CHAPTER 158
Winning Her Heart Back
Chapter 158 Detective Hoven
Patricia commented, âYou almost caused a scene yesterday by bringing Ms. Bowen to the office to find Mr. Middleton and me.â
Emelie turned her head slightly and lowered the sunshade.
Still smiling, Patricia said, âI was a bit surprised. After what happened on the ship and with you no longer at Cloudex Corporation, I didnât expect you to still be so possessive of Mr. Middleton. Just as I was catching up with him, it felt like you were ready to interrupt.â
Interrupt?
Emelie wondered if when Daphne showed up, she only saw what happened afterward, or if she interrupted the intimacy in the middle of it.
She pictured that scenario and furrowed her brow.
A flight attendant came over and asked politely, âWould you ladies like something to drink?â
âHalf a glass of lemon water, please,â Emelie requested, feeling a bit queasy.
The flight attendant poured a glass and handed it to her, and Emelie drank it down.
Patriciaâs voice was softer than the flight attendantâs. âMs. Hoven, you seem pretty bothered by my relationship with Mr. Middleton, donât you⦠Or are you perhaps feeling a bit jealous?â
Emelie opened the disposable eye mask provided in the business class and finally turned to Patricia, saying, âSorry, Iâm a bit tired and need to get some sleep.â Patricia was caught off guard by Emelieâs sudden statement.
But Emelie had already put on the eye mask and adjusted her seat. Folding her hands on her abdomen, she appeared as if she was getting ready to doze off peacefully.
Patricia found herself simultaneously irritated and amused.
After all the talk, Emelie didnât reply at all. She just mentioned wanting to sleep and was basically telling Patricia to shut up subtly.
Patricia couldnât help but find Emelie to be poised and unflappable.
Three hours later, the plane landed in Wimstour City.
Their ride was waiting outside the airport, and their luggage was already being handled. Emelie and Samuel walked together. Samuel switched off airplane mode on his phone and casually opened his photo album, saying, âCheck this out.â
William, who was trailing behind them, lifted his head and glanced at Emelie and Samuel ahead with a blank expression.
Emelie glanced at Samuelâs phone.
It showed a picture of a plant stand with four or five pots of mint plants. She exclaimed, âHave they all grown this much?â
Samuel chuckled, âYou only gave me a few, and now theyâre almost taking over my plant stand.â
With his sharp eyesight, William noticed Samuelâs screen was filled with lush greenery.
Remembering Emelieâs pot of mint plants, he wondered if she had given them to Samuel.
William pressed his lips together.
Emelie saw right through it. âI donât believe it. You must have bought some yourself.â
Samuel chuckled, âYouâre quite the detective, arenât you, Sherlock Hoven? I shouldâve taken your word for it. Mint plants do thrive, so I shouldnât have bought more. Now my plant stand is overrun with their âdescendants.ââ
Emelie sighed, âMr. Swanson, as a distinguished professor, you shouldnât be throwing around nicknames.â
âSorry,â Samuel apologized with a smirk
Locking his phone and glancing at her hair, he commented, âI donât usually see you with your hair tied up. It looks nice.â
Emelie was taken aback when she noticed something flash in the comer of Samuelâs phone screen. It was like a camera snapping a photo of her.
She quickly turned her head to look in that direction but found nothing there.
Frowning, she glanced around again but still found nothing.
William calmly approached from behind them and said, âMove aside.â
Since Emelie didnât notice anything strange, she hurried to catch up with Samuel.
William watched Emelie go with indifference. He noticed the bun on the back of her head bobbed as she jogged.
âLooks nice? More like she just rolled out of bed without bothering to fix her hair. How messy,â William thought.
They were picked up by a private car and went straight to the hotel.
While the two CEOs and Samuel talked in the lobby, Emelie and a few secretaries checked in at the front desk. With Swanson Corporation only sending Patricia this time, she had to handle the checkâin herself.
Emelie overheard Patricia asking Ashton, âWhich floor is Mr. Middleton on?â

âThe 19th floor,â Ashton replied.
With a smile, Patricia turned to the hotel receptionist and said, âIâd like to be on the 19th floor as well.â
