Chapter 25

My Stepbrother, My Mate

Dont enjoy this valentine's thing attached because the person who made it needs to be damned to hell.^^

SUPERNATURAL IS THE REASON I HAVENT UPDATED OVER A MONTH, SO BLAME THE WINCHESTERS. ALSO SOMEONE PUT MY BOOK ON A "Best books on Wattpad" what even.

There are too many of you to mention for being amazing fans, so how about a mention to ALL of you. For literally just being Angels (amazing cute angels, like Cas [obvs] )

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'Christan!' I sighed in relief at the sight of him walking out the front door.

'Jesse? What happened to- Val!' He ushered us both quickly inside, putting the lights on the in living room.

'Val? Oh god, Val please be okay' Christan stroked back her hair as I set her down on the carpet.

'Jess, I saw you running in with Val and I have some stuff.. The pack doctor said to cover the wound quickly, he's 10 minutes away.' Kaitlyn was holding a box of medical supplies in her hands, setting her phone down on the table.

She put the supplies beside me, as Christan held Valerie up.

'You're a live saver Kaitlyn' I forced a smile quickly, turning back to Valerie.

I saw Valerie's wound properly, the two large holes indicating a wolf bite. Panic rose inside me.

'Ive got a wet cloth to hold back the bleeding!' Luke yelled huskily, as if he had just woken up. He rushed towards us from the kitchen, handing Christan the towel.

'Thanks mate' Christan quickly held down the cloth on Valerie's now swollen blood wound, making her cry out in pain.

'Daddy.. it.. hurts' She cried out, struggling to keep her eyes open.

'It'll be better sweetheart. Daddy and I will take care of you. Dont worry' I spoke in a soft tone, opening up a large wrap of bandage.

'We'll get her a glass of water and a blanket' Kaitlyn said, shooing Luke back to the kitchen as she went towards the laundry cupboard.

'Should I take it off? So you can cover it?' Christan sounded as panicked as I was, holding the wet and now bloody cloth down on Valerie's shoulder.

'Uh- yeah. Yeah do that' I pushed back my tears, wiping them on my bare arm.

Christan lifted up the cloth slowly, putting it beside him. His eyes widened in panic immediately at the sight of her open wound.

'Its been at least 5 minutes of me holding that thing down! Why is it still bleeding??' Christan exclaimed in panic, breathing heavily as we watched more blood trickle out of the wound.

'How would I know Christan? I dont know!' I yelled frantically, quickly pressing the large folded gauze on Valerie's shoulder.

'Just hold that down' I held it until he put his hand beside mine, holding the gauze down for me.

'How are you holding up Val?' I tried to smile through my panic, pulling out the medical tape to hold down the gauze.

She gave me a small smile, before coughing raspily.

'Ok-' She stopped, coughing again.

'Do you want some water Valerie? It's in your favourite cup' Luke came up beside me, holding out the cup Valerie drinks from daily.

It was a hard plastic blue cup, that Luke had customized with the words "Better than Luke" and a small video game controller under it. Luke had bought the cup for Valerie on her birthday, along with the newest Fifa video game.

She loves that cup like it's her life.

She barely smiled, but croaked out a small 'Yes'.

Luke gave the cup full of water to Christan, who held it up to Valerie's lips. She drank slowly and only a few sips worth from the cup, while Kaitlyn put a blanket over her.

There was a loud knock at the door, making us all jump.

I quickly went to the door, opening it.

At the door, there was a man with a large brown briefcase. He had big, round glasses pushed all the way up his nose, and a long dark trenchcoat hung across his shoulders.

'Where's the patient?' He held up his hunched shoulders, looking up at me.

He was on the short side.

'Come in Doc, she's in the living room' I held the door open for him, ushering him through the kitchen to the living room.

'Alright, give the girl some space. Did anyone see what happened to her?' He knelt down beside Valerie, making sure Christan, Kaitlyn and Luke moved back.

