Chapter 996
Spoiled by the President
His words befell the room with silence.
Gregory appeared to be grimacing. As a matter of fact, even though he had promised Jeff to find the Arcane Jade for him in exchange for the medicine to inhibit Vickieâs illness, he had never fully given up on seeking an alternative to save her.
However, Sean just made the very last hope he had to go up in smoke.
Now, Gregory only realized that Vickieâs illness was not that simple. Adopting a sullen look, he asked, âMr. Miller, do you know the origins of these cells?â
He wondered if perhaps finding the source could possibly lead him to a solution.
Nevertheless, Sean shook his head. âYouâll have to ask the Flinders family if you wish to know the origins. This is their familyâs hereditary disease, and one will have it as long as they carry the familyâs bloodline. The details date back, and Iâm afraid, they date back to a very long time ago.â
He then sighed.
Gregory was in a daze and it took a while before he nodded. âAlright, I understand.â
He turned to glance at Vickie. Their eyes met mid-air, bearing a sense of longing and heartache visible only to them.
Gregory felt sorry for the tormenting pain she had to endure while Vickieâs heart went out to him for toiling about because of her illness. She smiled faintly.
âMr. Miller, thank you. We got it.â With that, Vickie got up.
Feeling down, Nell went ahead to hold her hand. âDonât be sad. Isnât there a way? At worst, you can take the medicine. Look at Louis and all the other people in the Flinders family. Didnât they turn out okay and live to their old age? Jeff said it himself. You will be fine if you keep taking the medicine.â
Vickie nodded.
Although Gregory and Vickie were aware that Nell was speaking the truth, they had to admit that as long as Vickie was on that drug, they would forever be at the mercy of others. They were afraid that their only choice was to comply with Jeff, regardless of his demands in the future.
This was not something Gregory or Vickie would want to succumb to.
Just then, Nellâs eyes lit up. âOh, right, Uncle Miller, are you proficient in pharmaceuticals?â
Sean took a glance at her and scoffed, âWhat do you think?â
âHow about this? Vickie is in need of a drug to keep her health in check, but this drug is only accessible to the Flinders. Theyâll be under the thumb of the Flinders if they have to get the medicine from the family in the long run. Can you help out to check on the contents of the drug? And, of course, it would be great if you could replicate it,â Nell replied with a smile.
This gave Vickie and Gregory a new idea. The couple looked at Sean with expectant eyes.
However, Sean looked upset. In fact, he would not even bother due to the fact she was of the Flinders family if it were not because of Nell and Cathy.
With that in mind, he turned black in complexion as he posed a question to Vickie, âThey will give you the medicine as long as you help your family do their bidding. Why would you make that request of me?â
His tone was filled with grievance.
Vickie was taken aback. She was not stupid, so she could immediately read between the lines. Confused, she said, âMr. Miller, you seem to have something to say about the Flinders. Might I ask you if you have a problem with them?â
Sean coldly responded, âItâs not really a problem, but I really donât like the way you Flinders work. What good can come out of a family that toys with lives?â
Vickie finally discerned that he held a grudge against the Flinders family.
Nonetheless, Sean was in the dark about the dispute between her and the Flinders. He only grouped her as part of the Flinders family based on the observation of this illness.
She grinned. âMr. Miller, I think you have misunderstood. I may have the Flinders blood in me, but Iâm not the same kind of people they are.â
Pursing her lips, she began to narrate how she discovered she was from that family and the threat that she received.
If one was asking for help, they must have the right attitude to show for it. Vickie was not stupid and she was not going to pretend to be lofty. She knew that if there was anyone who could replicate the pill in this world, Sean was one of them.
She had carefully thought about it before. There were so many members in the Flinders family, and with such a high volume of drugs required, it was impossible to keep a supply at hand. There must be someone responsible for making the pills.
If one person was capable of making this drug in this world, there must be another to follow. They could not just put all their hopes on one person.
Vickie solemnly answered, âSimilar to you, Iâm against the Flinders family. However, my life is in their hands so much, so I have to sham civility with them for now. Weâll be able to break free from their control if you could help me with this problem.â
Sean stared into her eyes. âYou say that your father abandoned the family?â
Vickie nodded. âYes.â
âWhat proof do you have to testify to your story?â
Her chest tightened.
Proof? What proof would she have?
The father whom she never met was dead, and her mother had died too, leaving her all alone in this world.
She would not even know this familyâs blood was running through her veins if Shimon had not come looking for her. She frowned.
Unable to standby and watch, Nell spoke up, âUncle Miller, trust Vickie. I can vouch for her that every word sheâs said is true.â
Cathy chimed in, âYes, Sean. Saving a personâs life will bring you to heaven. Just help her out. Miss Thomas must be a good person since she looks friendly. She wonât lie to us.â
Gregory solemnly added, âMr. Miller, if you can help, I will give you my word with anything you ask for.â
Sean took a fleeting glance at him. He pretentiously scoffed. âYouâre talking as if Iâm seeking some sort of compensation from you in return.â
Gregoryâs chest tightened at his words.
Nell, on the other hand, was overjoyed. With these words, she understood that Sean agreed to help. She grinned. âUncle Miller, we leave it to you then.â
With that, she turned around to have Vickie to take the drug out.
Afraid that Vickieâs illness might recur out of the blue, Gregory always had her stock up two pills on her. At present, she still carried one more pill. She took out the drug. With the tiny pill paced in a small box, it was obvious to see how precious it was to them.
Retrieving the box, Sean opened it up for a look and saw a golden pill. He drew it near his nose for a whiff and furrowed his brows.
The group of people nervously watched as they looked forward to an answer.
