Chapter 36
Winning Her Heart Back
Chapter 36 I Agree
Troy marched out of the room and began telling the guests downstairs, âLadies and gentlemen, I have an important announcement to make! Eme-â
Emelie clung onto the door frame with all her might before flinging Troyâs hand away.
Troy instantly fell on his ass out in the hallway. The guests downstairs quickly peered up to see what was
going on.
Emelie swiftly retreated further behind the door so none of the guests could see her. After composing herself, she snapped quickly, âThatâs enough, Mr. Troy!â
She continued, âNeither of us knows one another very well, so marriage is out of the question! I donât want to marry you, nor am I interested in you. If youâre still confused about how I feel, I can repeat myself to all your guests out there right now.â
Emelieâs words were undermining the Spencer familyâs pride.
Troy scrambled up from the floor, reaching out to grab her. But Emelie swiftly dodged him, only to end up bumping into someone behind her. She turned around.
William quickly stood in front of Emelie and said to Troy, âDonât you think youâve embarrassed yourself
enough?â
Henry sneered. âWasnât Emelie beneath you? Why does her marriage concern you then?â
Troy grumbled, âExactly! Didnât you say you want to marry Daphne? Let me marry Emelie, then! With one
for each of us, weâd be even!â
At the mention of âOne for each of us,â Emelie swallowed and asked uncomfortably, âWhat do you take me for, Mr. Troy? A piece of meat?â
âHey!â Troy was about to argue with her when William cut in.
âGo on then. Let everyone hear about how youâve been rejected by a woman.â
Troy was still upset. William shot Emelie a look before glancing at his father. âI may not want her as a
wife, but sheâs still mine. I get a say over who or when she marries for the rest of her life.â
Williamâs words felt like a threat of imprisonment to Emelle, which was a worse fate than having her marriage decided for her. She quipped, âIf I remember correctly, my contract with Cloudex Corporation was for three years of employment only, not to sell my soul to you. Donât misunderstand, Mr. Middleton.â
Emelie couldnât stay there anymore.
She made sure to save her pride by saying, âThank you for inviting me to your birthday party, Mr. Troy. I havenât properly wished you a happy birthday yet.â
âYouâ¦â Troy began saying.
Emelie quickly clarified herself. âWe made it clear that things would be even between us if I attended your
party tonight, which I did. Now that weâre even, Iâll be leaving Goodbye.â
She then sidestepped William and walked downstairs, ignoring Troyâs outstretched hand.
Emelle ignored the other guestsâ curious looks and left the Spencer residence right away. She then put on. her coat and got into the nearest taxi by the road.
The driver soon left the area once Emelie told him her apartmentâs location. The Spencer residence quickly disappeared from view
Only then was Emelie able to heave a long sigh. She closed her eyes and calmed herself down.
Williamâs words echoed in her mind-âHer? Sheâs beneath me.â
Even though sheâd long lost faith in him, sheâd still felt pain when she heard him say that. All of a sudden, Emelie realized why William had behaved the w
