Chapter 13

My Stepbrother, My Mate

SHOUTOUT TO xXSweetLullabyXx !! For being the reader that actually bothered reading the authors note and answered polietly!! You are now my favourite reader!

I personally am from New Zealand. Yup, the little island beside Australia.

And enough about stalking me guys. I'm not that interesting..

QUESTION:

If you could eat only one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OH AND GUYS. If you're reading this book, do NOT read Accidentally In Love. Its unedited, a fanfic, my writing is horrible there and it just ain't worth it. So please dont. I'm warning you now.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-Jesse's POV-

'Honey! I'm home!' I yelled out to noone in particular upon opening the door.

'In the kitchen sweetie!' Kaitlyn yelled from the kitchen presumably.

I went to the kitchen, amused to see how this would turn out.

'What? Kaitlyn? You're cheating on me?' An unfamiliar voice exagguratedly gasped as I walked through the doorframe.

I hadn't seen him in a while.

'Kaitlyn? We've been married for 30 years!' I exclaimed in fake shock.

'You can't tell me you're cheating with this guy!' I gestured to Luke, her mate.

Kaitlyn walked up to me, sadness plastered over her face.

'Im sorry Jess. Its been a good 30 years but lately I've just.. been feeling lonely. You're never at home, and when you are you're not with me. Luke has.. Luke makes me feel alive again. I'm sorry.'

'Wow. I actually believed that for a second' I said in shock. She was a great actress.

'Yeah, I know. Im amazing' She flipped her hair, making me laugh.

'Yup, she's all yours Luke. Too vain for my liking' I said.

Luke pulled on her hand on brought her to his chest, pecking her on the nose. He whispered something in her ear that made her giggle softly.

It was so cute that I felt a little jealous. I know I'll never have that with my mate.

'What is this I hear about my boyfriend being cheated on?? Why is she not being cheated on by me!' Vanessa's voice rang from upstairs.

Before I knew it she had her hands on her hips at the kitchen entrance, raising her eyebrow at me. But she wasn't as great as Kaitlyn, because you could tell she was trying to hold in her laughter.

'But I'm your boyfriend!' Nicholas whined playfully, grabbing her by the hips.

'Yeesh. Women' I rolled my eyes.

I opened the cupboard, my eyes roaming the premises until I spotted something edible. I grabbed the pack of Oreo's, waving goodbye to everyone before heading upstairs.

I needed a shower, maybe I would play Fruit Ninja for a while, a bit of Facebook, then drop off to bed.

'Missed it!'

'I will get it!'

'Come at me Valley!' I could hear Christan yell as I stood outside our bedroom door.

'Im not green!' Val yelled back.

I opened the door quickly, knowing they were up to no good when something wet drenched me from above. I dropped my oreo's.

What even..?

I looked to my right to see Valerie standing on the bed, an empty bucket in her hands, a large amount of water balloons beside her feet. She looked shocked.

I looked to my left to see Christan, holding up a soaked pillow in a defense mode.

The only thing not wet of his was his favourite shirt and his hair.

There were splashes of water everywhere, not everything completely covered. Yet.

Christan burst out laughing.

'Oh, you think this is funny huh?'

'Yup' He popped the p.

'Well lets see how you like it' I said, grabbing a water balloon from the bed.

When I smashed it over his head I realised it wasn't a water balloon. He closed his eyes shut as green paint dripped down his face and neck from his coated hair. He opened his eyes, and glared at me.Like he was going for the kill.

Christan is very "protective" of his hair.

'Now who's a Valley' I smirked. I took advantage as long as I could, almost seeing steam blowing out of his ears.

'You. Are. Dead.' He said darkly.

He picked up the biggest paint balloon filled with my least favourite colour.

Yellow.

I stumbled backwards, looking at that deathly thing. Christan kept coming towards me, an evil smirk upon his face as I kept moving back, terrified.

'No. No Christan dont, please dont' I blabbered.

Paint is very hard to get out of long and fairly thick hair.

'Ill do anything! Please! Ill buy you a dog! Ill write a book about you praising you're presence!! Please dont!' I pleaded.

My back hit the corner of a wall. Christan hovered over me.

'As tempting as that is.. I need sunshine over my valley' He said.

With that, bright yellow paint had covered my face and my shirt. The shirt happened to be one of my favourites. I heard a loud giggle from the bed.

'Aw Val, would you like a hug?' I held out my arms, fresh yellow paint covering my front.

