Chapter 899
Spoiled by the President
Lizzy was naturally pretty. After all, both parents were so good looking, so no matter which of them she inherited, it would not go wrong.
However, Lizzy was still secretly paying attention to her figure.
Nell noticed that Lizzy had been secretly reducing her portion recently. Lizzy also did not like to eat meat and only chose low-calorie vegetables and fruits.
She could not help but sigh.
After all, she knew clearly that beauty was not the most important thing at Lizzyâs age. It was more important to grow taller and to nourish the body.
Thus, at every meal, Nell would put in great effort to make Lizzy eat more meat.
Lizzy saw that she could not hide, so she had to eat the meat that Nell put in her bowl.
She got curious and asked, "Mommy, whoâs Daddy talking to on the phone?"
Nell looked at her and said softly, "Children should stay out of adult matters."
Lizzy gave an "oh."
She then quickly gorged down her bowl of food and said, "I've finished eating."
Little Viemond was her little follower. As soon as his sister was done eating, he refused to eat either.
He mimicked Lizzy and put his bowl down. With his baby voice, he said, "Mama, I'm done too."
Nell looked at the big kid and the little kid, and felt a little helpless.
She took a napkin and wiped their mouths, then said, "If youâre done, then go play."
The two children cheered as if they were pardoned, and immediately ran to the playroom in the back.
Nell looked at their departing backs, lost her smile, and shook her head helplessly.
She sat alone at the dining table and looked at the table full of exquisite food, but somehow she did not have much of an appetite.
She turned around and saw that Gideon had his back to her and was still on the phone.
Nellâs eyebrows were slightly knitted.
Although Gregory did not explain what it was about on the phone earlier, her intuition told her that it must be something big.
Otherwise, someone as proud as Gregory would not be able to cooperate with Gideon.
As she considered this, her eyebrows furrowed deeper and her heart became more unsettled.
Not long after, Gideon ended the conversation.
He came back and Nell asked, "How was it? What did he want with you?"
Gideon gave her a faint glance, returned the phone to her, and said, "Letâs talk after we finish eating."
Nell choked.
She was clearly curious, but since he had said so, she did not probe further and ate her dinner obediently.
After dinner, Nell asked the nanny to watch over the two children in the playroom and when the time came, bathe and put them to sleep.
Only then did she return upstairs to her bedroom with Gideon.
As soon as he entered the bedroom, Gideon said, "Gregory asked me to work together, saying that he found out who sabotaged the plane and whoâs hunting you down."
Nell shook fiercely!
Her eyes were wide open with disbelief.
Since the plane incident and after she and Nancy had returned safely, she had sent many people over there to find out who was the mastermind that wanted them dead.
However, the batches of people she sent out one after another were all like rocks that had sunk to the bottom of the ocean. No news came back.
Later, they finally found out a little bit of information regarding the whereabouts of the killers who were chasing her.
When they arrived at the scene, they only found that those people were already dead and their bodies were almost decomposed to bones.
Obviously, they had been killed immediately after the mission failed.
These people were ruthless and acted in a very decisive and merciless manner, so it was naturally impossible for them to leave behind any leverage to use against them.
After all, the Leithsâ power was only in China, and that place was a relatively unfamiliar area. They were also busy with all sorts of things later, so even though they were still investigating the matter, it was not their priority anymore. The only thing they could do was to strengthen their security whenever they went out.
Now, Gregory told them that he had found the identities of those people?
How could this news not be surprising to Nell?
She hesitated and asked, "So what does he mean? How does he want to work with you? Who are those people?"
Gideon said in a solemn voice, "He didn't say, only that he wanted me to go over tomorrow and talk about it in person."
Nell did not even think twice and immediately vetoed it.
"No, I don't agree with you going over."
Gideon looked at her with deep eyes.
Nell said in a stern voice, "You don't know Gregory Graham. He must have some trouble he can't solve by himself if he's looking for you. The relationship between the Leiths and the Grahams is already very delicate and tense. If he's looking for you and it's really about cooperation, then that's fine. What if he's just digging a pit for you to jump into? Wouldn't you be jumping into a trap if you went like that?"
Gideon was concerned and said, "But this is a great opportunity."
He paused and added, "In this world, itâs about attacking first and not preventing an attack. Nelly, you got lucky last time when they didn't succeed.
What about next time? And the next time after that? None of us can guarantee that our luck will always be this good, so if we can really reveal that group of people, I'd be willing to do anything."
Gideon's words made Nell tremble.
She looked at his deep eyes as well as his calm but determined face, and her heart suddenly became somewhat complicated and hesitant.
"But...â
âNo more buts."
Gideon decisively said, "Don't worry, he wouldnât dare to set a trap for me. After all, the Graham family here is still under my control. Although heâs their illegitimate son and has always been very prejudiced against the Grahams, he won't let go of such a large share of the family business.
"So, he won't dare to make a move on me. The reason he called me over this time should be because we've met the same enemies.
"An enemy of an enemy is a friend. Even if it's temporary, what's wrong with being able to mutually benefit each other?"
Nell was silent.
She had to admit that Gideon's words had moved her.
Nell did not mean that Gregory would necessarily harm Gideon, but in her eyes, that man was tricky and never liked being at a disadvantage.
Why would he do them such a big favor for no reason at all?
There must be something wrong with it.
As she considered this, she frowned and said, "Fine, if you want to go, Iâll go with you."
Gideon frowned.
Nell said, "Youâre not allowed to refuse, or else neither of us will go."
Gideon wanted to persuade her.
"Nelly, you..."
"I wonât listen to any more of your logic."
Nell directly interrupted him, looked into his eyes, and added, "I also don't want to hear things like I have to see the big picture for the sake of our children or anything of that sort! Gideon Leith, weâre husband and wife. Weâll live and die as one. Everything else is not as important as your wellbeing. If thereâs really anything, I would rather stay with you than live alone in this world."
Gideon shook violently.
His heart felt as if it was suddenly hit hard by something. It felt sore yet soft.
It was heartbreakingly painful.
