Chapter 406
Back to the Past: Breaking the Love Spell
Callieâs expression darkened at once, and her tone grew impatient. âDonât mention him! It annoys me!â
Melanie was unmoved. It wasnât easy to find Callieâs weakness, and she wasnât about to let it go easily. She asked. âDid he buy pads for you when you were on your period?â
Callie laughed out of sheer anger. She looked angry. âJust the mention of it makes me angry. There was once when I asked him to go and help me buy pads because I was on my period. Guess what he said?â
âWhat did he say?â Melanie looked enthusiastically at Callie. She only remembered Callie had a boyfriend in their second year of university, but they had broken up recently.
Melanie had never asked Callie about the reason.
Callie laughed wryly and said, âHe told me that women in the past used cloths that could be washed and used again. He says it would save a lot of money if I did so tooâ¦â
Melanie burst into laughter. âIâm sorry⦠I know I shouldnât laugh, but⦠I canât help itâ¦.â She was laughing so much that she was crying
How could he tell her to use cloths as pads?
He was so weird!
Callie was furious, and her face and ears reddened. âDonât tell anyone about this! Weâve broken up, but he hasnât graduated yet. If this gets out, it wonât be good for his reputation!â
Melanie stopped laughing with difficulty. She wiped away her tears of laughter and asked, âHeâs from the University of Science and Technology, isnât he?â
Callie nodded. âYes. I hear that there are a lot of literalâminded, tactless men studying there. Make sure you donât get a boyfriend who goes there!â
Just as Carlisle reached the building, Phoebeâs voice suddenly rang out behind him.
âCarlisle!â
He turned and saw Phoebe dragging a pink suitcase as she walked toward him, holding an umbrella.
Christine was with her.
âDid you rent a place here?â he asked curiously.
Phoebe smiled stiffly. âYou think too highly of us, Mr. Zahn. How could we afford to live in such a highâend apartment?â
Christine explained, âWeâre here to deliver Wandaâs luggage.â
Carlisle glanced at the suitcase, nodded, and said, âIâll bring you both up.â
Phoebe saw Carlisle was soaked, so she put her umbrella over him. âMr. Zahn, why didnât you bring an
umbrella when itâs raining so heavily? What were you thinking?â
âWe donât have any umbrellas at home. Besides, when I came downstairs, it was only drizzling! Carlisle looked resigned. He hadnât expected the rain to get so heavy.
Phoebe praised him. âYouâre such a good man. With you looking after Wanda, I feel perfectly assured!â
The three of them chatted together as they walked.
Carlisle suddenly asked, âDidnât you get an investor? How much is he contributing?â
Phoebe said triumphantly, â30 million!â
Carlisle looked admiringly at Phoebe. âThatâs impressive. You managed to find an investor after just a day!
30 million wasnât a small amount.
Only a millionaire could invest 30 million so easily, and he wondered who the investor was.
Without asking further, he entered the elevator and pressed the button for the 16th floor.
In the elevator, Phoebe said, âItâs all thanks to Christine. She was the one who found the investor on a forum. He doesnât seem to be in Shorefield, and he wants to talk to the companyâs personâinâcharge, but in Wandaâs current conditionâ¦â
Carlisle laughed and said, âTell him to set a time. Iâll take Wanda to discuss things with him.â
Christine looked at Carlisle with bright, clear eyes. She hesitated, looking as if she wanted to say
something.
Carlisle caught sight of her expression out of the corner of his eye. He laughed and said, âDonât
me?â

Christine said carefully, âIf this investor is able to come up with 30 million, he must be very wealthy. Weâre all so young, and Iâm worried it will be a problem!â
Carlisle wished he could tell her he had already managed to get a project worth 1 billion.
However, they wouldnât believe him even if he did tell them.
Therefore, he refrained from saying anything.
After a momentâs silence, he said slowly, âWeâll have to face it eventually. Your company is at the stage where it needs investment funds. The investor has also clearly stated that he wants to meet Wanda. If Wanda doesnât make an appearance, wonât it make us seem insincere?â
Phoebe felt that he was right. She nodded and said, âOur company has a couple of finance consultants now, too. If they go with Wanda when the time comes, I think it can help us look more impressive!â Christine thought for a while. She inclined her head and said, âIâll arrange a time for you then!â
