Chapter 975

Spoiled by the President

It was a type of sadness that Cathy could not say out loud. It was as if someone had taken away something important to her.

Sean noticed that something was off. He then asked out of concern, “Cathy, are you alright?”

Cathy shook her head. She then said with a gentle voice, “Sean, I am tired. Can you help me out? I would like to go back and rest as well.”

Sean nodded her head.

Mr. Donnelly quickly picked up the jade pendant from the table. He then passed it to Cathy and smiled. “Then, make sure to have a nice rest at the manor. We can talk about other matters later.”

Sean nodded her head and helped Cathy to leave the guest room.

...

Gideon was working overtime at the company as his day was full of meetings. After he returned home, it was already 9.00 pm.

Naturally, the kids had slept early as they had school the following day.

After Gideon had changed his shoes, he was shocked to see that Nell was not in the living room. Aunt Joyce was the only person in the living room as she was tidying the place up.

He was a little surprised.

After all, Nell would usually be waiting for him to return to the living room whenever he had to work overtime. Then, they would return to their bedroom to rest.

Where did she go?

Gideon had his doubts. He then pulled the tie on his neck as he walked towards Aunt Joyce. He asked, “Where is Missus?”

Aunt Joyce stood up and answered, “She is in the room upstairs.”

She then paused for a while. After that, she said hesitantly, “Missus seems to be in a bad mood today. Ever since she returned this afternoon, she’s locked herself in that room. She hasn’t even come out for dinner. Sir, you should check up on her as soon as possible.”

Gideon frowned. “She didn’t eat dinner?”

“Yes. We dared not disturb her. Apart from that, she even refused to see Miss Lizzy and Young Master. We really don’t know what happened to her.”

Gideon nodded his head. “Noted.”

He walked up the stairs and went towards the bedroom. The door was shut as expected.

Gideon pushed the door and realized that it was locked. As such, he had no choice but to knock on the door.

“Nelly, open the door. It’s me.”

However, it was silent.

Gideon furrowed his eyebrows and knocked on the door twice. However, there was no movement at all. He became worried and turned around to look for Aunt Joyce in the corridor. He then asked her to bring the bedroom’s key to him.

Aunt Joyce quickly looked for the key and passed it to Gideon.

Gideon waved his hand to tell Aunt Joyce to stand back. He then opened the door by using the key.

The bedroom was pitch black.

The room was so silent that you could hear a pin drop. The lights were off as well. As such, Gideon could not see a single person.

He frowned and switched on one of the chandeliers. Thanks to the dim light cast from the chandelier, he could finally see the person sitting on the sofa.

“What are you doing?”

Gideon closed the door behind him and walked towards Nell.

Nell was sitting on the sofa. She was hugging both of her knees as she buried her head in her arms.

After hearing Gideon’s voice, Nell had finally raised her head. Gideon realized that her face was as pale as a white sheet. Her tears had not dried off yet. Apart from that, her eyes were still red. It was clear that she had been crying for a long time.

His chest tightened after seeing Nell. He then quickly sat down and embraced her.

“What happened? Why are you crying? I had thought that something bad had happened when I saw that the lights were off.”

Nell did not have an ounce of strength left in her after crying for several hours. She was also tired of crying. At that moment, she felt comforted as Gideon held her in his arms. His familiar scent had managed to calm down her uneasy heart.

She adjusted her head and found a comfortable position. She leaned on his arms and said with a gentle voice, “I am fine. I am just a little tired.”

Gideon furrowed his eyebrows. He touched her forehead and realized that it was not hot. It did not seem as if she had a cold either.

“What happened?” He asked.

Nell did not answer. She replied after a while, “I met someone today.”

“Who?” Gideon was patient.

“Someone who was supposed to be dead appeared in front of me.”

Gideon was stunned.

Nell raised her head and looked at him. Her eyes were a little misty. “Gideon, am I a mean person? She didn’t owe me anything, yet I was stubborn. I wanted to get something from her. I even blamed her for not telling me that she was still alive. Tell me, am I selfish for acting like that?”

Gideon looked at her with those deep eyes of his. “Who did you meet?”

Nell moved her lips and answered after a few seconds, “Cathy Morrison.”

Gideon was shocked.

Nell laughed. “I had always thought that she was dead. When I was seventeen years old, she died in a car accident. For that matter, I had harbored hatred in my heart for so many years. I wanted to kill everyone who was involved in her death. However, I didn’t know that she was still alive until now.

“She was living a happy life with another man in the desert. She could have told me about it, but she decided to forget her past. She buried her past in the sand without leaving a single trace. But what about me?

“I have always missed the times we spent together. I would return to Jincheng to visit her grave every year. I would offer a stick of incense and a bouquet of flowers to her grave. I would pray that she could be reincarnated into a better family so that she would never have to suffer again. I prayed that she could live a peaceful and happy life. Gideon, was I stupid? She didn’t even want to think about my existence, yet I never let go of the past.”

Gideon stayed silent as he listened to Nell rambling on about her past.

Nell shook her head. “I don’t know. I feel upset, but I don’t even know why I am feeling upset.”

Gideon sighed.

He lowered his head and kissed the traces of tears on her face. He then said, “You are such a fool. She is the most important person in your life. As such, you assumed that you are the most important person in her life as well. However, she hid her identity after escaping from death. Furthermore, she chose to sever her ties with the past and refused to contact you.

“This decision has made you realize that she can continue living without you. That is why you are feeling upset. You thought that she betrayed your feelings.”

Nell raised her head and looked at Gideon blankly. “Is that so?”

Gideon nodded his head. “It should be.”

Nell thought of it for a while. She then said, “Oh, I understand now. However, am I in the wrong? After all, my actions appeared to be selfish and unreasonable.”

Gideon smiled. “Our emotions have always been unreasonable. After all, our heart is the only one that decides the correct answer.”

He paused. Then, he sighed.
