-Jesse's POV-
'So you're telling me-' I took a sip of my sprite before I continued.
'That you've never, in your life, tried it?'
'Nope' He shrugged, taking a bite of his burger.
'Really?' I gasped, throwing my drink halfway down the wrong pipe.
I chocked a little, before being able to swallow properly.
'Yes really, why is that so hard to believe?' He laughed, slurping his Pepsi.
A sip of my Sprite was taken from the bottom of the paper cup, making a louder sound than intended.
I could almost imagine my mother scolding me for improper manners.
Christan threw his head back in laughter, before slurping his again, trying to be louder.
I looked up at him and blinked twice.
Dad used to do that.
I shook my head a little, shaking the thought out of me. I averted back to the previous question.
'I dont know, I kind of put you down as that kind of person' I said.
I decided against my drink, and picked up a fry instead.
'What kind of person is that?' He raised an eyebrow as he leaned over the table.
'The type of popular person who goes to mall every weekend to the arcade in the cinema to play air hockey' I said, not adding the extra part of the image filling my mind.
Surely, if he did, he would go to the movies with one different girl everytime. It wouldnt be anyone special, most likely a blonde bimbo, being cliche and doing all the necessary moves (Like fake yawning so he can wrap his arm around her) to get her in his bed after.
Typical player.
Just the thought of him kissing a blonde bimbo at the back of the theatre made me want to rip her bleached blonde hair from her head one by one, and dip her into a pit of acid while she screamed for mercy, although she was just a figment of my now bad imagination.
Christan clicked his fingers infront of my face, snapping me out of the ruthless scenario I was creating in my head.
'Huh?' I automatically replied, looking up at him.
'I didn't say anything, you just went silent for a few moments and looked like you were imagining something involving a bloody murder' He looked at me expectantly to elaborate.
I couldn't let him know I was murdering his "girl for the night".
So my brilliant reply was:
'Yeah uh... have you ever tried having a sugar eating contest?'
The packets of sugar was the first thing my eyes landed on.
He looked confused for a moment, before a smirk crossed his lips.
'Nice cover up' He said, before walking back to the ordering counter.
His request for "loads of packs of sugar" made the lady at the counter look at him like he was on crack. I wasn't paying attention to the rest of their conversation, because I decided to actually finish my meal before I had tons of sugar in my system.
Christan came back with perfect timing, th moment I slurped my last sip of fizzy drink, dumping a crap load of packets of sugar on the table.
He started counting, sorting out the sugar packets in half as he mumbled the numbers out loud. I couldn't help but smile at how he couldn't seem to count in his head. He halved the packets of sugar, leaving an odd one that wouldn't go in either pile.
'So here's the deal' He started, looking up at me.
'Eat all, as fast as you can, loser has to pay for all the arcade games we play on 3' He said.
I take it were going to the arcade after this. Yes, there is an arcade at the airport. What can I say? People get bored.
'Oh its on pretty boy' I smirked, taking my first sugar packet out of 22 into my hands.
'One-' He started, taking his first packet in his hands.
I followed his actions.
'Twwwwoooo-' I dragged out, both of us ripping open our packets at the same time.
'Three!' We both exclaimed, starting to throw the sugar into our mouths.
Literally.
I filled half my mouth with sugar, which was about 7 packets, before chewing it and swallowing. I could feel myself getting sugar high already.
'Shit!' Christan exclaimed.
I looked up and saw his hair covered with granules of white sugar. I burst out laughing, trying to recollect myself quickly to stuff more of the now sickly sweet stuff in my mouth.
I ripped open my last packet just as Christan ripped open his. He looked up at me, panic evident in his eyes.
He jumped up, literally sliding across the table and tackling me to the floor. I fell backwards, my fall broken my Christan spinning us around in the nick of time so I landed on top of him.
He then spun us around so his body was pressed against mine, my back against the tiles, not to mention grabbing the packet of sugar from my hands. He did this so fast I didn't have time to scream.
He kept me pinned down, throwing my packet of sugar into his mouth. I struggled against his grip, trying to grab it before he did, but he simply threw the packet to the side of him, our eyes locking.
'I win' Chistan's whisper was deep, husky.
I felt my head feeling a bit dizzy after it. We stayed like that for what felt like forever, until I heard the woman behind the counter started laughing.