'I uh- I woke up to her missing from the bed, all the doors were wide open. I saw this werewolf biting down on her neck. So I ran down, and bought her back inside' I spoke up, trying not to stutter.

The doctor pulled back the gauze Christan and I had put on Valerie's shoulder. I cringed at the sight of the wound, still dripping with now clotted blood.

'The wolf? What was it? Did you catch it's eye colour?' He shot me questions, as he pulled out some medical tools from his bag.

'Red. They were a blazing red'

I would never forget those eyes.

The doctor grumbled something under his breath, putting back half the tools into his bag.

'And how long has it been since she's been bitten?'

My head was spinning, I could barely keep track of time.

'Just under 15 minutes' Kaitlyn answered, looking down at her watch.

All of a sudden Valerie's heavy breathing slowed, putting a silence throughout the room.

'Doc? Doc whats happening to her?' I skidded my knees on the carpet as I knelt beside Valerie, watching as her eyes closed.

Christan had rushed down beside Valerie the same time I had, pushing her hair out of her face.

'Valerie?' Christan whispered, tears forming in his eyes.

'The signs are clear. Valerie was bitten by a Moonwalker, and has fallen into a state between wolf and human. Its sort of a coma, but she cannot use any of her senses towards the outside world. The only thing we can do now.. is wait' He said, standing up from his place on the ground.

'Wait for what? Will she.. will she turn?'

Only tales can be told about the agonizing pain humans go through if they are bitten by a moonwalker. The change itself is agonizing. They shift only when the moon is full, and can never control their thirst for blood and kaos when they turn. Most are killed eventually.

'Is there any way to stop the turn?' Christan asked, a slight panic in his tone.

The doctor sighed sympathetically, pushing his glasses further up on the outside of his nose.

'There are only 2 possible outcomes for your daughter now. She can either wake up any time within the next few weeks and be changed into a Moonwalker.... or not wake up at all. My sincerest apologies'

Neither Christan or I said a word as the doctor covered Valerie's wound up properly, and helped us move her to a bed. We waited for the medical equipment to keep her food source running, and the doctor said he would be back every few days to check on her progress.

I gave the doctor a small "Thankyou" before he left.

It was just us 4 now, standing in the room with Valerie. Luke and Kaitlyn were just about to leave, as it was almost the crack of dawn.

'Are you both going to be okay?' Kaitlyn asked, her hand on my shoulder.

I kept my eyes on my sweet baby girl. Her usually rosy cheeks were pale, her smile unpresent during her slumber.

'We'll manage. Thank you Kaitlyn, for everything. For being such an amazing friend' I forced a smile, one that barely raised my lips.

'She's like our godchild, it's not a problem. Ill let the Alpha and Luna know yeah?' Kaitlyn smiled sympathetically.

I nodded, as she hugged me like a true friend. She then went to Christan, as Luke came to me.

Luke didnt say anything at first, he just held out his arms for me.

I closed my eyes shut as I went in to hug him, holding back my tears. Luke wrapped his arms around me, comforting me as he gave me a small squeeze.

'It's going to be okay Jesse. Valerie's a strong girl' Luke said, his arms still firmly around me.

'I don't want her to go Luke. She's my daughter. I'd give my life if I could' I whispered.

'I know you would' We both pulled back from the hug, Luke giving me small smile.

'Thank you Lucas' I said, watching Kaitlyn hug Christan at the same time.

'Like Kaitlyn said, She's like our godchild. We'll come back to visit soon, promise'

They both kissed Valerie on the cheek before they left, letting me close the door behind them.

I sat down beside Christan on the floor, the only sound being the soft slow-paced heart monitor that now echoed throughout the room.

Valerie.

She still looked beautiful as she lay there, her eyes only just shut. Her hair cascaded around her face and shoulders, moved away from her large bandaged shoulder. It was like she had only fallen asleep; when her quiet, tiny snores would constantly escape her pink lips.

