscles on Nellâs face tensed before she gave a straightforward answer, âNo problem. I agree with the suggestion.â
With that, she turned to glance at Celine.
âI remember you told the public that it took you two months to complete the work. Basically, your blood, sweat, and tears. I guess it isnât easy for you to forget what art thatâs made from your blood, sweat, and tears, looks like right? So it shouldnât be hard for you to recreate it, huh?â
Color was washed off Celineâs face completely.
Celine glared at Nell, wishing she could gobble her up.
Janet provoked her. âCeline Jennings, donât tell me you donât have the guts? Tsk, just be blunt and say that youâre feeling guilty! By giving up, youâre admitting that you framed Nelly. Weâre not asking for a lot. Just get on your knees and apologize. Nelly, what say you?â
Nell smiled.
âAdd a kowtow in! Iâve been wronged for five years, after all.â
The act of the duo echoing each other was as though the matter was a done deal.
Celine felt a rush of blood to the head.
At the side, the troubled look on Celineâs face left Jason with a hunch.
Nonetheless, he found it hard to believe that the Celine he knew was capable of doing such a thing.
Regardless, he still had her back.
âCeline, arenât you unwell? Why donât I bring you to the hospital?â
Celine nodded.
Pale in the face, she cowered over her tummy.
âPresident Leith, I agree to your suggestion but Iâm feeling under the weather. Can we have the competition tomorrow instead?â
Gideon frowned.
Nell jumped in. âNo problem!â
Noticing Gideonâs inquisitive gaze, she smiled. âSheâs a pregnant woman. Nothingâs going to happen if we wait one more night. As the saying goes, you can run but you canât hide. Itâs alright, Iâm not in a rush.â
The crowd could not hold back their chuckles.
Celineâs face was painted in different shades of color.
However, fortunate to have escaped for the time being, she bottled up her anger within as she uttered with a gruff, âOkay, weâll compete tomorrow.
Where will it be?â
âLetâs have it here! Iâll be waiting for you here at ten in the morning. Remember to show up.â
âDonât worry, Iâll be there.â
Celine then turned to Jason and said, âBrother Jay, letâs go.â
Jason escorted her to leave.
With them gone, it was time to disperse.
As Gideonâs presence was not frequent, the principal wanted to get in good with him while he still could. However, Gideon suddenly approached and held Nell by the hand before unhappily adding, âHow could you leave me at home to attend this lame celebration on an important day like today?
What good is there to attend this?â
Nell awkwardly smiled.
âDonât say that. I did... study here for three years.â
âHa! A school that canât even tell from right to wrong. What relationship is there to build even if you study here for thirty years?â
He pulled Nell to walk out.
The headmaster straightened his face.
He followed close behind.
âPresident Leith.â
Gideon stopped in his tracks and turned to him. His eyes were cold.
âPrincipal Jones, I had always thought that Azure High, as Jinchengâs top school, should at least be able to distinguish between right and wrong. By the looks of it, I was wrong, but itâs fine. I can protect my woman. My only wish is that you, the Joneses, just look out for yourselves.â
He strode off with Nell in hand.
Color drained from Principal Jonesâ face.
Look out for ourselves?
What did it mean?
Everybody knew that the Joneses were able to keep in power in Jincheng with the Garretts as their backing in the capital.
The Garretts and Leiths...
Principal Jones was as white as a sheet.
Nell and Gideon walked out of the hotel but they were not in a hurry to get onto the car.
With Nellâs hands a little cold, Gideon went to a nearby coffee shop to purchase a cup of milky tea for her to hold between her hands.
He took off the scarf she bought for him and put it on her.
As he put the scarf on her, he grumbled.
âWhy are you wearing so little on a chilly day? Arenât you afraid youâll be cold? Do you really think youâre clad in iron?â
