Chapter 85
Spoiled by the President
With a word, Nell held the milky tea and smiled.
Gideon kicked up a fuss but could not find any more words as he gazed at her smiling face. He lit up with a smile.
âWell, spill the beans! Did you plan this?â
Nell nodded.
Gideonâs appearance today may be unexpected but the event still played out according to her original plan.
She had also had a rematch with Celine in mind.
Only, with Gideon as the mediator, it would be a fair competition.
Singing the same tune, Gideon gave a faint smile. âI shouldnât have interfered.â
Nell shook her head.
âNo, you came at the right time.â
She never brought up that although she had a plan figured out, it might fall through.
The Joneses... were not people she could trust anymore.
Five years ago, Oliver Jones was the one who had convicted her of the accusation.
Would justice be served with a rematch occurring five years later without the presence of a fair judge?
It was great that he was here.
With someone backing her up, Nell felt her back straightening up!
Janet took strides out of the hotel and smiled. âOh my, did I just witness something Iâm not supposed to? Nelly, why donât you introduce us?â
Nell pursed her lips into a grin as she pulled Janet over to introduce to Gideon.
âThis is my best friend, Janet Hancock.â
âJan, this is Gideon Leith, my...â
She paused. Rosy pink crept up her ears as though it had been patted down with rouge.
In the end, she whispered, âMy husband.â
Janet widened her eyes in surprise.
âWhat? You-youâre married...â
Nell covered her mouth.
âShhh! Quiet down!â
She muttered an explanation, âWe married in secret.â
Janet nodded in understanding.
After Nell loosening her grip, Janet threw a glance at Gideon before turning to Nell, giving a thumbs up.
âYou guys are the bomb. In such a short span of time, you... Hmm, Iâm impressed.â
Nell grinned in a bashful manner.
Gideon was not pleased with Nellâs secretive attitude, acting like he was an embarrassment.
Hence, he chose to keep silent in show of his displeasure.
Janet asked, âNelly, tell me truthfully. Itâs been five years, how much do you remember of that work? Youâll drop the ball if you canât recreate the whole thing tomorrow.â
Nell smiled.
She fished out a color drawing from her purse and said, âIâve made preparations. I drew this from memory and itâs an exact copy of the art from five years ago. I drew this out of fear I might have forgotten it. Iâll outline this tomorrow.â
Feeling assured, Janet nodded.
âGreat. Itâs getting late so Iâd best be going now. Iâll come see you tomorrow.â
Nell nodded. âOkay.â
Just as Janet was leaving, a dark figure in hiding crept out into the dark of the night.
Nell glanced at the hot milky tea before taking a sip. She blurted, âGideon Leith, I have the urge to use the ladiesâ room. Why donât you wait for me here?â
Gideon uttered in a low voice, âIâll accompany you.â
âItâs alright. The ladiesâ room is on the first floor. Iâll go myself. Help me hold my milk tea.â
Gideon frowned.
However, he said nothing and nodded under her watchful gaze.
Nell went to the toilet on the first floor.
As her purse was a clutch, it was inconvenient for her to bring along to the stall.
Handing her purse to the attendant by the toilet entrance, she enquired, âCan you hold onto this for two minutes? Iâll be right out.â
The attendant often encountered this situation. They were standing here to provide this service to guests anyway.
Thus, she nodded while receiving Nellâs purse with respect. She gave Nell a ticket number with which she could later claim the purse.
Nell was only in the toilet for a brief moment.
Once she was out, she retrieved the purse with the ticket and left the hotel.
At the corner of a stairwell, a tall figure gazed in the direction the woman was leaving before turning its gaze onto the color painting. The figure smirked.
The next day.
It was ten in the morning when Nell and Celine arrived on time.
Compared to yesterdayâs white as a sheet, the Celine today was rosy in the cheeks. Her eyes sparkled with delight.
It was a contrast to Nell, who since her arrival, had her brows in a knot.
When her eyes were casted at Celine, Nellâs face went red as though she wanted to rip Celine apart. Nevertheless, she held it together with everybody around.
The look on Nellâs face sent Celineâs eyes twinkling with smugness.
Acting as judges for the competition, Gideon and Oliver had arrived.
Alongside them, were another three teachers from the art academy.
They were the examiners during that year. Gideon had sought out the trio.
The rule of the competition was simple.
Nell and Celine would be divided into two rooms and given an hour to recreate the work from five years ago.
The original artist would be decided based on the similarity in reproduction.
Nell knew that Celine had seen, perhaps only a glimpse of her work a day before the examination. Nevertheless, Celine definitely did not have it engraved in her mind like Nell had.
In addition, with five years having passed, Celine would not be able to make an exact copy, at least in certain areas without painting every stroke herself.
Moreover, Nell gave her another surprise last night.
Celine must be on cloud nine right now!
At that thought, Nell coldly smiled to herself.
Without hesitation, her hand glided over the graphics tablet in dynamic strokes.
Time passed.
About forty minutes later, the door of one of the rooms suddenly swung open and out walked Celine.
âIâm done.â
Oliver nodded.

Celine gave a confident smile.
âOf course, I emailed the work to the address the principal gave. Brother Jay, I told you, I drew the art. Are you still skeptical of me?â
The assured look on her face abolished the last bits of doubt in Jasonâs mind.
âWhat are you rambling about? I trust you.â
On the side, Gideon coldly curled his lips.
After another ten minutes, Nell walked out of the room.
Compared to Celineâs tenacity, she seemed on edge.
Nell said to Oliver, âIâve emailed it to your address. Itâs been five years so I might have forgotten a few minor details. I canât guarantee 100%
reproduction, but... itâs more or less.â
Oliver frowned and cast a worried glance at her.
In the end, he bit his tongue and called the three examiners over instead to open the document together.
The two drawings compared side by side caused a change of emotions in the lot.