Its like I had no inner strength around him, like he weakened me. Everytime we're like this, something always snaps me out of it. That's what I mean by no strength. I can't even snap myself out of it. He truly did weaken me, seeming to have full control when doing it.
Maybe its time to do some experimenting, see my capabilities.
I placed my hands at the back of his head, pulling his face closer to mine.
'You cheated' I whispered beside his ear, his entire frame suddenly freezing.
'And cheaters have to pay up' I ran my hands through his hair, sugar falling on my face.
I licked my lips, dissolving the sugar in my mouth, his eyes darkening infront of me.
'Wh-what are you.. what are you doing?' He spoke in a deep voice, as deep as a growl.
Now its that feeling in my chest. That makes me want him.
I ran my fingers down his face, resting them on his cheeks. You wont believe how good his face was structured. I could feel my conscience slip away from me as I circulated my thumb across his strong cheekbones.
I held onto my last strand of sanity, and moved my lips closer to his ear.
'Proving a point'
And with that my hands whipped down to his chest and pushed him off me. He landed beside me with an "Oomph", making laughter erupt through my throat. Christan looked up at me confused, but then with a frown.
I stopped my laughter, putting on a pout.
'Awww, don't frown pretty boy! You look more pretty without it' I cooed.
His deeper frown made me laugh even harder.
'I will get you back for this'
*
'Im not paying' He crossed his arms stubbornly.
'You lost!-'
'Cheating wasn't made clear to be unacceptable in the rules so no. I didn't.'
'It's a perfectly valid rule spoken or unspok-'
'Excuse me ma'am, could you and you're boyfriend please either make a decision or let me go ahead? My flight leaves in 20 minutes, and I'm in a bit of a rush' I spun round to see a man with a pleading look on his face.
'Sorry sir, just a moment if I may' I apologized, giving him a small polite smile before spinning back round to glare at Christan.
He had a smug look on his face as I reluctantly shoved my eftpos card in the ATM.
'And I thought guys were meant to pay for stuff on dates' I mumbled to myself subconsciously, watching the notes flip out of the machine.
'Puh-lease! I am not that cheap! This does not count as a date' Christan exclaimed suddenly.
The emphasis and volume of his voice made me jump a little, because I was used to him acting like a stubborn child for the past 10 minutes.
His tone completely wrote out the term "Like an American Black woman", or in other words, Joey Graceffa. k
(A/N if you don't know, Joey Graceffa is a Youtuber. He's amazing and hillarious, you should go watch some of his stuff. He's literally called JoeyGraceffa)
Wait.
Did he want to go out on a date with me? Was I that horrible? Is my breath bad?-
Stick to the situation Jess. Just because he makes you think like you shouldn't, doesn't mean you have to let it.
This isn't a date. Its waiting for our parents. I should be avoiding Christan like he's an athletes foot after playing a game without socks, and shouldn't care who he wanted to date.
Right. Right?
Sad thing is he read my mind.
'Dont fret beautiful, there will be a proper one sooner than you know it. This can count if you want it to though' He winked, as I took the money that had been deposited from my account to me.
It was in notes, we would convert them to tokens at the arcade.
'You know that's not what I meant' I frowned, stuffing the money in his hands.
Arse. Jerk. Some other colourful words that should not be spoken aloud anywhere near your grandmother or you'll earn yourself wack across the head.
As soon as we left, the man behind us almost jumped to the ATM, tapping the buttons rapidly, before he sprinted ahead of us across the terminal.
Wow. I guess he really was in a hurry.
Christan and I walked through the doors at the brilliantly lit up arcade, the blue lights creating the feel of the place. There were quite a range of games as far as I could see. Claw games, shooting games, racing games but best of all, air hockey.
'We have about 2 hours left' Christan noted, shoving his phone back in his pocket.
If there's one thing I've noticed about him that doesn't relate to how good looking he is, if anything, is that he is alot like me. We both keep our phones in our right back pocket, easy to fall out. When it does fall out though, we eventually find it. It is our source of time, and I think both of us would be lost without it.
I'm not sure if he named his, but I named my phone Tyler.
When I get a car, it'll be my new prized possession, hence the name Tyler will go to him.
We walked up to the counter to buy our tokens with MY money, although it should technically be Christan who's paying.
'Pack of 10, 20, 30- Sorry I'm rambling, I think you get my point' A boy popped out from behind the counter, pushing his glasses futher to his face.
That blonde hair and green eyes behind the Harry Potter glasses, the cute features, reminded me so much of Jason.
