Chapter 90

Spoiled by the President

Understanding the severity of the situation, Matthew immediately replied, “President, it’ll take us thirteen minutes to reach the place at full speed.”

It was an hour drive from the airport to Pearl River International at regular speed.

They had been on the road for some time but the remaining journey required at least another forty minutes to reach the destination.

Matthew had done his best to push the travel to thirteen minutes.

It was a car, not a plane, after all. Despite its versatile functionality, the car could not possibly fly there.

With the reason as clear as daylight, Gideon pursed his lips without a word.

At this moment, Thomas Morton received a call from his subordinate. A furrow formed between his brows.

“Got it, I’ll ask around.”

He called Jason after hanging up.

“Jason, are you at Pearl River International today?”

Unaware of the situation, Jason answered amid bafflement, “Yes, what’s wrong?”

“Do you know which guest is in room 8828?”

“8828?” Jason was taken aback. His pupils dilated.

“I know. What happened?”

“Go take a look. I’m not sure about the details but the person inside must remain unharmed, or else our family will be done for.”

Frowning, Jason looked displeased.

“Did someone threaten you? Who could possibly intimidate you?”

Thomas’ words reeked of bitterness. “Gideon Leith, all right.”

Jason, “...”

Hit by a thought, he became blue in the face.

“I’ll go over now.”

With the call ended, Jason got up right away and grabbed his clothes to head out the door.

Before he made it to the door, he was stopped by Hayley.

“Brother, where are you going?”

Jason glowered. “I have something to attend to. Carry on with the dinner with Ms. Garrett. I’ll be right back.”

Hayley was not having it. She pouted. “No! You said you were taking us to dinner. How can you just leave halfway? Brother, I can turn a blind eye if it was before but today’s my birthday. You can’t leave no matter what.”

Jason was growing impatient.

“It’s not as though I’m not coming back. Something happened in the opposite room. Nell Jennings is still inside. I’m just going to take a look. It’s only a few steps away. I’ll be back before you know it.”

There was a slight change of expression on Hayley’s face.

All the more she came in between her brother and the door. She spoke through clenched teeth, “No, you can’t go.”

With a deepened furrow, Jason called Hayley to question.

“Hayley, did you do something behind my back?”

Hayley was ridden with guilt.

Shifting away her gaze, she patted her chest. “No. I just don’t want you to see that woman. Brother, even if you don’t consider me, you have to think about Sister Tara. What do you take Sister Tara for, going to the opposite room to see that woman? How could you do such a thing?”

Tara awkwardly smiled. “Hayley, don’t say that...”

Nevertheless, Hayley did not have time for her. She became overwhelmed with grievance, twisting the facts and convinced it to be true.

“Brother, Sister Celine is still lying in the hospital. She lost her baby and it’s all that woman’s fault! How could you still protect her? Are you a man?”

Jason’s brows were in a knot.

He let out a sigh a while later.

“Father called earlier and said that Gideon Leith threatened our family. I suspect that Nell is in trouble.”

Taken by surprise, color washed off Tara’s face.

Hayley was hot with emotions.

“What are you saying? Gideon Leith intimidated our family because of that b*tch? What’s good about her anyway? She’s just a sl*t who was ditched.

Is it even worth it for him to do that for her?”

Jason’s face stiffened.

“Hayley! What are you rambling on about?”

Hayley froze.

“Nothing happened between us during my relationship with Nell Jennings. What sl*t? Who taught you these words?”

“I...”

Tara got on her feet and held Jason by the arm.

“Mr. Morton, Hayley had a momentary loose tongue to be spewing these nonsense but I do think that it’s inappropriate for you to go over there.”

Jason frowned.

“Ms. Garrett, are you going to sit by and watch too? Although she has a sharp tongue, if anything were to happen to her...”

Tara’s expression turned numb.

“That’s not what I mean. Only...”

Tara leaned in to whisper a word or two into Jason’s ear.

Jason took on a ghastly countenance.

“Is what you’re saying true?”

Tara gave a solemn nod.

“So, you can’t go for the sake of Celine. Do you understand?”

Jason, “...”

...

It was quiet in the opposite room.

Gideon arrived ten minutes later.

The thirteen minutes journey was forcibly cut short by three minutes.

Matthew swore that he had never driven this fast in his life. With his foot on the gas pedal, the car basically flew off into the horizon.

The moment they entered Pearl River International, they were warmly received by an attendant.

“Sir, have you booked a room? Or...”

“Where’s room 8828?”

The presence of Gideon emulating Hades gave the attendant quite a jolt. He was perturbed.

“Sir, you’re...”

“I’m asking you, where’s room 8828?”

Amid Gideon's hair-raising gaze, Matthew sternly reproached, “Speak! You’re dead meat with every second of delay!”

In a quiver, the attendant snapped out of the trance.

“Take a left on the 8th floor and walk straight.”

Gideon took strides to the lift.

The lift soon landed but before the doors closed, a hand slid right in to stop the closing lift.

“Wait!”

It was a group of men gasping for air. They trembled at the sight of Gideon and Matthew.

“President Leith, you’re here.”

Gideon threw an icy look at them.

The people lowered their heads out of guilt.

They were the group entrusted by Gideon on the phone. However, they were not on duty here tonight and with the heavy traffic on the road at this hour, they scuttled here as fast as their legs could carry them.

It never crossed their mind that they would arrive too late.

Gideon eerily curled his lips and coldly remarked, “Pigs will fly before I can count on you.”

The group had their heads hung low like children given a lecture.

“Sorry, President Leith. We’re to blame.”

Gideon pursed his lips without a word.

When the party arrived on the eighth floor, Gideon was first to take quick paces out while the rest followed closely behind.

As the attendants did not recognize them, they were in shock to see a crowd barging in in an imposing manner.

One of the attendants came forth and asked, “Sir, are you...”

“Get out of the way!”

Someone shoved him out of the way. Soon, they found room 8828.

The door was locked inside. It was pin-drop silent on the other side.

Gideon stood at the door, gnashing his teeth. His handsome face was so tense, it was like a string about to snap.

Channeling frigidity through his facial expression, he ordered in a thrilling tone, “Open the door.”

It was a moment of dead air as the rest assumed the worst.