I started walking towards Valerie. Her giggling immediately stopped, and she looked at me frightened.

'Come on, dont be scared' I said.

She leaped off the bed and ran. I chased after her, running around the room.

I caught her and squeezed her tightly, making sure the paint covered her too.

'Ew Mummy' She said, trying to pull away.

I held her for another 5 seconds before I let her go, covered in yellow.

Valerie smiled up at me.

'S'okay, I liked yellow always anyway' She stuck her tongue out slightly.

'But I think you and daddy need blue!' She battlecried.

'Christan, Jesse and Valerie Drake what is it you think your doing?' A voice boomed from the open door.

The paint balloon Valerie and I had just launched from the bedframe had smashed on Christian's head instead of his pillow fort, because he stuck his head out of it to see who

had come in.

Vanessa stood there, arms crossed, right foot tapping the floor restlessly.

'We're having a bloon fight Aunty Ness' Valerie said excitedly.

'Yeah. I can see that' She glared at me.

'Its not THAT bad Ness'

'Oh really? You looked around lately?'

I took a look at our mess.

'Oh' I said.

I didn't realize it was that bad.

'I want you two to clean up this mess, while Valerie has a shower. Am I clear?'

'But Aunty Ness I made a big mess too'

'Nope. It was Christan and Jess' job as responsible adults to know when to stop your fun. You were simply following their lead, so youre excused from cleaning duties Val'

'Im not even 18 yet so technically I'm still a child so blame Christan! He started the fight with Valerie anyway!'

'Hey! It wasn't me! Val splashed in the bath first!' Christan protested.

'QUIT playing the blame game. You know I hate messes, so clean it. Besides, it gives you mate bonding time or whatever' She dismissed us with her hand.

'He's not my mate! How many times must I say it?' I exclaimed.

I'm surprised she had said it.

'Whats a mate?' Valerie asked curiously.

Crap. I forgot she was there.

'Its a..' Christan trailed off, looking at me for help.

'Its kind of..' I couldn't come up with anything either.

'Twilight? Jacob and Renesme? Wolves are so pretty! I love-' Valerie started ranting.

'No. Nope. No no no. My daughter is not going to have herself thinking that werewolves are like Twilight. I shalt not allow it. It's preposterous!' Christan uses words he wouldn't normally use when he's angry.

Words like "Preposterous" and "Shalt".

Christan bend down to Val's height.

'Valerie, sweetheart, werewolves aren't like Taylor Lautner. They aren't at all like him. Werewolves wouldn't know if a newborn child was his mate, the child has to turn 16 first. And when it did turn 16, the werewolf would have gotten old and you see.. it makes no sense. The moon goddess isn't that stupid Valerie' Christan explained.

I held in a laugh. It was hillarious how much he cared about this.

(A/N I'm not saying Twilight is wrong... well I did but remember this is just a story. Twilight is NOT inaccurate or accurate. Its up to you and your opinion.

I'm not hating on Twilight, so dont hate on me for the sake of a scene? Its an important scene, just a heads up (; )

'Wow! How did you know that? Did you see a someone werewolf and they told you?' Valerie asked, eyes gleaming.

'If you go with Aunty Ness to have a shower, Ill tell you' Christan said in a loud whisper.

Valerie nodded, a mixture of green and blue dripping out of her hair a little. Her hair was flat, curling up a bit at the ends. But her usual side parting was an absolute mess, some of it stuck to her face with paint.

You couldn't see the original colour of her clothes, but you could faintly make out she was wearing pajama pants and a singlet.

Christan was a fair mess too. The paint acted like gel to his hair, sticking it up in various places. The shade of paint on his hair was a puke dark yellow. His clothes were rugged up, and he should have looked awful.

That's how bad he was, his whole frame was an absolute mess, and not in a sexy way exactly.

That's what I would be thinking if I was a normal person.

All I could think of is how I now found a puke dark yellow an attractive colour.

On Christan anyway.

God dammit he would make an evil clown suit look good.

With some chains to hold him back, tied round his wrists. Glass shattered around him, under a single dirty lightbulb.  Supposed to be brightly coloured shirt, dipped in dirt and grime, one arm torn off to reveal the veins showing his struggle. Shirt in shreds on his body, revealing the slight sweat on his sexy chest.

One side of his suspenders broken, twisted violently with his attempt to release himself from the chain. His clown makeup distorted across his face, his teeth curled into a snarl. His brown hair messily pushed everywhere, blood slowly seeping out the side of his mouth.