Hell, I would've thought he was Jason if it wasn't for his eyes. They were a duller green, where as Jason's were always sparkling.
How have I not thought about Jason this whole day? He's my best fr- boyfriend! Here I was, teasing and laughing with Christan!
Guilty is charged.
'Pack of 30 please' Christan said.
I directed a smile at the boy, who immediately smiled back at me, sliding the pack of thirty on the table.
'That'll be 30 pounds sir' He said, his smile slightly faltering when he looked at Christan.
Admittedly, he was slightly intimidating. He had power radiating off him. Somehow though, I just couldn't feel it as much. Its like he was on the same level as me.
I looked at the boy again, wondering how he could feel- Right. Of course, he's a wolf.
'Someone isn't exactly being a gentleman today. Here' I pulled out the cash from the back pocket of my jeans, putting it on the table.
The boy frowned, before sliding the money back to me.
I looked at him in confusion.
'What are you doing?'
'Someone's got to be a gentleman, right? ' He smiled.
'No what? Why? I couldnt-' I started protesting, before he cut me off.
'It'll be paid off if you let me take you out sometime' He said quickly, a bit nervously too.
'I uh.. I have a boyfriend sorry' I said, sliding the money back to him.
'Well its obviously not him because you haven't mated' His eyes gestured to where Christan should have been standing.
Should have been.
'It is someone else though, and I promise that isn't an excuse' I said sincerely, my eyes behind me.
I scanned the area, trying to catch sight of him.
'Fine, as friends then?'
He looled sincere, the whole look of flirting disappearing from his eyes, replaced with a warm, friendly look instead. What harm can making a new friend be?
'Okay.. but I still get to pay' I said, pushing the money towards him.
'No, you dont'
'25 bucks at least?'
'No'
'20?'
'No, 10'
'18 is my last offer, take it or leave it' I said, slapping the money on the table.
'Fine, here's my number. Call me maybe' He smiled, handing me a slip of paper.
I pulled out my phone, opening the back cover and sliding the slip of paper inside, before closing it.
I looked up and gave him a quick smile.
'As long as you don't quote another Carly Rae Jepsen song' I smirked, spinning on my heel.
I started looking for Christan, walking almost everywhere. I then resorted to yelling, because I really couldn't find him.
'Chris! Chrissy! Jerkface! Christ descendant with a tan where are you?! I hope you dont usually leave girls like this because that is utterly demeaning!! CHRISTAN YOU MOFO WHERE ARE-'
My back was against the wall, a figure towered over me. His body pushed against mine, the feeling like I've only felt once before.
'You know I'm starting to think this position is becoming a known thing. Its not really for me ya know?' I said, trying to push out of his grasp.
His hands brought themselves on mine, holding me in place.
'Say it again' His full Alpha tone was being used, which left me feeling powerless.
The effect he had on me was knee melting.
'S-say what a-again' I managed to stutter out.
'My name, say it' He growled. He was so goddamn sexy when he was mad.
'I uh.. why?' I was nervous, scared, melted, and worst of all, found myself wanting him. Badly. Like now.
'It sounds so sexy coming from you. MY mate' His voice was low, deep and raspy.
My heart pounded in my chest at triple speed.
I couldn't comprehend what was going on.
All I could feel was his breath mixed with mine, his touch, him.
'Eww I dont want to catch any cooties! Can you please move a little so I can get the game?'
She was only about an inch taller than his knee, her tiny hands gesturing to the Hello Kitty claw machine we were blocking with our entangled bodies. She looked about 4 or 5 years old.
I snapped out of my daze, and realized if I pushed Christan's arms a little and ducked undrr them I would be out of hus grip. I did so, and knelt in front of the little human girl.
'Im sorry sweetheart. But thankyou, because he was being a big meanie' I pointed to Christan, over exaggerating slightly.
He chuckled, as I looked back at the girl.
'Are you gon be okay?' She asked.
She looked deeply concerned, glaring at Christan behind me.
'Yeah, I'll be fine' I chuckled a little.
'What's your name sweetheart?' Her eyes reverted to her shoes.
'Valerie' She mumbled.
Any human wouldnt have heard her, she was that quiet.
'Well Valerie, how about we make the meanie get you a big Hello Kitty toy?' I asked. Her eyes shot up to mine, a grin spreading across her lips.
