Chapter 23
Winning Her Heart Back
Chapter 23 Inscrutable Expression
Emelle downed all three shots in one go. She then said with a smile, âThere. May luck lead your way, Mr. Spencer. I really am occupied tonight, so I wonât be able to join. Apologies.â
Emelie then turned and left while William watched on darkly.
Emelleâs swift reaction and departure left Troyâs friends with insufficient time to react and prevent her from leaving. They grumbled to themselves after Emelie left, saying she was no fun.
However, that was just as Emelle had intended.
Emelie was already trapped in a situation where her only means of leaving the room was by drinking the alcohol, just three shots. It seemed like a simple solution to her immediate problem and would allow her to continue searching for Mona. So why hesitate?
However, Emelie knew that while rebellion was an option, relying too heavily on it would only entertain Troyâs friends without truly advancing her cause.
Emelie didnât want to think about how William had intended for her to drink those shots.
Meanwhile, William had extinguished his cigarette after Emelie left. He glanced at the people who were drinking, which made the latter few ask, âWhat is it, Will?â
Jayden piped up, âOne can get drunk very easily once one drinks different kinds of liquor. Why donât you
check up on Emelie? After all, this is a pretty shady place.â
Daphne tightened her grip around Williamâs hand and forced out a smile. âEmelie has really good alcohol
tolerance, so she should be fine. But she did appear to be in a hurry to find whoever she was looking for. Why donât you see if she needs help, Mr. Middleton?â
âAre you sleepy yet? Need me to drive you home?â William responded instead.
Daphne leaned against his shoulder, saying, âNot at all. Iâll keep you company.â
Troy was more clearâminded and now thought
âIâll check on her then.â
den had a point. He was concerned for Emelieâs safety.
Emelie called Monaâs number when Mona didnât write her a response over text. There was a dial tone, but
no one picked up.
The light in the hallway was dim, and the scent of tobacco and perfumes smelled awful together. Emelieâs stomach churned uncomfortably with the heavy smells in addition to the drinks sheâd downed earlier. As
she grew anxious, she began dry heaving.
As the door to the private room beside her opened and a few people walked out, Emelie stumbled into them. The man who she bumped into held her steady. Emelie quickly pulled away and said, âIâm sorry. I
didnât mean to,â
The man was silent for a moment before saying, âItâs alright.â
Emelie was about to look up when her phone call suddenly went through. Mona could be heard saying.â

However, Emelie couldnât hear what was being said after that. But there seemed to be more than one man speaking in the background. Emelle immediately ran upstairs.
The man whom she had bumped into watched her as she ran off, his emotions unreadable.
But soon, two figures ran past the manâs vision. One of them made the manâs eyes narrow.
âMona, which room are you in?â Emelie asked over the phone. But Mona didnât respond anymore, which made Emelie feel very uneasy.
Emelie reached a point where she no longer cared. She boldly opened every door to the private rooms on the third floor until she finally found where Mona was. To her dismay, she discovered Mona being coerced into drinking wine by two men.
Mona looked to be in terrible agony. Emelie instantly went over to shove the two men away, making them
cuss, âWho the fuck are you?â
Emelie stood defensively in front of Mona and glanced at the table as well as the men in the room. She said calmly, âI donât think itâs very appropriate to force a woman to drink so much, no?â
The men saw how gorgeous she was and said teasingly, âWeâre just having a business meeting. Who doesnât drink during one of these?â
Emelie had grown very experienced and wise in such matters after so many years of being Williamâs secretary in Cloudex Corporation, so she knew she couldnât fight fire with fire.
âSome drinks are needed when talking about business.â Emelie took Monaâs wine glass and continued, â But drinking too much is terrible for the body. Iâm sure all of you will feel the same after waking up
tomorrow as well. Why donât I toast to each of you on behalf of Mona here and call it a night?â
The men chuckled unpleasantly.
