Chapter 52
Back to the Past: Breaking the Love Spell
Lily glanced at the cash. They were all brand new 100âdollar bills. She wasnât able to tell how much
there was just by the thickness of the stack.
âThank you very much, Carlisle!â
Lily was brought to tears again.
She had mocked him when he switched places with her. Even so, he was helping her without holding
any grudges.
formal!
âWe were schoolmates. You donât have to be so for
âI will return it to you as soon as possible,â Lily uttered, choking back on her tears.
Lily pressed the money against her chest. If it werenât for Carlisle and Sean, her life would have
changed.
âAlright, hurry up and put the money away. You shouldnât keep your money exposed like that. You were
probably robbed because you revealed your money somewhere!â
Carlisle picked up the cup from the table and took a sip.
Lily shook her head. âIâve never revealed my money!â
Carlisle continued his analysis. âThen, thereâs a second possibility. Those robbers knew that there
would be freshmen with money on them during the new school term. So, they simply struck at random.
It was just your bad luck that they targeted youâ¦â
Lily pouted. âTheyâre nasty. I hope the police will be able to catch them soon!â
Carlisle only responded with a smile. There was nothing wrong with Lilyâs perspective. However, the
reality was usually very cruel.
The security was bad during this period of time. The authorities were probably incapable of doing
anything even if they wanted to. If capturing them was such an easy task, the robbers wouldnât have
threatened them with knives.
The staff members served up their food. After all nine dishes were served, Carlisle was flabbergasted.
âYouâre a nouveau riche indeed. This meal is on you!â Carlisle glared at Sean unhappily
Sean responded nonchalantly. âMy treat it is!â
Out of the 20 thousand dollars that Carlisle gave him, he only used some of it to buy his phone. Other
than that purchase, he had never touched the money again.
Sean opened a bottle of beer and poured a glass each for Carlisle and Lily.
âCheers to our freedomâ¦â
âCheers!â
Carlisle lifted his glass with a smile on his face.
Lily glanced at Carlisle and Sean, whom she was now indebted to. It didnât feel right to refuse them, so
she also lifted her glass and clinked glasses with them.
Carlisle and Sean chugged it all in one gulp. As for Lily, she only took a sip.
Right at that moment, the MSN messenger notification rang from Carlisleâs phone in his pocket again.
He put his cutleries down and took his phone out.
He thought that Sweet like candy had messaged him. As it turned out, it wasnât her.
Goldfish memory: âCarlisle, have you arrived at Riverland?â
It was Christine Goodman.
Carlisle typed, âJust arrived not long ago. How about you?â
Goldfish_memory: âHehe, Iâve just arrived too. Where are you? Can I treat you to a meal?â
Bygones_b_bygones: Iâm near the University of Science and Technologyâ¦â
Goldfish memory: âOh, what a coincidence. Iâm nearby, too!â
Bygones_b_bygones: âCome over to A1 Seafood Restaurant then. Sean and I are dining here!â
Goldfish memory: âYouâve already started eating? Iâll treat you another day then!â
The name, A1 Seafood Restaurant, sounded posh. She didnât dare to treat Carlisle to a meal at a place
like this.
It wasnât that she was being stingy. Rather, she couldnât afford it.
She had tried really hard to gather the money for her studies by asking her neighbors for it.
Bygones_b_bygones: âWe can talk about that another day. Just come over first. Sean ordered an entire
spread of food. We wonât be able to finish everything!â
Goldfish memory: âAlright then!â
Sean was eating the lemon butter fish when he suddenly asked, âCarl, come to think of it, how did you
know that Lily would be in danger at that time?â
Upon hearing that, Lily looked toward Carlisle in surprise. âYou already knew that I was going to be in
danger, so you asked Sean to save me?â
Both of them stared straight at Carlisle. With a serious expression on his face, he said, âI will let you
both in on a secret. You have to make sure that you donât tell anyone!â