But all was silent as I could do nothing but sit beside my daughter's bed, waiting to see if she would wake up.

I could have done something.

I could have held her tighter tonight.

I could have stopped the attack.

I could have shifted and smashed through the window, pouncing on the Moonwalker.

I could have not joined this pack, so Valerie could still be safe.

I could have not started the war in my old pack, so it didn't have to carry on to this one.

I could have listened.

I could have avoided going out into the woods that day.

'Im sorry Christan' I mumbled quietly as I sat beside him.

He looked so torn as he looked at her. It was making the hurt even more.

'Show me what you saw, then let me decide if you actually need to apologize, or if you're just over reacting' He held out his hand for me.

He gave me a small smile within the sadness, and I took his hand.

I immediately felt comforted, but was still awfully wary of the facts in front of me.

The fact that my daughter was slowly turning into something painful and uncontrollable, or slowly fading away her soul to nothing.

I showed Christan everything.

From the moment I could feel Valerie's presence missing beside me in the bed, to the moment when that bastard bit down on her neck, before I ran down the stairs in an attempt to reach my daughter.

All in a matter of a few seconds.

My eyes cracked themselves open as my link finished, watching as Christan's breath was significantly heavier.

'Don't apologize' He whispered, tears brimming in his eyes.

He pulled me to him softly, wrapping his arms around me as we both sat down on the shag carpet together. I held onto his arms, his front pressed against my back, letting myself go.

I cried.

And I cried.

And Christan stayed with me, and I with him, as the sun rose thrice upon the horizon, and fell the opposite way.

-----------

'Hi you guys, could we come in?' Kaitlyn's head popped through the room's door after slowly creaking it open.

'Yeah.. yeah come in' I stood up, rubbing my eyes.

My voice had become husky from not speaking as much, my eyes sore and probably red. I knew my hair was in tangles, lips chapped and dry, I wasnt all too clean. These were factors I didnt care much about at the moment.

Luke and Kaitlyn had come in yesterday, to offer us food and a chance to rest and wash up, but neither of us could bring ourselves to leave Valerie, and we declined.

Kaitlyn opened the door wider, revealing a range of bright colours, helium balloons, gift bags, Luke, and the doctor.

'How is Valerie doing? Any response?' The doctor asked, going over to the heart rate monitor and scribbling down notes in his brown notepad.

'She's been better... no responses yet, no' Christan said, looking just as terrible as I knew I looked.

The doctor nodded, going over to Valerie and writing down the results of her blood pressure and progress, like he did yesterday.

Kaitlyn and Luke on the other hand, were tying bright helium "Get well soon! ♡ you!" balloons to Valerie's bedframe, piling chocolates and a new vase full of flowers on the side table, and were in the process of placing 10 stuffed animals on the bed beside her.

'I cant believe you guys bought all of this' I couldn't help but let out a small smile as they pulled out Valerie's favourite storytime book, and placed it on the table.

'We wanted to make her happy when she wakes up. Another thing that will make her happy is if both of you stop looking like the walking dead' Kaitlyn stated, her hand on her hips.

'But Kaitlyn-'

'No buts Jesse, I'm serious. I understand how much you both care about her, but you need to eat and freshen up. It's been four days, it isnt healthy' Kaitlyn interupted me, sounding genuinely concerned.

'Just take a few hours to freshen up, eat and rest for a bit. We'll stay here with Valerie' Luke said with a smile.

'You both do need some rest, your friends are right' The doctor added, clicking his pen close.

'And there are visitors pending to see her, we were hoping you would both be ready for them soon' Kaitlyn said, before casting her eyes upon me expectantly.

'I.... uh' I looked at Christan, urging him to make the decision with my eyes.

'Call us down if anything happens, and tell whoever wants to visit can come tomorrow. Thank you both, we dont know what we would do without you' Christan forced a smile on his stubble surrounded lips.

