Chapter 988
Spoiled by the President
Nell suddenly had a thought and her face changed.
She suddenly knelt back down and touched the back of the deceasedâs head. She already had a theory formed in her head.
Gideon asked her, âWhatâs wrong?â
Nell shook her head. âCall the police. We need an autopsy. This isnât Auntâs fault so thereâs no fear in calling the police.â
Jean heard that and panicked.
âNelly, please, we can't call the police! Murder is illegal! If the police come, my life is over!â
Although the Leith family was very powerful, neither Gideon nor the Old Master and Old Madam would go against the law for her if she had committed murder.
Nell gave Jean a small pat on her back. âDon't worry, you didnât kill him.â
âHuh?â
Gideon was taken aback but he also began to understand what she was hinting at.
He turned to the bunch of burly men. âI assume we have no issue with calling the cops?â
The men looked back and forth at each other, the guilt in their eyes was very telling.
They roared, âAbsolutely not! What happens on the streets stays on the streets! Calling the cops? Bullsh*t! Either you pay up or this woman doesn't go anywhere. A life for a life, so don't you think any of you are leaving just like that!â
Gideonâs face turned cold at that.
Mr. Donnelly was afraid that a fight might break out, so he tried to be the peacemaker.
âAh everyone, please. Please hear me out. This really may not be Miss Leithâs fault, you never know right? Your friend got into a fight last night and it was really brutal, I just noticed that the back of his head has a huge bump and that might be what caused the blood vessels to swell. He was fine yesterday and it only triggered today which caused his death! This is possible and it had nothing to do with Miss Lieth. Besides, sheâs a weak and small girl, and your friend is a Taekwondo champion, surely a small push from her couldnât have killed him!â
The gang became even angrier at that. âWhat? Are you saying you wonât pay?â
Mr. Donnelly may have spoken up too daringly but he was still just a humble businessman.
The moment the gang intimidated him, he shrank back in fear while smiling awkwardly.
âThatâs not what I meant! Itâs just...â
âThatâs enough! Either pay through your pockets or pay with your life!â
Gideon finally understood what was happening. These thugs never wanted justice. They just wanted a nice sum of money.
Since that was all they wanted, there was no hurry.
Gideon helped Nell over to the sofa that Jean was sitting on and kept an eye on them as he spoke.
âYou want money? Fine. Bring your boss out. Iâll talk to him.â
The gang froze for a moment.
To think that Gideon Leith was still so calm in such a situation.
The men exchanged glances with suspicion in their eyes. Right then, a carefree voice came from behind them.
âSo whoâs lookinâ for me?â
The crowd parted like the red sea and a young, handsome man strode in.
The gang members who had been acting all high and mighty instantly bowed in respect, yelling, âBoss!â
The man waved them off and looked at the pair on the couch before a bright smile broke out on his face.
âDeon! Fancy seeing you here!â
Gideon also let out a playful smile.
âAhahaha! I never thought that after so many years I'd see you here again! Glad to see you!â
The man strode over and gave Gideon a bear hug.
Everyone else stared at them slack-jawed. What on earth just happened?
Gideon tried to shove him away while he laughed. âAlright, alright! I didnât think Iâd meet you here either! Besides, didnât you say you were off to do research or something?â
The two were obviously very close.
The man smiled. âSigh, itâs a long story.â
With that, he turned to his men and asked what happened. They were still dumbfounded but told him the truth.
He frowned before glancing at Gideon, then Jean, and finally the dead man.
âGet a doctor here and figure out how he died.â
The manâs face fell as if he had thought of something.
His men were so shocked, they tried to stop him. âBoss, but-â
âWhat are you waiting for?!â
The man bellowed and the others flinched. âYes, boss!â
With that, he ordered them to carry the dead man away. When the rest realized that the show was over, they scattered and resumed their previous activities.
The atmosphere that a murder had just happened vanished in the bar, leaving the blood on the floor. Everyone else continued to sing and dance as if it never happened.
The man walked over and grinned at Gideon. âThis spot is filthy. Come, weâll go somewhere else.â
He then brought them to a quiet room on the second floor.
It was hard to believe that a dirty bar had such a large VIP room on the upper floor.
One end of the room was a door and a wall, and the other end was an aerial garden made out of glass. It looked like a small piece of paradise.
He ushered them in and grinned. âDon't laugh but this is my own little resting spot that I made. Itâs too noisy down there, even I can't stand it!â
Once the door closed, all the noise vanished. There was just silence.

They nodded.
Gideon walked around the room once before he turned to look at the man.
âWell then, why are you here? I remember that years back you followed our senior into a research group. How did you end up here?â
The man was still smiling. âNo rush. Take a seat. Iâll bring tea.â
He ushered them to the couch in the small garden and personally went to brew tea.
Based on his tea brewing skills alone, Jean whispered curiously, âGideon, who is this? A friend of yours?â
Gideon quietly replied, âHis name is Benedict Canterwich. Heâs an old classmate and friend of mine. I was in commerce while he was a postgraduate in science. Itâs been years since weâve met.â
Jean froze. âA science postgraduate? That means heâs a genius! Then why...â
Even Jean knew the man was a genius, so nothing more needed to be said on that front.
However, Gideon frowned slightly as he thought of this.