Then he would grab me through his chains, and my hands would roam his scarred body-

'That can be arranged' His husky, deep voice said.

A shiver ran through me at the sound of his voice, tingling my toes.

I didn't even realise Valerie and Vanessa had left.

Large, rough hands grabbed my stomach and pulled me towards him, electricity burning through my bones.

Unfortunately his hand brushed against the side of my stomach, so by the time I was in his arms I had burst out laughing.

Because that's my weak tickle spot.

'Oh I see someone's a little ticklish' He smirked, brushing his fingers against the side of my stomach again.

'No no!' I burst out laughing again, trying to push him away from me.

His grip held me strong, so I tried pulling myself out of his arms. I yanked backwards, feeling myself falling for a moment before my back hit the floor. The impact was harder when a heavy weight landed on top of me.

I looked up to see Christan's smirking face.

'You so want me' His face was so close that the dark yellow close-to-green paint dripped off his hair onto my forehead.

'Do not, get your heavy ass off me' I laughed, placing my hands on his chest, trying to push him off me.

He weighed like, a ton.

Christan placed his hands on the floor, one foot on either side of mine, holding me in place. His weight wasn't on me anymore, but I still couldn't get up.

'You are not planking over me. How the hell...' I trailed off, in a bit of a shock.

I can't hold myself in a plank for more than 10 seconds. And here he is, planking while holding me down.

'Where do you think these sexy abs came from?' And there's the cocky comment.

'I said sexy chest, not sexy abs' I pointed out.

'So you admit it' His eyes were a shade darker, that got me tingly.

'No! I didn't mean that! I just-' I started nervously rambling, until I got cut off with his deep chuckle.

'Doesnt matter, its all yours anyway' He whispered.

My thinking pattern fizzled, and I couldn't use my right judgement. It was all... poof.

'W-whats.. what's.. mine..?' I stumbled across my words.

I gulped, my throat dry.

'Me' His whisper sent chills through my body.

I could almost feel his lips brush against mine, every bone in my body ready to give in.

Till I heard a loud bang beside us. It was probably just a rubbish wheelie bin lid being closed shut with the wind accidently pushing on it too hard therefore creating the sound, but it startled both of us.

Christan jumped slightly in fright, falling beside me. He bumped into the side table at his fall, making the paint covered lamp at the edge of the table drop straight on his chest.

It wouldn't have hurt as much if it wasn't a lava lamp, the glass breaking at the impact.

'Oh Jesus Christ!' Christan yelled in pain.

He leaned up to sit up, but hit his head on the handle sticking out of the side table drawer. His hand flew to his head, cussing like a sailor.

A dirty old sailor with access to the social networking world.

'Oh God Christan are you okay? No, stupid question. Here, let me help' I rushed to him, kneeling down beside him.

I put my one hand on his back, and the other in his to help him sit upright. 3 Quaters of the lamp's broken glass clattered to the floor beside him, a few onto my lap. The other quater was stuck in his chest, the probably burning hot wax in the midst of the watery substance glueing it in.

Blood was being reflected slightly in the glass, staining his shirt. It was growing by the second.

This drew me into a slight panic.

'I uh.. your bleeding. Your bleeding Christan! Oh God I am so sorry, I dont know what to do if you die Christan please dont die I couldnt- Argh sorry let me go get the first aid' I dashed to the bathroom.

I pulled open the cupboard in a panic, moving everything to see if I could spot a first aid, things clashing to the floor beside me.

Something hard and heavy dropped on my toe, making me scream silently. I looked down to see the first aid kit.

Stupid first aid kit.

I continued rummaging through the shelves.

The first aid kit!

I grabbed it off the ground, running back to Christan. There was now a huge blood stain on his shirt.

I think I'm going to puke and hide in a corner...

And my mum wanted me to be a surgeon.

'Uhh.. get on the bed' I ordered him, chucking the first aid kit on the bed.

'Woah, didn't know you liked it rough' He replied with a coarse chuckle.

'Whatever, come on' I ignored him, helping him up onto the bed.

The bed was soaked, covered in a mixture of water and paint.  Luckily Christan wasn't really any different.

I helped him sit up and lean against the bed rest, because hospital movie law #1 says: Do anything possible to keep the patient awake.

'Take off your shirt' I stated.

His shirt was a mess, and I needed to examine the damage.

