CHAPTER 73
Winning Her Heart Back
Chapter 73 Ambitious
Emelle passed in her tracks, Looking back, she could see that the two women had disappeared around the hallwayâs corner.
She didnât know them, nor hail she ever interacted with them.
Suddenly being called a set left her uncertain if it was even directed at her
Afterhesitating for a moment, Emelle decided not to chase after them for an explanation.
Since she was new to the area, she thought it would be best to avoid any unnecessary trouble.
As she made her way back to her rooms, a heavy feeling settled in her chest
After enjoying a soothing hot shower, she changed into clean clothes and started drying her hair.
Suddenly, she sneezed a few times, feeling a chill creeping through her body.
She didnât think much of feeling a bit chilly in the moming that, it seemed she had caught a cold, probably from Jet skiing and being out in the
wind.
Emelie touched her forehead and was relieved to find that she didnât have a lover.
As she came out of the bathroom, she spotted William lounging on the living room couch.
He was already dressed in a suit.
He gestured toward the table, saying, âThereâs water there. Finish itâ
Emelie walked over, puzzled. The liquid had a rich, dark color. She sniffed it and realized it was a cup of ginger tea.
Taking a sip, she felt warmth spread from her stomach throughout her body.
She couldnât help but smile, âThank you, Mr. Middleton.â
William asked, âHow close are you and Samuel?â
Emelie took a moment before answering. âWeâve had two meals together and had coffee once.â
William sneered, âAnd thatâs enough for you to introduce her sister to me?â
Emelie held her tea and asked, âMr. Middleton, did you forget about Ms. Swanson? She pursued you before.â
William genuinely couldnât recall. âWhen did that happen?â
âIt was three years ago,â Emelie explained.
âYou attended the
the freshmen welcome party at Capebatt University as an alumnus
âYou gave a speech on stage, and she was smitten with you instantly. She even tried to pursue you for a while.â
William couldnât remember, âWhat was my reaction at the time?â
âIt seemed like you werenât very interested,â Emelic answered.
With his legs crossed, William asked, âIf I wasnât interested back then, why would you think I am now?â
Emelie wondered if William was saying he had no feelings for Melanie,
She was uncertain. âArenât you two dating?â
William glanced at her, his tone teasing, âSo youâve always
sassumed we were acti
we were a couple?
âIf thatâs what you thought, then why did you end up in bed with me that night? Youâre knowingly playing the role of a third wheel?â
Emelie was caught off guard.
She hadnât anticipated him saying that.
In an instant, she felt the blood rush to her face, which then drained away, leaving her pale with shock.
Admittedly, she wasnât exactly a saintly figure, or else she wouldnât have willingly chosen to be romantically involved with him.
But that night, it was he who initiated the conversation about their first time together three years ago.
It left her emotionally shattered and delenseless, and he took advantage of her vulnerability.
She couldnât believe he was now turning the situation around and ridiculing her.
Emelle felt a wave of coldness wash over her. Her hands were shaking as she held onto her tea. She was unable to find the words to speak.
William hadnât expected such a strong reaction from her and decided not to tease her any further.
Chapter 73 Artelunda
âThereâs nothing between me and her, so donât overthink it.â
So there was nothing between William and Melanie, not even dating. But Emelie no longer belloved him.
Fortunately, she would soon be able to move away from him and escape his manipulations.
Emelie managed to compose herself and then reconsidered,
Putting aside Samuelâs character, when it came to Melanie, she was just a young, naive girl.
If she ended up getting hurt because of her involvement with this man, Emelie would feel responsible.
âIf youâre genuinely uninterested in Ms. Swanson, Mr. Middleton, I suggest you fire her as soon as possible,â she suggested.
William seemed indifferent. âWhy?â
âSheâs here with the intention of developing a relationship with you. If youâre not interested, itâs best to reject her promptly.
âOtherwise, the longer she invests, the more emotionally involved she becomes, and the easier sheâll be hurt.â
William found that Emelie was quite good at finding excuses.
First, she got rid of Cindy. Now, she wanted to drive away Melanie, all to have him to herself.
William wondered why he hadnât noticed before how ambitious she was.
But Emelieâs genuine concern for him made him hesitate, William pondered whether he should actually let her be âsharedâ.
