Chapter 30
Winning Her Heart Back
Chapter 30 Playing Hard to Get
Emelle silently finished her lunch and decided to stay away from Troy, moving forward. Otherwise, she would just end up running into William.
When Troy sitered to drive her back after lunch, Emelie did not refuse.
She added Troyâs social media account and scrolled through his posts until she found the one Daphne
had mentioned earlier.
How could Troy have posted their picture on there with those captions? It was so misleading!
When Troy arrived at Emelleâs neighborhood, she asked, âCan you delete that post in your social media profile, Mr. Spencer?â
Troy asked, âWhy?â
âItâs inappropriate. People might misunderstand.â
âReally? I think itâs no big deal.â
Emelie insisted, âI still think itâs better if you delete it.â
Troy clicked his tongue and pulled out his phone. âFine, fine. Iâll delete it if you want me to.â
âThank you, Mr. Spencer.â
Troy then set his phone down and asked excitedly, âWhy donât we have dinner tomorrow night?â
Emelie unbuckled her seat belt and said, âIâve given your job offer some thought, Mr. Spencer, and Iâve
decided not to accept it. Itâs not compatible with me.â
âHow is it not compatible? I think it very much is! Plus, you promised me youâd consider it last night. Why are you changing your tune now?â Troy exclaimed, worried.
âI didnât change my tune. I did seriously think about your offer, and have concluded that Iâm not fit for the job. I hope you find someone else who is better suited for the job, Mr. Spencer,â Emelie said as she got out of the car. âThank you again for the offer.â
Troy drove off right away, clearly displeased.
Emelie hadnât actually considered working for Troy. Sheâd only agreed to have lunch with him to avoid offending him.
Emelie had wavered last night when Troy helped her, yet the moment she saw his social media post,
sheâd immediately reaffirmed her stance.
Emelie was worried she might land herself in trouble by working for Troy.
Now that Emelie had stopped working with William, all she wanted was a stable job with no more unnecessary drama.
Chapter 30 Haying Hard to Get
After dropping Daphne back at the office, William brought another secretary along with him to meet a crucial client. Given the significance of the meeting, professionalism was paramount. Daphne couldnât participate this time, not even for training purposes.
Jayden, who was also involved in the collaboration, received a call from Troy before the meeting. Troy asked if he wanted to go out for a drink together.
Jayden refused right away. âI canât. Iâm busy. Whatâs gotten into you to be drinking at this hour, by the way?
Troy wailed, âWhy do all of you have work? Iâve tried searching for so many people already!â
Since the client had yet to arrive, Jayden asked curiously, âWhat happened?â
âMs. Hoven rejected me!â
âWhatâs so alarming about that? Didnât you see it coming already? Alright. I must go now. Bye.â Jayden put his phone away and entered the conference room.
William asked lightly, âWho rejected who?â
âTroy got rejected by Ms. Hoven. Sheâs not going to work for him either.â
William chuckled before flipping open his documents.
Jayden understood his expression. After all, William had believed from the start that Emelie wouldnât quit her job and was just throwing a tantrum to get his attention; she was just playing hard to get.
Not only was Emelie not keeping her act up, but she had even rejected Troy outright.
Emelie believed she had made herself clear, thinking Troy must have understood her after he left angrily.
Who knew Troy would contact her two days later to invite her to his birthday party?
Without hesitation, Emilie said, âApologies, Mr. Spencer, but you know my leg is still injured, and I canât move around freely. I can send you a birthday present if you give me your address.â
âJust come! I donât need you to do anything other than stay by my side. Iâll get you whatever you need throughout the evening!â Troy insisted.
That would only exacerbate the misunderstanding regarding their relationship.
Emelie didnât understand why Troy was so persistent about her. Theyâd never cross paths before.
Troy added, âDo you think a thank you and lunch were enough to repay me for helping you the other night? Iâll call it even if you come to my birthday party tonight!â
That was why Emelie was apprehensive about owing people favors; they were always difficult to repay.
Emelie sighed quietly. âWhat kind of party is it? A gathering between friends orâ¦â
âOf course not. Iâll be hosting it at my place, and there will be a lot of guests. I wonât lie to you. Iâm only

seeking you out because I needed extra confidence.â
