Chapter 944

Spoiled by the President

Even though Nell did not guess all of it correctly, she still got most of it right.

Was this fate?

As the old man thought of this, he sighed and became more silent as he continued to smoke his pipe drearily.

Nell scrutinized him. The silent Grandpa Brooks seemed older than before. With his whole back hunched, he actually looked a little pitiful.

After sitting for a while, she stood up.

"It’s late, so I won’t disturb your rest. Grandpa, I hope you’ll think about this carefully. I know you're not a bad person. Even if it's not for the sake of accumulating karma, this is unethical on the streets, so you can't just sit back and watch someone die. Not to mention we're also your old friend's grandchildren. I know you have secrets that might be hard for you to reveal, so I won't make it hard on you and I won’t force you. All I hope is that you really think about it and come back to us after careful consideration. If there’s anything you need help with, we won’t refuse.”

Nell then bowed slightly before turning to leave.

With that, the woman's silhouette gradually disappeared in the doorway.

As Grandpa Brooks smoked his cigarette and watched her silhouette as she left, his cloudy eyes grew red.

After a while, he laughed at himself.

"Oh, Jade... Look, she’s so much like you, so smart. What a pity!"

The old man sighed and shook his head. Eventually, he got up and went back to the bedroom.

Nell and the group had rented a farmhouse in the village and so they stayed there for the night.

At this time of night, there was nowhere to go. When they came here, they initially thought that this matter could be solved in one day and they should be able to return on the same day, so they were not prepared to stay in the village and did not bring any luggage.

Only later did they find out that this was not as simple as they thought, and there were no hotels or inns in the village.

The good thing was that the people here knew that they were rich people from the city. As long as they were willing to pay, there was no shortage of places to stay, albeit the conditions were a bit poor.

Now that it came to this, there was nothing to complain about.

The group washed up for a while before they went to sleep reluctantly.

When Nell woke up the next day, it was only 7:00 am.

There were many chickens in the village and they started to crow at 4:00 am or 5:00 am. Since Nell was not used to it, she was woken up several times. Later, Gideon covered her ears so she could sleep for a few more hours.

When she woke up, she felt dizzy.

Vickie and Gregory were no better.

Gregory was played by the old man the previous day, so he did not sleep well that night. The next morning, Nell could feel his awfully chilly aura, as if he could freeze someone within ten steps of him.

Nell laughed as she took her breakfast and walked over. She sat opposite him and Vickie, then said jokingly, "Hmm, if I hadn't looked at the weather outside, I would’ve thought it was winter already. Why is the air around me so cold?"

Vickie naturally knew what Nell was talking about. She pursed her lips and smiled, giving Nell a look.

Nell understood but she did not really care. Instead, she wanted to tease Gregory even more.

"Hey, let me ask you. What if that old man still refuses to hand over the jade today? What are you going to do?"

Gregory ate the gruel emotionlessly and said no emotion, "Tie him up and search for it!"

Nell raised her eyebrows.

She then clapped her hands together. “Good idea! Huh, how come I’ve never thought of this? He’s an old man living in such a big house. If the jade’s not on him, it must be somewhere in his house! As long as we search patiently, we’d find it eventually. Oh, Gregory, I didn’t think you’d be so great in this type of thieving approach. A normal businessman like me won’t ever come up with this idea..."

Before she could finish her words, she was greeted with Gregory’s piercing glare.

Irritated, Gregory then looked at her. "Little Seven, is your skin itching again?"

Nell's face stiffened.

Somehow, she was fine with Gregory calling her Little Seven before.

However, when she heard him calling her Little Seven just a moment ago, it was so uncomfortable that it was as if she had lice all over her body and it gave her that itching feeling.

She smiled stiffly and compensated with her words. "Okay, I was wrong, Boss Graham. Master Graham, please enjoy your meal. After you’re done, we'll think of a way to make him give us the jade."

Only then did Gregory grunt and continue with his breakfast.

They ate a simple breakfast and went back to Grandpa Brooks' villa.

Grandpa Brooks was old, so he slept less and got up early.

When the four of them arrived, the old man was practicing kungfu in the courtyard.

Even though the old man was in his nineties, an age where a normal person could not walk steadily, Grandpa Brooks could still practice his sword skills in such a vigorous and strong manner that it was very entertaining to watch.

The few of them never thought that Grandpa Brooks even had these skills. When Nell thought about Gregory’s plan earlier that morning to tie up the old man and search the house, she could not help but turn to Gregory and snickered.

Gregory naturally knew what Nell was laughing at and so he glared at her.

However, Gideon frowned and pulled Nell to his side.

Nell whispered, "What’s up?"

While Grandpa Brooks was still practicing his sword skills, Gideon made a face and asked her in a low voice, "Why are you smiling at Gregory?"

Nell was stunned and a bit confused.

"What's wrong with my smile? Is it still illegal to laugh these days?"

"Ha! Yes, it's illegal in my book."

Nell was puzzled but only then did she understand what Gideon meant.

This man must be jealous.

Nell did not know whether to laugh or cry, but at the same time, she felt as sweet as honey.

Gideon grunted lightly, which meant that he was not exactly happy with her explanation, but an explanation was better than nothing.

Nell knew that this man would get jealous at the slightest of things, and if she continued to provoke him, it would be hard to please him later. Hence, she stopped joking and focused on watching Grandpa Brooks practice his kungfu.

Although Grandpa Brooks was old, his technique was really good.

The group of them, except Nell who was subpar in kungfu, were all masters in the field.

Martial arts was something that was almost all the same. If one had mastery in any technique, even if they did not know how to do it, they could still see which technique it was just by looking at it.

They had to admit that they had underestimated Grandpa Brooks before coming here.

If the old man was 10 years younger, they might not even be a match for him.

As he thought of this, Gideon's eyes revealed a glint of respect.

After Grandpa Brooks had finished practicing a set of sword skills, Gideon was the first to applaud in appreciation.
