Chapter 921
Spoiled by the President
The next image was Vickie and Gregory all grown up, of him leaving the orphanage while she stayed behind.
He spoke in a low voice, âThe puppy love between the young man and young lady was filled with so many ups and downs. They grew up, believing that they could be together peacefully but as they grew, so did their responsibilities and commitments.
âThe young man couldnât stay by her side anymore and on that day, he left the place they grew up in together. He said to her that if she ever missed him one day, go find him.
âHe once thought about it, that perhaps she may never come and see him. Granted, she looked very reliant on him but he knew better than anymore how independent and stubborn she was.
âShe would never agree to be a wallflower that was to stay by him forever. So, he silently swore to himself that he would give himself two years. Just two years and he would settle everything and return to her.â
Then, the lights turned and the image changed again.
It was now the two of them meeting again.
His voice softened and held a warm tone to it.
âBut so many things in this world are unpredictable, and he thought she would never reappear in his life again but she did.
âThey reunited, dated, and he couldnât help but fall in love. Those few years were the happiest years of his life.
âBut one thing brooded over him. He was determined to work towards getting stronger and more powerful to protect the person he cared for.
âHowever, she was too stubborn for her own good. She didnât want his protection, neither did she want to live under his watch. She could live a peaceful life with good food and good clothes, free of worries, but she was defiant which threw herself into danger time and time again.â
âHe panicked. He was angry, enraged, and had fought with her over and over again until eventually, she was forced to leave.â
At this point, Gregoryâs voice became like a cello that had gone mute.
The image changed again, into a bloody and broken scene. This time the theme was red.
Gregoryâs voice was strained. The pain in his words was indescribable.
âThe two ended up in a situation they never expected to be in. They stood against each other, separated on different sides when they should be holding each other tightly.
âHe found out something bad and was forced to kill her siblings in arms. She hated him so much that she wished for his death.
âBut she didnât understand that the siblings she knew were all wolves in sheepâs clothing.
âThey never saw her as a true friend and everything was perfectly schemed, but the young man had no proof to show her even if he brought it up.
âAnd so, they separated for four long years. It was supposed to be a peaceful ending, like a pair of ex-lovers who were to never meet again. But he could not let her go and desperately wanted her to stay. The more he insisted the more fiercely she rebelled.
âHe was afraid. He was hesitant. He feared that the next time she rebelled she would get hurt. At the same time, he discovered that those people were hunting her down.
âRiddled with an internal and external dilemma, he had no choice but to throw her in jail for four years to protect her.â
Once again, the image changed, and it turned to Vickie getting out of jail.
âThe good thing was that she was safe and alive under his watchful eye for four years. Those years have changed how she felt about him but he didnât regret it.
âHe kept her by his side once more, hoping that they could mend bridges. He then told her the truth about everything.
âThe heavens finally granted them mercy. The young man and young lady got closer and closer after their experiences together.
âIt was at this point that he finally understood, after everything that had happened, nothing could be better than two people spending time together happily.
Vickie stood there, dazed and stunned.
She raised her head to look at the image, her eyes tearing up.
Suddenly, a low voice came from behind her.
âVickie, will you marry me?â
Vickie flinched and when she whipped her head around, she found that Gregory was already downstairs and standing behind her.
He got down on one knee, with his black suit making him look so serious and formal. In his hand was a small jewelry box with a huge and elegant-
looking pink diamond, and he looked at her earnestly.
Tears streamed down Vickieâs face.
Gregory repeated the question, full of conviction. âVickie, marry me okay?â
Nell, Janet, and everyone else who was standing not too far away from them were equally touched, and a complex feeling welled up in their hearts. It felt as if they had experienced their whole life story alongside them.
Still, Vickie did not respond immediately.
She looked at Gregory and asked softly, âThose four years, was all to protect me?â
He nodded. âYes.â
âYou knew they were trying to kill me?â
âYes.â
âWhy?â
He stared right into her eyes but said nothing more.
Vickie shook her head as tears streamed down her face.
âYou know very well what I care about the most. You also know that even when we are together thereâs a thorn deep within my heart. We don't talk about it but itâs always there. No one else is aware of it, but I know very well itâs there. So tell me Gregory, everything you did then, what was it all for?â
Gregory looked at her tear-stained face and sighed to himself.
He fell silent for a moment before saying, âThe whole thing had something to do with your birthright, Vick. Even now I still don't know the whole truth, all I see is the tip of the iceberg. With how little I knew, I didnât know how to tell you.â
Vickie was startled.
However, she listened to Gregory continue, âNo matter what, I promise you that I will never hurt you, Vick. Please, marry me. Let me protect you and care for you the rest of my life, okay?â

They started clapping and cheering, âSay yes! Say yes!â
Vickie looked at them and then back to Gregory who was kneeling there. She felt a wave of sorrow and cried harder, but behind the pain and grief was a feeling of indescribable joy.
In the end, she extended her hand to him.
She responded in a very soft voice, but it was just enough for him to hear, âI do.â
Gregoryâs face burst into shock.
Immediately, he stood up and put the ring on her finger before sweeping her into a tight hug.
He hugged her so, so tightly. She swore she heard his voice crack.
