Chapter 61
Winning Her Heart Back
Chapter 61 Greta Lowe
The next day, Emelle went to work as usual.
Holding a thermos, she went to the pantry to get warm water.
Since she hadnât officially started work yet, she leaned against the counter, took out her phone, and made
a call.
Ever since William mentioned her mother that day, Emelle had been feeling uneasy.
She spent two days looking for her old neighborâs phone number and finally dialed it.
The call connected. âHello, who is this?â
âHi, Ms. Barron, itâs Emelie.â
âOh, Emelie. How did you get my number?â
Emelie replied softly, âI had it before.â
Natalie Barron asked, âWhatâs the matter?â
âAre you still neighbors with my parents? How have they been lately?â

Natalie said, âI moved away a long time ago. I donât live there anymore. Iâm living with my daughterâinâlaw now.
âI donât have much contact with your parents, but they seemed fine the last time I saw them. I just donât know how theyâre doing now.â
Emelie felt disappointed. âI see.â
âEmelie, if you want to know how theyâre doing, why donât you just call them directly? I heard they said your went to work outside the city and havenât come back yet.â
Emelie simply said, âI did call, but it seems theyâve changed their phone number, so I couldnât get through.
Natalie muttered, âWhy didnât they tell their daughter that they changed their numberâ¦
âAnyway, do you want me to give you their current number so you can call them yourself?â
Emelie was very grateful. âYes, thank you.â
After jotting down the number, Emelie dialed it immediately.
The call went through with a couple of rings, and soon, she heard a familiar female voice. âHello?â
She instinctively hung up the phone.
That was her mother, Greta Loweâs voice.
Pressing her lips together, Emelie put away her phone. She turned around, took out a tea bag from the cabinet, and dropped it into the thermos.
Chapter 61 Greta Lowe
With a tap, she started the water dispenser.
As the warm water hit the tea bag, it released a faint fragrance. Her thoughts swirled with it as well.
Three years ago, she dated William.
He gave her three million dollars to repay her familyâs debts and sent a driver to take her back to her
home.
When her parents saw her, they didnât ask where she had been the night before or what had happened Instead, they blamed her for running away.
They said that the creditors had come to the house last night, causing a scene and smashing the furniture.
They scolded her for being reckless and disobedient, not considering the familyâs situation, and not realizing how difficult their lives were.
They even said they had been driven to the point of wanting to jump off a building.
Emelie numbly listened to their accusations and placed a card on the table,
âThere are three million dollars in there. Use it to pay off the debts.â
Her father, Ronan Hoven, was stunned. He immediately picked up the card and looked at her in disbelief.â Where did you get so much money?â
âDonât worry about that. Just use it to pay off the debts. You donât have to worry about the creditors anymore.â
Greta grabbed her hand and asked in grief, âDid you⦠did you do something bad? Huh? Tell me, Emelie! What did you do?â
Emelie suddenly felt like laughing, and she did laugh.
âSomething bad? What do you mean by bad? You took me as collateral for the debts. Do you really think that putting me in the hands of those people wonât lead to anything bad?â
Greta cried out, âEmelie⦠we really have no way out. If we still had a way, we would never let you-â
âI know youâre at your witsâ end, but Iâm not your only choice.
âI have two sisters. Of course, they shouldnât suffer either. I just donât understand why you chose me.â
No one was at fault. No one should have suffered, but she was the one who was abandoned and was also the one her parents cared about the least.
Greta shook her head in tears. âNo, itâs not like thatâ¦
Emelie didnât want to say anything anymore. âTake the money, Iâm leaving. I wonât contact you anymore.â
With that, she left in the car. In the rearview mirror, she saw Greta chasing after her. Yet she didnât stop the car, nor did she look back.
For the next month, she felt deeply distressed. A blood relationship of over 20 years couldnât be broken
just like that. In the end, she compromised and called home.
Unexpectedly, Greta was cold and said, âYou have nothing to d