Her eyes lit up as she nodded furiously, her chocolate brown curls bouncing up and down. I internally gushed at how cute she was, while standing up to look at Christan.
'Come on meanie' I nudged him slightly, gesturing to the claw machine.
He looked at the machine like it was the devil himself, mixed with his worst nightmare.
That, is the look of a childhood fear.
'Oh? The big meanie is afraid of a small machine?' I held in my laughter, trying to keep up my act.
'No' He squeaked.
That was it for me. I burst out laughing.
He was afraid of claw machines! That's so cute!
'I was young and I watched Toy Story and I feel sorry for any toys that get pulled out of that machine cause it could be Buzz or Woody and Sid always scared me and it just always looked so scary and-' I clamped my hand over his mouth, stopping his nervous rambling.
'Calm down, I'll do it. But remind me to watch 3 with you some time' I let a small smile on my lips.
He eased up, the tense look leaving his eyes.
I pulled my hand away from his mouth, not really wanting to because of his oh so soft yet slightly chapped lips, but I forced myself.
What kind of person puts their hand on someone's mouth because their lips are nice to touch?
I ripped 2 tickets from the group of 30, inserting them in the machine.
It whirred to life, the classic arcade music dancing in my ears.
I smiled, remembering how many times my family would go out shopping.
Eventually Dad, my brother and I would get bored and convince mum to stop shopping and let us go to the arcade. She always gave in if we bought her a new lipstick or something.
Christan whimpered slightly beside me as I started moving the claw, while Valerie glued her face to the side of the see through hardened plastic watching the claw's every move.
I wasn't sure whether to comfort Christan and calm him down, or coo and giggle at Valerie's smushed face against the rectangle machine.
After hovering the claw over a giant pink dressed Hello Kitty, I checked both sides of the glass for an all-angle advantage. With that, I pushed my hand down on the big red button, the claw reaching down and pulling up my target.
I watched in anticipation, hoping the giant Hello Kitty plush doll wouldn't fall out of the claw's grip. It finally reached the hole, and the claw let go of it's grip, the huge soft toy plummeting into it.
'Yay!' Valerie shrieked, pulling the huge plush toy from the flap and hugging it tightly.
I suddenly felt tiny hands being wrapped around my lower stomach. I looked down and smiled at her. My arms lifted her tiny frame up, hugging her back.
'Thank you' She said softly.
'Your more than welcome sweetheart' I whispered, pressing my lips to her chubby little cheeks.
'I wish you was my mummy' She mumbled into my shoulder.
She.. she what?
I don't know why, but something in me snapped in that moment. I suddenly felt attached to her, a bond of somewhat, like she was my little girl. Even though I had only known her for less than 10 minutes, I never wanted to let her go. I had completely fallen in love with her.
But she has parents, a family. Doesn't she? I couldn't just take her away, like she was an object. She deserved so much more. Besides, I bet her parents love her as I do, probably a whole lot more. Who wouldn't?
'Sweetheart, I think we should be getting you back to your mummy and daddy' Christan said behind me, snapping me out of my daze with this little girl.
I almost screamed out no. I scolded myself, explaining to my feelings that she wasn't my daughter. She already had a home and a family, but apparently my feelings were incapable of accepting that.
I cleared my throat.
'Yeah.. uh, do you know where they are?' I said reluctantly. She pulled her head up from my shoulder, looking at me before answering.
'Mummy told me I was being a pain in her ass and that I should go away forever. Then she gave me money and told me go so I came to here' She said it so innocently, like she was repeating everything her mother said.
She sounded like she didn't know what her mother meant at all.
I gasped as did Christan, both of us looking at Valerie with wide eyes.
'But surely, your mum didn't say that?' Christan asked in shock.
My only concern was her now, as I think was Christan's.
'She did, and others but my head was too dizzy'
Wait, why was she dizzy? Did her mum hit her or something?
'Come on Valerie, we're taking you home' Christan said sternly.
I nodded in agreement, following him out of the arcade.
Christan was pretty mad, so mad that he started aimlessly walking out of the airport. I doubt he knows where he's going.
'Christan!' I yelled, trying to catch up to him.
It was hard, considering Valerie was in my arms. She was actually as light as a feather, but its harder to run when you can't move that well.
I caught up to him, placing my free hand on his shoulder. He stopped in his tracks, before I turned him around to face me.
'Getting mad wont make anything better alright? We'll go to Valerie's place and see what's going on. Besides, you can't really cool off any steam if you go the wrong way' I said matter-of-factly.
