Chapter 940

Spoiled by the President

An old man with white hair and a walking stick appeared in front of them.

He was nearly 90-years-old, and even if he was fit, he was very old. The old man had a slightly rickety back. His face was covered with deep wrinkles and as he looked up at them, his eyes were cloudy yet sharp.

"What's wrong? Something happened?"

The local guide immediately explained, "Grandpa, these people are visitors from the city and have come to see you about something. I’ll take my leave now.”

After he said that, he left in a hurry as if he had seen a ghost.

However, the old man did not pay any attention to him. He only narrowed his wrinkled eyes and looked at them sharply.

"Who are you people? Why are you looking for me?"

Gideon took a step forward and said warmly, "Grandpa, I’m Sophie Quinton's grandson. She told you before that we would come to visit you today."

Grandpa Brooks frowned at once.

After a while, he sneered. "I see. You guys came for that piece of jade, right? Okay, come on in."

The old man stepped back and let them in, but it was clear to them that he was not happy about it as his tone was unpleasant.

The group of them gave each other a look before they stepped into the house.

Nell went in last, so closed the door behind her and followed Grandpa Brooks into the living room.

"Your grandmother told me about you guys. I know you're here for that piece of jade, but I'll be honest with you, that thing isn't jade at all. I’m clear about the rumors outside, saying that it has some kind of effect to raise the dead and make you live forever."

At this point, he gave a mocking snort.

"What immortality? It's okay to fool you inexperienced young kids, but when you get to be my age, you'll understand that it's all a lie. What haven’t I seen at my age? I've seen the immortality pill alone more than ten times, but which one works? All of them are just the imagination of people who are greedy for this developing world."

Nell quickly agreed.

"Grandpa Brooks, that’s very insightful. Just from your words, I can tell that you’re an unconventional and extraordinary person."

The old man turned to look at her and sneered again.

"Little girl, don't try to suck up to me. Do you think that with a few nice words, I’ll agree to give you the Arcane Jade?"

Nell's face stiffened.

Though Gregory was calm and composed as he said, "Since you know the purpose of our visit, I won't beat around the bush, so you may as well tell us directly what it’ll take for you to give us what we need."

Unexpectedly, the old man just shook his head and waved his big hand.

"I won’t give it up."

"What?"

Nell was baffled and so was Vickie Thomas.

The four of them frowned at the same time.

Gideon explained, "Grandpa Brooks, this is useless in your hands. To be honest, we’re relying on this to save someone’s life. Please, for Grandma's sake, let us have it."

Grandpa Brooks sat down on an old wooden chair and looked at him with a sinister smile.

"What do you mean, “let you have it’? I know your grandma, but that was when I was young. We haven't seen each other for years, and now she’s the matriarch of the Leith family. She’s so high and mighty, yet who am I? I’m just a stinky old man, a nobody. How could I ever be on the same level as her?

“As for you guys, it's none of my business whether you want to live or die. Why should I save you? There are so many people dying every day in this world. If everyone relied on me to save their lives, wouldn't I be too busy and exhausted?"

From the tone of his voice, he was somewhat gloating.

As if it was because this involved Vickie's life, so it made him excited.

Gregory's eyes sank.

If Vickie did not hold him back, he would have flipped the table and snatched the item immediately.

Gregory calmed himself, and only after a while, he suppressed the rage he felt at the bottom of his heart before he said, "You don't have to say these sarcastic words to provoke us. If you have any requests, you may as well put them forward directly. If it’s within my ability, I surely won’t refuse.”

Gideon also said, “I'm also willing to agree to one of your conditions. If I can do it, I won’t refuse either."

The old man narrowed his eyes and looked at them skeptically, then turned to look at Nell and Vickie.

"What about you guys?"

Nell was stunned.

Vickie was also taken aback, and after a few glances at each other, Nell said with a smile, "Naturally, your requirements come first. If you have any requests, just say them and we’ll surely do it."

Grandpa Brooks stroked the beard on his chin, seemingly satisfied with her attitude.

He considered for a moment. "How about this? I still have a lot of clothes to wash in the back, and I think you two dolls look like hardworking people, so why don't you go and wash those clothes for me first?"

The four of them were dumbfounded as they did not expect him to make such a request.

Gideon and Gregory’s complexions were not too good. After all, this was their wives, whom they treasured dearly. They did not even allow them to wash their own clothes, yet this man wanted their beloved to help wash his clothes?

However, before the two men could object, they were interrupted by Nell and Vickie.

"Okay, no problem. We'll do it now."

After they said that, they held hands and walked to the backyard with the guidance of Grandpa Brooks.

Nell originally thought that since he was an old man, how many clothes could he have? Besides, doing laundry was not a difficult task. She just needed to put it in the washing machine, then hang it dry. Was that not simple enough?

For the sake of Vickie's illness, this was nothing.

However, when they arrived at the backyard, they realized that there were not just a few clothes.

There were a lot of clothes!

In the open space in the backyard, there were several dozen piles of clothes, which were so dirty that they looked as if they had been worn for months.

The old man pointed to the piles of clothes and said, "Just wash them before the sun sets today."

Gideon and Gregory's faces became increasingly glum, but Nell quickly said, "No problem! Where’s the washing machine?"

Grandpa Brooks, as if he heard a joke, widened his eyes and burst out in a sarcastic laugh.

"A washing machine? Girl, you're kidding me! We're in the countryside. How would we have that stuff? Besides, my clothes are made of the most precious fabrics. Can you afford to pay for them if the washing machine ruins them?

Nell was stupefied.

"You mean, you want us to wash these by hand?"

"Of course! If you don't wash it by hand, will you wash it with your feet?"

Gideon wanted to speak up, but Nell held him back.

She took a deep breath and let out a stiff smile.

"No problem! Don't worry, we’ll finish washing it before the sun sets this evening."

Grandpa Brooks nodded his head in satisfaction at her good attitude, then looked at Gregory and Gideon beside him.
