Chapter thirty eight

“Argh” I groaned as I shifted in the comfort of this bed. I opened my eyes only for them to meet with a familiar green one. I tried to sit up but I just put my sore muscles in misery.

“What happened?” Lucian said, worry on his toned face. This is not the time to admire your annoying soulmate, Raina. I looked away from him.

“Don’t act like you care, please” My voice was low and weak. He held my hand and whispered.

“I do care about you Raina. Much more than you can imagine” He explains.

“Why didn't you stand up for me when I needed you,” I asked trying not to let my tears fall. Why does he switch up like this? This minute he wants to make effort next minute I'm some stranger in his pack he can't trust.

“I’m sorry it seemed that way to you Raina”

“You’re not sorry you didn't stand up for me instead you are sorry I think that way? What is wrong with you Lucian? Do you want me here?” I couldn't help but ask because it does not seem that way to me. I looked up at him. He sighed.

“I sent Lucy to bring you back and apologize for her behaviour” He defended. I scoffed at his explanation.

“You know what she did to bring me here right?” I asked bringing my hopes up.

“She found you knocked out and brought you to the pack” He answered.

“No disrespect but how are you this powerful and so well known yet you have no judgement of character?” I inquired from him.

“She is my beta female” He argued.

“And I am your Luna. For whatever this is to work out you have to trust me” I explained.

“I need water please,” I asked. He stood up and poured me a glass of water. I took one large gulp to finish the water and asked for more. Lucian came back with the whole jug of water and I drank it all. I smiled at him.

“I am sorry I haven't been the best partner. I'm walking on being a better person for us both, I promise Raina. I really want this to work” He sounded desperate.

“Then why don't you want to trust me?” I asked.

“I do want to trust you but it's really hard when_” He started.

“When what? When you have to believe your beta female over me?” I finished for him.

“Yea but don't put it that way,” He said.

“There is no other way to put this. You don't trust me because your beta female does not trust me. How does it sound Lucian?”

“Stupid when you put it that way. I should have given you a chance especially when I was the one who brought you here”

“Yes. You should have” I agreed with him.

“Do you want to start over? Again?” He quickly added. I chuckled when I realised why he said ‘again’

“Only if you don't treat me like I am nobody. Next time you treat me like nobody I'm going to leave and not even Lucy will stop me” I threatened.

“I promise to treat you better, just like a queen you are” He promised.

“You want to talk about you and Lucy?” He asked.

“You didn't have to ask” I smiled at him.

“Where do I begin?” I teased.

“From the beginning” He answered.

“So Lucy hates me because I am that girl in her childhood” I started.

“That explains a lot” He smirked.

“A lot. She made me remember her this day I had a bad dream and I wanted to come to you she dragged me into the library and made me remember her. She made noises so you would come out and she left before you got to the library leaving me alone in the library” I explained.

“And then I wanted to tell you_,” I told him about every encounter I has with Lucy in the packhouse and he listened to me as I explained each encounter to him carefully even including times she manipulated my dreams.

I opened my eyes as pain shot through my body. That was a dream? For me to think Lucian will believe me over Lucy? What a sick imagination. I sighed when I took the decor of the room in. The whole room was nude. Very simple colours and decorations. I have never seen a room like this. Where is this place?

I tried to stop when I saw Lucian walk in.

“Where is that bitch” I screamed. As much as my body disagreed with this I did it either way.

“Not now Raina” Lucian sighed.

“Lucy did this to me. She fucking did this to me” I explained at the top of my voice.

“Just stop this already! Can you stop being so paranoid about everyone wanting to hurt you for just one day!” He screamed at me angrily. I looked up at him In shock.

“This is not about everyone, this is about Lucy wanting me dead. Why can't you just take a second to listen to me!” I cried.

“Because Raina you just hate her for no specific reason”

“Have you taken a second to maybe even think this story is the other way round?” I asked hoping he would see some sense in that. Who was I kidding? Lucian is so blinded by her.

“Why will she hate you?” He asked looking at me like I was stupid.

“Why will I hate her then? Did you ask yourself that Lucian?. Please leave” I begged him. I can't deal with this right now.

“Get to know us, Raina” He whispered.

“Are you fucking stupid! Get to know you. I know that you are stupid and I know Lucy is a snake. Maybe now you need to know me too.”

“You hate everyone, Raina. Give a new pack a chance and be at peace with yourself” He said. His advice would have made a lot of sense if he was not saying it in this situation.

“Just leave, please” I begged him again.

He moved closer to me, squatted and held my hand.

“In the cause of hating everyone for what you went through maybe, you should take a little more time for yourself and realize you might be pushing people who are reaching out to you” He kissed my hand and left me alone.
