Chapter 917
Spoiled by the President
Beside the man was a pear tree with a few sticks of incense on it. The smell of agarwood wafted from the incense, filling the room with a nice and earthy scent.
After the servant finished speaking, the man stopped fanning himself.
He blankly asked, âSo, all of the Chinese Associationâs territories have been split between them?â
The servant lowered their head and respectfully replied, âYes, Sir.â
As he spoke, the servant glanced at his master with confusion.
âMaster, weâre slightly confused. You clearly helped in dealing with the Chinese Association, but why...â
The man let out a small smile. That extraordinarily handsome face of his held a touch of unpredictable brilliance.
He stated, âDo I look like Iâm short of money?â
His servant paled.
They did not know just how wealthy their master was, but it was obvious he was not short of money.
The servant shook his head.
âSince we don't need it, why fight for it?â
The servant seemed to both understand and not understand at the same time.
âThen, your reason for providing aid...â
âI have my reasons.â
The man finished speaking and waved his hand to dismiss the servant. They figured it was not wise to press any further and stepped back.
After they left, the man sat there for a while until the maids came in and informed him, âSecond Old Master is here.â
The man nodded and headed out.
The empty room was decorated simply but tastefully.
When the man arrived, there was already someone else in the room.
The person was wearing a dark suit and appeared to be in his 50s or 60s. The person immediately bowed in respect when he saw the man. âSir, youâre here.â
Jeff Flinders looked straight at Louis Flinders.
Holding a string of Buddhist prayer beads and gently rubbing them, Jeff said, âTake a seat.â
Only then did Louis sit down.
It was hard to believe the publicly known patriarch of the Flinders family would actually respectfully bow down to a man who looked at least 20 years younger than him.
The two sat across each other with an antique tea set on the table in front of them.
Jeff reached out and carefully made some tea.
Louis could see that his hands were fair and slender like segments of bamboo made from white jade. They did not look like a manâs hands at all.
He almost looked mesmerized and only snapped back to reality when Jeff spoke.
âEverything in the family doing okay?â
Louis hastily replied, âAll is well. What youâve requested has been carried out and delegated. Everythingâs according to plan.â
Jeff nodded.
He lifted his hand and personally poured Louis a cup of tea.
Louis was so startled by the hospitality that he paled.
âSir, I can do it myself. How can I trouble you like this?â
Jeff smiled. âWeâre family, so it's no trouble at all.â
His words made Louis flinch. He suddenly felt unsettled deep in his heart.
While wondering why he was being treated so politely, Jeff added, âThank you for your hard work in managing the whole Flinders family all these years.â
With those words, Louis freaked out. His face paled further as he hastily stood up.
âSir, I... It hasnât been hard at all! Iâve been following your management advice to the letter. If you didnât say it, I wonât do it! I...â
He broke out in cold sweat.
Jeff thinly smiled. âI know. You don't have to be afraid. I was just asking. As long as you do a good job, I wonât have any funny ideas.â
Louis looked at him with a pale face, unsure if he was being truthful.
Jeff blankly smiled. âSit.â
The older man had no choice and sat back down. The room was now filled with an oppressively heavy atmosphere.
Louis tentatively asked, âSo... Why was I summoned, Sir? What instructions do you have for me?â
Jeff responded, âNo hurry. Have a sip of this tea first.â
His face was calm and his movements when making tea were so elegant that he looked like someone out of a painting. The entire scene looked very soothing.
Louis was left with no choice, so he lifted the cup to take a sip.
The bitterness of the tea was the first thing he tasted, followed by a sweet aftertaste. It was refreshing, to say the least.
Louisâ eyes gleamed. âThis tea is great.â
Jeff beamed, and the smile stuck a chord in his heart as if it made him truly happy.
He responded, âRussel sent it to me. Itâs the rare Drunken Sage Tea. The haul this year was minuscule, so itâs all with me. If you like it, you can take some back with you later.â
Louis was stunned but dared not reject him. âThank you very much, Sir.â
Only after finishing the tea did Jeff say, âYour help with the Chinese Associationâs collapse was well done, but not letting you claim a share of the bounty surely drew some backlash from your people, didnât it?â

ï¤Chapter 487 The End Pt. 5 Louis warily smiled. âThose underlings don't understand your thoughts. The backlash will only be temporary. When they see that you did it for the good of the family, theyâll understand.â
Jeff slightly narrowed his eyes. âBut they don't know that the person calling the shots behind the curtain is me, let alone that thereâs a person behind the curtains. How will you explain it to them?â
Louisâ face froze.
Jeff continued indifferently, âThe Flinders family tradition has been the same for 1,000 years. Every generationâs patriarch will aim to develop and expand the family in a stable direction. Power begets power, and while weâll grow, we still have limits. The Chinese Associationâs territory is too far away. Even if we claim it, it wouldnât benefit us but instead scatter our reign of power, even going as far as causing a divide in our internal structure.
Itâll inevitably cause a good family to disintegrate.â
His voice was light and gentle, making Louisâ heart falter.
Louis hastily stood up and bowed. âThank you for your help, Sir. I understand.â
Jeff lifted his cup and drank from it, continuing, âAs for why we sent you to help in dealing with the Chinese Association... Itâs because those organizations simply can't understand rules. The order of underground organizations has always been stable, but now he wants to consume all of it and unify them? Heâs biting off more than he can chew.
âOur motto has always been to be stable and orderly. We couldnât just watch from the sidelines while a mess broke out. Besides, most of the hard work has been done. We were just there as the cherry on top. It was nothing, and we got to put them in our debt. So, why not?â
Louis bowed his head even lower. âYes, Sir. Understood.â