'Woah girl, you definitely know how daddy likes it'

'Refer to yourself in third person as "Daddy" again and I will not hesitate to drop another lava lamp on you' I glared at him.

'Sorry' He said sheepishly.

He lifted his hands to pull off his shirt, wincing at the pain.

I immediately stopped his hands, moving them slowly above his head so he wouldn't get hurt as much. I slowly pulled off his shirt and brought it all together in a ball, holding a lot of glass and semi hardened wax.

'Damn I really wish I had magic golden hair right now' I muttered.

Even though werewolves do heal alot faster than humans, I'm pretty sure even Rapunzel would have to clean this wound up first before she wrapped her hair around it.

'Good thing you dont, cause I got a thing for brunettes' Christan smiled weakly.

A smile rose to my lips.

'You, Christan, are something else entirely' I laughed, pulling out a packet of cleaning wipes from the first aid.

They were sanitized baby wipes, but they didn't seem like they would get stuck in the wound.

'Okay, this might sting a little' I said, holding a wipe in my hand.

I cleaned off all the wax slowly, making sure that if there was any glass under it I wouldn't push it more in his skin.

Everytime Christan hissed, I would squeeze his hand reeassuringly, and continue.

'That wasn't so bad' Christan breathed out.

I bit my bottom lip.

'Ive hardly gotten started yet'

His stomach was cut badly down the middle, a few medium sized fragments of glass sticking out of it.

'Close your eyes, think happy thoughts' I said, getting the twesers.

*

*

'You owe me a hug, after all the pain you put me through' Christan said.

I tipped the dust pan so the glass slid into the bin.

He was shirtless on the bed, two large bandages across his lower stomach. I tried not to stare more than I already had while putting them on, but his sexy.. sexy chest was drilled into my brain now.

And I wasn't complaining.

'But I'm going to clean the room instead, so it makes up for it. Besides, I could've put you in a hell of alot more but I didn't because I L-' I stopped, and internally slapped myself.

You have to be more careful! You can't just throw around the L word Jesse!

You know Christan would hit a home run with it!!

'You what Jay?' Christan smirked slightly.

'Because it would be on my conscience if I did' Its partly true.

'Just admit it, you care about me'

'Do not, your a meanie' I said, throwing a painted pillow on him.

A pained expression crossed his face, groaning out loud as the pillow hit him.

'Shit I'm so sorry!' I ran towards him, lifting the pillow up carefully.

'I feel so awful I-' I met his eyes, and found the playful glint in them.

'You asshole!' I wacked the pillow across his head.

'I knew you cared' He smirked.

I flipped him off, and completely ignored him while cleaning the room.

Christan kept making jokes, puns that would be horrid to others but hillarious to me. I had to distract myself to not laugh.

In the end I got so frustrated with the whole cleaning thing I ended up dumping a load of water on everything. Just throwing buckets on the walls.

I did a quick steam mop after that, taking off all the paint that had dripped to the floor, leaving the room rather clean.

Except everything was soaking wet, and the bed with its 2 mattresses probably wouldn't dry in less than an hour for us to sleep in. Val feels sleepy after a long bath, and is knocked out till the next day.

But I got this all done in about half an hour. Christan and I even had time to shower. I wrapped a plastic bag around his bandages so he wouldn't splash them with water.

'Ready or not! I'm coming in! This room better be clean or your grin will be thin!' Vanessa announced at the door.

The door swung open, revealing Valerie holding Vanessa's hand, covering her yawn with her other hand. She looked so cute in her new white and pink stripy onesie. Her eyes were drooping, and she looked exhausted.

'Aw is someone a little sleepy?' I asked.

Valerie nodded sleepily, her eyes half closed.

'C'mere sweetheart' I scooped her up in my arms.

She rested her head on my shoulder, wrapping her arms around my neck.

Valerie yawned loudly while Vanessa was inspecting the room.

'Can I.. know about wolves now?' She mumbled into my shoulder.

'When you wake up tomorrow morning, but for now, sleep' I said softly.

I stroked her slightly damp hair, walking a little so she would fall asleep.

Before I knew it, I could hear small snores coming from her little mouth.

'The place is soaking wet Jess' Vanessa said, using a small hushed tone.

'Its alright Ness, it'll dry by tomorrow' I whispered back, afraid of waking Valerie up.

'So for tonight do ya'll want to use my room? Or Nicholas'? He's probably in my bed right now anyway-'

'Too much information' I scrunched up my face a little.

'But dont worry Ness, I know the perfect place' I smiled.