He was still able to speak and communicate smoothly, able to shelter how much of a wreck he was, making me feel proud of what a great Alpha he'll become.

'Be back soon Val, I promise. Love you' I hovered over her bed, kissing her forehead lightly before pulling back.

I took in the sight of her pale, resting face once more. She didnt look like she was struggling or in the state of which she was about to die.

She looked at peace.

That's what I loved, yet loathed the most.

'If I see you two before 5, I womt hesitate to hurt you!' Kaitlyn yelled after us in the sweetest tone.

I did a quick pitstop at the kitchen before going upstairs with Christan closely in front of me, trying to stay awake and not pass out as I walked up the stairs. Every bone in my body was itching for a hot shower and a rest, my stomach growling for a fill.

Christan plopped down on the bed, as I tossed him the bag of chips, biscuits and the yogurt I managed to snag from the kitchen. But as I went to open the bag of chips.. It suddenly seemed repulsive and inedible.

I handed them back to Christan, lying back on the bed, staring at the ceiling.

Christan pushed back and lay down beside me, food tossed aside.

'I dont really feel up to eating either' He said, sighing lightly.

'I'll take a shower I guess. Rather sooner than later so we can get back to her' I sat up, grabbing my towel and getting into the shower.

The water started up, and I scrubbed myself with soap before beginning to shampoo.

My eyes squeezed shut, previous images of watching blood gush from my showerhead flashed through my mind, then to falling asleep that night and waking up to Valerie-

I quickly washed my hair and jumped out of the shower, sighing as I did.

My eyes hovered over the bathtub, hoping maybe the still water and bubbles would be more relaxing.

I let the water run to fill up the tub, letting Christan have a shower as I did, before stepping in and relaxing my body with the hot water and overflowing bubbles.

I heard the shower stop running, a towel wrapped Christan walking out of the shower cubicle moments later.

He ran his hand through his hair, pushing it back and out of his face, before crouching down beside me inside the bubble-filled tub.

'So' He started.

His eyes were still deeply bagged like mine, his slow growing stubble still messy across his lower face. But he looked fresher, clean.

'So?' I questioned him, raising an eyebrow.

'So I dont know what to do now. I cant think about anything else other than Val, and I can't sleep' He shrugged.

'Neither can I, that's why I'm in the bathtub. If you pass me the bath bombs, I'll get out in 10 minutes instead of an hour, and you can hop in?' I pointed to the cabinet behind him, pouting my lips slightly to plead, in an attempt to lighten the mood.

'Or I could just hop in with you, after getting the bath bombs of course' He said cheekily, standing up and grabbing the fizzy bath bombs.

'Be my guest, as long as your back is on the other side of the tub' I shrugged in all honestly.

He looked shocked for about 10 seconds.

Then jumped in, flashing me his squeaky clean butt for a second as he did, and making some of the water overflow from the tub.

I didn't really estimate the amount of space this tub had correctly.

With my legs squeezed together and leaning on the left side of the tub, they were pressed against Christan's. The end of my feet barely reached a little over his knee, whereas due to his long legs, the end of his foot was pressed halfway up my thigh.

But although our legs were squashed against each other, and the tub was not nearly large enough for the both of us, I just felt comfortable.

Comfortable that I could have him with me like this, at a time like this, and not have to make the situation sexual or awkward.

That's what I loved about him being my mate, he makes any situation seem right.

The world took a pause, and we talked.

We talked about what could happen with Valerie.

We talked about how I really wanted to shave my legs.

We talked about how he really wanted to shave his face.

We talked about each other.

We talked about what the future might hold.

We didnt talk and we sat there with each other.

We talked about whatever came to mind.

I thought we had been talking forever when my eyes became heavy, and I fell into a calm sleep throughout the troubled storm.

I love you guys :)

I hope you all have amazing and notonfire days ;)
