Chapter 863

Spoiled by the President

Vickie joined him too and for a better view of the Arcane Jade, she leaned her whole body over to Gregory so much that their heads were almost touching.

After a while, she whispered, "See anything?"

Gregory's handsome brow wrinkled slightly as he said in a deep voice, "This isn’t the piece from four years ago?"

"What?"

Startled, Vickie looked at him in surprise.

Gregory put the jade down and only when he turned his head did he notice that she had leaned in at some point.

They were very close, so close that he could easily smell the faint scent of lavender on her hair, and he could not help but hold his breath.

Yet very quickly, he acted as if he had not noticed their distance and wiped off his strange expression. Instead, he leaned towards her, bringing them even closer together.

He held up the piece of jade in his hand and explained to her, "Look at the carving on this. I’ve carefully observed the symbols on the piece from four years ago, and they’re different from this piece."

Vickie only noticed it when he said that.

However, she had not studied it back then, so her memory was rather fuzzy. She could only vaguely recall that it was a little different.

Gregory continued, "On the previous piece, the carvings were on the horizontal side, but this one’s on the vertical side. The shape of each character is also different."

Vickie frowned.

"That’s why you’re saying these two aren't the same?"

Gregory nodded.

He then put the jade piece down, got up, grabbed his laptop, and sat back down.

After he turned on his laptop, he flipped out the information he had people look up earlier and pulled it out to show her.

"According to my investigation, there are a total of twelve pieces to this Arcane Jade. Each piece has a corresponding name. The one before is called “Greedy Wolf’. Based on the carving and symbols on this one, I’m guessing that it should be “Orion Antares’."

Vickie was startled.

"Orion Antares?"

“Mm.”

Gregory turned the computer screen towards her so she could take a closer look at it.

Vickie scanned through all the information roughly and had it memorized in her mind.

"So, the Flinders wasn't the one who started that conflict in the first place?"

Gregory's eyebrows were tightly locked. "It's still not certain."

Although they now knew that this piece of jade was not the same piece as the one that disappeared four years ago, judging from his intuition, he still felt that this matter was somehow related to the Flinders.

When Vickie saw this, she did not ask any further questions.

Instead, she picked up the piece of jade and shone it under the light. "Do you think this really has such a magical effect as they say in the legends?"

Gregory looked at her with a blank face and said, "You can try."

"What?"

Vickie turned her head and looked at him quizzically.

With a smile, Gregory said, "Didn't the legend say that it could make you live forever? How about you wear it and wait a few decades? If you don’t grow old, then it probably works."

Only then did Vickie realize that the man was just making fun of her.

Her face immediately sank as she glared at him. "Go away."

Gregory laughed.

However, she was still a little confused.

"They say it's a treasure, and the Flinders sure isn't short of money. What does it mean if they're putting it up for auction?"

Gregory shook his head.

In fact, he did not know the Flinders’ purpose then.

If they did not do it for money or benefit, that probably meant they had some other ulterior motive.

As he thought this, his heart sank.

In the end, he said, "Let's take this one step at a time. Right now, they’ve only taken this out and they haven’t made any other moves yet. As long as they have a motive, they’ll definitely make a move. So there's no need to rush as they’ll eventually reveal themselves later."

Vickie nodded, and finally, her gaze fell on the jade in the box.

"Then what do we do with this now?"

Gregory said faintly, "Leave it for now."

After a pause, he suddenly looked at her and asked, "During this time, did Dan Thinple come to see you?"

At the mention of this, Vickie's brows furrowed.

She shook her head and replied, "No."

Gregory had also furrowed his brows a little. "I somehow feel that his appearance this time has something to do with the auction that the Flinders organized."

Vickie was so stunned that she asked, "What do you mean?"

"I can't really say."

The man rubbed his temple somewhat wearily for a moment before he said quietly, "It's just a gut feeling. Isn't this something you women trust a lot?"

After he said that, he even looked at her with a smile.

Vickie snorted and sneered. "Not every woman believes that, okay?"

Gregory asked rhetorically, "You don't believe in it?"

"I don't believe in it."

She paused for a while before she explained, "Rather than believing in those illusions, I believe what I see with my eyes."

She also pointed to her own eyes as she said that.

Gregory pondered and said, "But there are times when the eyes can be deceiving."

When he saw that Vickie was stunned, he explained, "For instance, there are times when what you see may not be true. In this world, too many things are out of one’s control. Instead, it's important to feel with your heart. Follow your heart because what you feel in your heart is what's true."

The man's words rang in her ears, and Vickie fell silent for a moment.

After a while, she said, "Maybe."

She waved her hand as if she did not want to continue this topic.

"Okay, I've looked at the jade and there's no clue now, so I'll go back to my room."

Gregory nodded.

Only then did Vickie leave.

She did not know if it was her illusion, but when she left, she felt like a burning gaze was staring at her the whole time.

After returning to her room, Vickie rested for a while.

When she got up after her nap, it was already 3:30 pm.

She opened her eyes and because she had just woken up, her head was still a bit muddled at this point.

Vickie looked up and saw that the sun was very strong outside, so her whole body too was a little dizzy.

"Andrea!"

She shouted.

Andrea quickly came in from outside and saw that she was awake. Her eyes flashed with joy as she asked, "Are you awake?"

She sat on the bed and hung her head low. Her eyebrows were slightly furrowed as if she was a little uncomfortable.

Andrea walked over to her, poured her a glass of water, and handed it over. She asked with concern, "What's wrong? Do you feel uncomfortable?"

Vickie shook her head.

She was silent for a while before she said, "I don't know, I guess I didn't sleep well. My head’s a bit dizzy."

Andrea thought about it before she replied, "That could be. Why don't I give you a massage with some essential oil? To help you relax."

Vickie looked up. She was quite surprised.

"You know how to massage?"

Andrea smiled. "I learned a little before but I’m just not too good at it. I hope you don't mind."

Vickie considered it. Since she had nothing to do and she was indeed uncomfortable, she might as well let Andrea give it a go.
