Chapter 285 - 159: Returning Home (Second Update) _3
The Prime Minister's Darling
Yao Familyâs matriarch didnât know, but she was celebrating too soon.
To Yao Familyâs matriarch, fairness was just for show.
Once everyone left the room and only Gu Yan remained, Yao Familyâs matriarch had her maid bring a large box. She opened it and took out a big, red persimmon, handing it to Gu Yan, âThis âKing of Persimmonsâ was bought by your eldest uncle at a high price. Your grandmother saved it specially for you. Try it.â
âIs there only one?â Gu Yan asked.
Yao Familyâs matriarch was startled.
Gu Yan said, âThen Iâll save it for sister and little Jingkong.â
âThey have their own; this one is for you!â Yao Familyâs matriarch called the maid in the room and handed her the box, âYesterday, uncle brought persimmons. Pick the two biggest ones for Jiaojiao and that child.â
Gu Yan frowned unconsciously as Yao Familyâs matriarch didnât even use little Jingkongâs name.
âIâm going to find mom,â he made an excuse and left.
However, he didnât look for Yao Familyâs matriarch but headed to the small garden where little Jingkong was playing.
Little Jingkong was joyfully building a snowman on the ground, while Gu Jiao watched him.
The maid from Yao Familyâs matriarchâs courtyard brought two persimmons, one for Gu Jiao and one for little Jingkong.
Little Jingkong, being a sensible and content child, exclaimed, âWow, wow, wow! Such a big, red persimmon! Jiaojiao, can I eat it?â
Gu Jiao nodded.
Little Jingkong began sitting in the snow peeling the persimmon.
Gu Yan observed his own persimmon and then looked at those of little Jingkong and Gu Jiao, his expression suddenly turned cold.
He had actually seen it; there was another large persimmon in the box. He thought the maid would give it to little Jingkong and Gu Jiao, but unexpectedly, she had quietly tucked the box away and swapped in two smaller persimmons for them.
It was obvious who had instructed this.
That persimmon was definitely saved for Gu Jinyu.
The grandmother did not truly love Yao Familyâs children.
It was somewhat understandable for Marquis Residenceâs people to favor Gu Jinyu, given they had raised her for so many years and had formed attachments.
Yet, the grandmother hadnât even met the three of them and had saved the biggest persimmon for him and Gu Jinyu who hadnât even visited today.
Gu Yan was furious!
He walked over, took the persimmon little Jingkong had been peeling, and handed over his âKing of Persimmonsâ to him.@@novelbin@@
Little Jingkong paused, then said âOh,â wrapping his small hands around the big persimmon and struggled to peel it.
After he was done, he stretched out his hands towards Gu Yan, âHere.â
Now it was Gu Yanâs turn to be stunned, âWhat are you doing?â
Little Jingkong tilted his head, âArenât I supposed to peel the persimmon for you?â
IâI gave you the big persimmon to eat!
Something seemed to be choking Gu Yanâs chest.
Little Jingkong stuffed the peeled persimmon into his hands and then took his own smaller, half-peeled persimmon and continued peeling.
He was very focused.
Yet, Gu Yan felt a pain in his chest.
He squatted down, leveling his eyes with the little guy, âThis one is bigger, donât you see? Donât you want to eat the bigger one?â
Little Jingkong sincerely said, âI canât finish it.â
Little Jingkong felt it was only reasonable that big ones were for adults and small ones for children.
âAyan,â Gu Jiao smiled at Gu Yan.
Gu Yan swallowed the words that would expose Yao Familyâs matriarch.
He actually understood what Yao Familyâs matriarch was planning; he was his fatherâs most beloved son, and Gu Jinyu was his fatherâs favorite daughter, while Jiaojiao hadnât even lived in Marquis Residence, seemingly less favored.
Yao Familyâs matriarch didnât care for Jiaojiao and an adopted monk, but she also didnât want to offend Yao Familyâs matriarch who had rarely come back to her maternal home, so she put on different faces behind their backs.
