Chapter 219: 134 The Real Culprit (First Update)_3
The Prime Minister's Darling
âSummon the residence physician,â Lady Ling ordered.
âYes,â Maid replied.
After the maid went to summon the residence physician, Lady Ling went to Gu Changqingâs courtyard, âI noticed your face is injured. I brought some golden wound medicine for you.â
No sooner had she finished speaking than she noticed Gu Changqingâs errand boy was already applying some medicine to his wounds.
She smiled, walked over and said, âWell? This doesnât look like the wound medicine from our residence. Is it a new remedy from the military camp?â
Gu Changqing paused for a moment, âNo, it was given by a doctor outside.â
âHow can you casually use medicines from outside? Better use the one from our residenceâ Lady Ling passed her golden wound medicine to him.
Indifferently, Gu Changqing said, âNo need, this one is fine.â
Lady Ling was taken aback, she smiled and took back the wound medicine, âWell, as you wish.â
After a pause, she added, âChangqing, this is a matter between you brothers. As your aunt, I shouldnât interfere. But Chenglin is your biological younger brother. No matter how much he is in the wrong, you shouldnât decide his guilt based only on your wifeâs words. Iâm not saying youâre wrong. Iâm just saying such a decision will make Chenglin believe that you are biased towards your wife, no longer loving him.â
Gu Changqing retorted, âIf being fair one time is considered favoring others, then what do you call my past indulgence for him?â
Lady Ling was taken aback, and after pause she said, âBut heâs your brother. You should favor your brotherâ¦â
Instead of continuing, Gu Changqing changed the subject, âAunt, did the Yao family really kill my mother?â
Lady Ling looked at him curiously, âWhy are you suddenly asking this?â
Gu Changqing pensively replied, âThere have always been rumors in the residence that my mother was killed by the Yao family.â
Lady Ling gave a light laugh, âThese are all baseless accusations. Listen to them if you will, but be careful not to take them to heart.â
âI have evidence. Itâs because of this evidence I believed it for so many years,â said Gu Changqing.
âWhat evidence?â Lady Ling inquired.
Gu Changqing explained, âDuring my motherâs illness, someone wrote a letter to my father. The gist was to express affection and inquire about when my father intended to marry her into the residence. The letter fell into my motherâs hands, and her condition worsened.â
Lady Ling was visibly surprised, âI didnât anticipate such an occurrence.â
Gu Changqing recalled, âThe Yao family was my motherâs good friend. In those days, they were frequently seen coming and going from Marquis Residence. Somebody saw the Yao family secretly place this letter in my fatherâs study. A few days later, my mother called the Yao family over, and outrightly asked her if she wanted to be my fatherâs successor wife. At that time, I was eavesdropping from outside the door. Had she admitted then, I would have been saved from bearing this resentment for so many years.â
Lady Ling widened her eyes in surprise, âDid she refuse? And then why did she write the letterâ¦â
Gu Changqing said, âIn front of my mother, she acted lofty and virtuous. However, behind her back, she was already engaged in a clandestine affair with my father. Tell me, wasnât my mother literally killed by her anger?â
Lady Ling gave a dry laugh, âWith so much evidence at hand, why were you asking previously if the Yao family was your motherâs killer?â
Gu Changqing replied firmly, âBecause today she said that she hadnât done a single thing to apologize to us.â
Lady Ling gave a light laugh, âJust because she said it, you believed it?â
Gu Changqing held tightly the dagger he had managed to take from the Yao family, âShe came over today prepared to die. What need is there to lie at such a time?â
Lady Ling replied, âPerhaps for her children?â
Gu Changqing said, âGu Yan has his sister, he is not interested in the Marquis Residenceâs properties.â
Lady Ling smiled lightly, âIs this also something she stated?â
Gu Changqing shook his head. It was indeed something Mrs. Yao had claimed, but he had more so felt it from his own perception of Gu Jiao and Gu Yan.
Gu Changqing looked at Lady Ling and asked, âAunt, who do you think was the one who truly caused my motherâs death?â
Lady Ling silently squeezed her hand shut.