He met my eyes, a smile curling on his lips.
'Only you' He chuckled softly, butterflies erupting in my stomach.
A blush rose visibly on my cheeks, my vision falling to my shoes.
Oh look at that, they're so dirty! I need to clean them, maybe it was stepping in that muddy puddle or-
'Its amazing how fast you can change topics' He laughed, as I silently cursed.
Stupid mind link.
'Yeah yeah, now sweetheart where are we off to? Do you know the way?' I asked Valerie. She nodded.
She's so sweet when she nods, her bouncy curls have become my source of smiling for that past 10 minutes.
Valerie directed us to her flat, which was actually a very long walk away. She didn't let me carry her for long, and Christan came up with the idea of swinging her while we walked between the two of us.
She was enjoying herself so much. Just to see her squealing with happiness put a smile on my face.
Around half an hour and three wrong turns later, the three of us were pretty tired of walking, and stopped at a series of shops.
We went into the bakery and bought Valerie a gingerbread man, Christan and I sneaking a bit of food as well.
I watched as she gobbled down the tiny chocolate coated man, like she hadn't eaten in days.
Did this have anything to do with her parents? How could they send their daughter so far away by themselves? Did they even know she was here? Well of course not if she's with us but..
Is it possible for a parent to not be concerned about their child!?!
If she were my daughter, I wouldn't even let her cross the street without me holding her hand.
'My best guess is, I'm not the only one attached to her' Christan whispered beside my ear.
I nodded, sighing. I mean, who couldn't? Valerie slurped her drink loudly. A smile rose on my face at the sight of the small blush on her cheeks.
'She's a cute little one, a little mash of you both' I looked up to see an elderly woman, a man who I assumed was her partner behind her.
'Oh no, she's not-'
'Oh no need to hide it honey, its obvious she's yours. Its okay, no judgements passed. My first one came when I was 17' The older man chuckled.
I went bright red.
The elderly woman smacked his shoulder lightly, saying
'Dont embarrass the poor girl'
I took another glance at Valerie and realised they were right to think what they were. She almost looked like a 'mash of us both' as the woman put it.
Valerie had the same dark, yet chocolately brown eyes as Christan, along with his nose tanned skin. She had a lighter shade of brown hair than me, but they fell down in the same curls. Her's were just more bouncy.
Her lips matched mine, they weren't thin, but quite thick and a pretty pinkish colour. Her eyebrows also matched mine, thick yet not bushy or thin. They were perfect, just like her.
'Wow..' I trailed off.
If Christan and I had children, would they look like this? So beautiful?
And now I'm thinking about having kids with him.
...Great.
I shook myself out of those thoughts, looking back up at the elderly couple. I caught the man whispering something in Christan's ear, which I couldn't help but listen in to.
'Dont let her go, she's a keeper' Christan laughed a little, before replying.
'Youre not the first to tell me' He chuckled.
'But I wont. Ill never let her go, she's my one and only'
I stopped listening at that point, regretting my noseyness.
All three of us was more "refreshed" when we were done, having learnt more about Valerie.
Her age, hobbies, birthday, things like that. We made a few more wrong turns but eventually reached the house Valerie had directed us to. I admit she's no GPS, but she's 4 years old for god's sake!
Christan placed Valerie down inbetween the two of us at her doorstep. He looked extremely nervous. Maybe its because he held no real power over these people, they're humans.
I took my hand in his, squeezing it lightly in reassurance. He looked up from his shoes smiled, my heart fluttering as cheesy as it sounds. Valerie put both her hands on ours, my eyes averting to smile at her. Christan took a deep breath, before knocking on the door.
All was silent for about 10 seconds, before a grunt came from the other side of the door.
The only thing running through my mind right now was panic.
And maul.
And rape.
The door opened, my hand tightened around Christan's. A woman looked at us with bloodshot dark eyes and messed up dirty blonde hair, the smell of alcohol radiating off her.
Surely, we've got the wrong place?
'Oh great, you found the little whore. Hey Brad! Guess who came back?' She yelled to the flat inside.
Her tone was sarcastic and rhetorical, like she didn't want her home at all. A male voice groaned loudly from inside, a couple of seconds passing before he appeared at the door too. With papers in his hands.
'Who are you?' He spat out, making Christan clear his throat nervously.
