Chapter 323
Back to the Past: Breaking the Love Spell
Lethan returned to his mansion to relax in the hot tub after a busy day. Just as he was about to get in, his phone on the coffee table rang. He picked it up and answered the call from Carlisle.
âCarlisle, do you want to join me for a soak in the hot tub?â
âIâm not in the mood. I need you to find out whatâs going on with Prince Heath.â
âPrince Heath?â Lethan said, surprised.
âAre you close to him?â
Carlisle explained, âHeâs the one I backed to take on Zachary.â
âHoly shitâ¦â Lethan blurted out.
He couldnât believe Heath was Carlisleâs guy all along. Itâs no wonder Heath had been rising fast lately.
For a moment, Lethan didnât know how to feel about this. Zachary was his nephew. Carlisle was his close business partner and also the guy Wanda liked.
Yet, these two were at each otherâs throats.
Still, he had to admire Carlisle. At just 18, he had a talent for gathering capable people around him.
Lethan was puzzled.
âIf you know Prince Heath so well, why do you need me to look into him?â
Carlisle sighed.
âHeâs in trouble. I think he might have been arrested.â
Lethan raised an eyebrow.
âI have an old friend who works at the police station. Iâll see what I can find out.â
After hanging up, Lethan called his old friend.
âHey, Mr. Warbane! My, my. The big shot himself actually has the time to call me?â
A deep voice came from the other end.
Lethan grinned
âHey, we were high school buddies. Itâs been a while since weâve hung out. Iâm thinking of organizing a
reunion soon. Do you have time to come?â
âOf course. Iâd love to join! Just send me the time and place, and Iâll be there.â
âWhatâs been keeping you busy lately?â
Lethan didnât jump straight to asking about Heath. Instead, he wanted to warm up the conversation first.
22
âWhat else? Keeping the peace in Riverland, of course.â
âI remember your dream was to maintain world peace!â
Lethan brought up Gabrielâs childhood dream to remind him of their close bond.
âCut to the chase, Mr. Warbane. What do you want?â
Gabriel Yost, the deputy chief at the city police department, had climbed up the ranks and could easil
read between the lines of Lethanâs chatter.
Lethan chuckled awkwardly.
âAlright, Iâll get straight to the point. Iâm inquiring about Prince Heath.â
Gabriel immediately fell silent.
Lethan quickly added, âIf itâs not something you can talk about, thatâs fine. Iâm just asking for a friend.â
Gabriel narrowed his eyes.
âIs that friend of yours Carlisle Zahn?â
âCarlisle?â
Lethanâs heart raced.
âHeâs my business partner. The friend I mentioned isnât him.â
Lethan grew anxious. He wondered if Heath had sold out Carlisle. He pondered why else Gabriel would mention Carlisle if that wasnât the case.
Gabriel remained silent, and Lethan hesitated to speak further. The tension was thick.
After a short while, Gabriel said, âPrince Heath is seriously injured and in the hospital undergoing
emergency surgery.
Lethan pressed, âWas his operation dismantled? Is he facing execution?â
âMr. Warbane, you seem quite close with Prince Heath, Gabriel remarked pointedly.
Lethan quickly backpedaled.
âNot at all. Iâm simply curious.â
Gabriel laughed, then said thoughtfully, âItâs best if youâre not. I wouldnât want to see you end up here for a
chat.â
After some small talk, Lethan hung up and relayed the information to Carlisle.
Hearing that Heath was critically injured, Carlisle sank into his chair, drained.
Lethan cautioned, âYouâd better not visit him now. It seems that they know about your connection to Heath I suspect he sold you out.â