We bid our goodnights, and I heard a bit of shuffling in the walk-in-wardrobe.

And I looked to the bed to find Christan gone.

I hurried over to the wardrobe, to see him stretching up to a higher shelf to reach something.

'Are you insane? You should be resting!' I screamed in a whisper, Valerie still in my arms.

'Have you forgotten I'm a werewolf? A werewolf with Alpha blood? You know we heal fast, faster than even normal were's. I mean, I can hardly feel it anymore' Christan ran his hand down his bandage, not flinching once.

'Just.. be careful okay?' I said with genuine concern.

I was worried about him. I dont like him in pain..

'Dont worry, Ill be fine. Besides, I've gotta be to get you, Val, our sleeping bags and a pack of MnM's to wherever we're going right?' He said, stretching to the high shelf again.

He came down with 3 adult sized sleeping bags.

I laughed softly, walking back into our wet room. I opened my bedside table drawer and pulled out a pack of marshmallow's for Christan, because I know he likes them.

He came back with a bag, packed with our stuff. Christan held Valerie while I slung the bag over my shoulders, letting it fall onto my back, before taking Valerie back into my arms.

We both walked out the front door, making sure not to disturb anyone on our way. After much hushed debate, Christan went behind a tree to shift.

His wolf, more beautiful than I remembered him strolled out from behind the tree, holding his clothes in his mouth. I ignored Rae's purr, stopped myself from staring at his beautiful grey wolf and put his clothes into the bag.

"Ready?" Christan's voice asked in my head.

'Yup' I popped the P.

His wolf was fairly large as he had said, compared to a human, and he looked like he could easily carry the weight. I just didn't want to break him. He was just so.. beautiful.

I swung my leg carefully over his wolf frame, positioning myself on him. So I would be hold Valerie secure without crushing her, and without at risk of falling off him.

When my hand went to hold him, I couldnt help but stroke his soft fur. I heard him purr softly against my touch, then immediately look down in embarrassment.

I just laughed softly, locking my feet in place and holding Valerie tight. He started running, not too fast but swiftly. His fur brushed against my bare skin, giving me tingles, the wind blowing my hair back.

I leaned my head back slightly, enjoying the feeling. I had almost forgotten what it felt like to run, to be free.

I directed Christan to the place I had found when I first arrived, my special place. But I didn't want to take Valerie right to the cliff's edge, because its awfully dangerous.

So I guided Christan to the beginning edge of the clearing. A while away from the edge, but not so far you couldn't cast your eye on the amazing view.

Yeah, I know I said I'd never share this place with anyone but..

I dont know.

Christan was silent after he shifted, unzipping two sleeping bags and laying them flat on the floor. He used the other one as a blanket.

I put a fast asleep Valerie in the middle, kissing her forehead lightly. She snuggled into the pillow, smiling lightly.

I stood up and walked over to Christan, who was standing a few meters away from us. His expression was unreadable as he looked into the night, stars twinkling in the sky.

I stood beside him, and looked beyond the cliff as well. The view was even more beautiful at night.

Although you could barely see the city because we were too far away from the edge, you could see the city lights from the skyline. And when you looked up, and there was a dark blue sky full of stars, some shooting to another before disappearing.

But I couldn't fully admire the view, because of Christan. He was just... blank.

And no matter how much I tried to ignore it, I couldnt.

'Christan.. are you okay?' I broke our silence, raising my eyes up to look at him.

'This is... this place was my special place. I used to sit on the cliff's edge. It used to be my thinking place, to calm me down. It made me feel.. I don't know the word..' He trailed off.

He looked up and mumbled his thoughts out loud, thinking hard.

'Connected' I finished his sentence.

He looked at me for a long time.

'You feel it too' He breathed out finally.

I nodded in reply.

"Could it be another one of those mate things? This could be one of the ways the moon goddess bonds us stronger than others, like Miriam and Issac" Rae's tone was suggestive, as if she was teasing me.

She knew that I secretly thought that story was relevant, and that my bond would grow stronger. She knew I didn't want to accept that, the hidden reason why I didnt want it to be real.

It wasn't because of heat every month, or because of the unacceptance of the people Miriam had worried about. Not even the war had her worried.

Rae knew I used that all as a cover I've been trying to prove to myself.

She knew the thing I was secretly afriad of, though I couldn't help it, was the fact that Issac dies.

And no matter how much of an act I put on about how I dont care..

I always will, whether I like it or not.