'Im Christan sir, Drake. We found Valerie at the arcade and thought we would bring her-'
'So you two are good with favours yeah?' The woman interrupted him.
'Um.. yeah I guess?' I answered, confused.
'Do us another favour, and go drop her at some Foster home or something. Just get her away from us. We've already signed' The man said.
And suddenly papers were in my hand and the door was shut.
Adoption papers. They were adoption papers.
'I.. uh..' I looked at Christan for help.
He looked as clueless as I was.
'Um.. how about we go back to the bakery for a bit?' Christan suggested, as I nodded.
*
'What should we do?' I asked in a hushed tone, gesturing to the papers on the table.
'I don't know, but we can't just dump her at some Foster home' Christan said.
I nodded in agreement.
We looked over at Valerie, who was wide eyed as she played Fruit Ninja on Christan's phone.
'You don't think we could...?' I trailed off, looking up at Christan.
'Could we? Are we too young?'
'Well it does say 16+'
'I always thought it was 18'
'I guess they really didn't want her, they must've somehow gotten it a lower age'
'I don't understand why'
'Oh trust me, I've been asking myself the same thing all day'
I let out a long sigh.
'Should we? I mean could we?'
'We could, but would it be us or...?'
'Well you are my mate'
'We are not mates'
'Yes, we are'
'No, we're not'
'Deny it all you want babe, but eventually you'll be mine'Â Christan smirked.
I rolled my eyes at him.
'Lets just put your cockiness aside for now and think about the little girl infront of us who doesn't have a home?'
'Okay. Since its going to be us-'
'Stuff thinking, lets do it'
'Really?'
'Both of us have already fallen in love with her, so why the hell not?'
'Together. She'll be ours' He said.
He pulled out a pen from his jean pocket, like the prepared To-Be-Alpha he is.
'Dont go getting any ideas, this is only for Valerie' I said, making his smile falter a bit.
He immediately hid his hurt, making me feel awful for hurting him.
And then there was an uncomfortable silence.
'Wow, they've filled in all the details. They even got their bit signed with a lawyer present' He changed the subject while flipping through the papers of the document.
'Probably one of their drunk lawyer friends. I can just imagine the three laughing about it over a couple of shots' I said, a bit of venom in my tone.
'Seems like it. Their "lawyer" signed, stating the he or she was present when WE supposedly signed these papers. Looking around.. I don't really see any lawyer' Christan joked, bringing a smile to my face.
'Hey sweetheart?'
'Yes?' Valerie asked, politely turning the phone off and placing it neatly on her jeans.
Those jeans looked like she had worn them countless times, along with the plain black t-shirt.
'How would you like to come home with Christan and me? And live with us?' I asked.
Her eyes widened in shock.
'You sure? My mum said I was a pain and I dont want to-'
'Valerie, were absolutely positively uprightedly goodly happily sure as sure can possibly be' Christan said in a dead serious tone.
She raised her eyebrows at him, like I often do.
"Really?" Her expression seemed to say, in a sarcastic way.
They looked at each other like that for a second, before they both burst out laughing.
'You used so much of big words but they were so silly!' Valerie giggled, trying to contain her laughter in her hand.
'But really? You would let me?' She asked seriously after she finished laughing.
'Of course!' I said.
She squealed, running around the table and wrapping her tiny arms around us both.
Both Christan and I signed the adoption papers, as the new legal guardians. Not a single worry crossed my mind, and there were many to face.
Like how everyone would react.
What this will mean for my relationship with Christan.
Mate bonds grow stronger with children, and although Valerie isn't technically ours, she is ours mentally. That's all that counts.
The fact that she's a human, and knows nothing of the supernatural world.
But currently, I didn't care.
Valerie was officially our very own Valerie Hunter Drake... that's all I cared about.
The only worry that crossed my mind once we started walking back to the airport, was the fact that we had forgotten all about our parents.
We ran back to the airport to find their flight landed more than an hour before, the car gone.
The only thing left behind was a note on the signpost beside the space Christan had parked in.
Enjoy the bus ride home kids! Xx - Mum and Dad
*
Valerie had marked her place between the two of us, each one of us holding one of her hands. I had the house key, and had left it in the car, so we had to knock.
That was the scary bit, showing up with a child at my mothers doorstep.
Sounded more like The Secret Life Of The American Teenager if you ask me.
The door opened to my mother and Theodore, double taking at the sight of Valerie. I spoke up first.
'Um... Hi'
