Chapter forty
Little bites, alpha(to be taken down for editing)
âI think I'm ready to leave the room,â I said to her as soon as I finished my lunch. She had a look of shock that she quickly masked with an assuring smile.
âAre you sure?â I nodded.
âYes. I've been here all weekâ
âOk then. Let me take the dishes away and give you some time to prepareâ I stopped her.
âNo. Wait. I want to make food before we leaveâ
âWhat for?â She asked.
âTo apologizeâ I replied like it was very obvious what I wanted to do with the food.
âYeah sure. Let's leave now then. We should be done right in time for dinnerâ She Informed. I stood up and followed her to the kitchen.
âWhat do you want to prepare?â She asked me leaning the dirty dishes in the sink. I placed my hand on my chin and tilted my head like I was thinking.
âAhemm_ chicken soup?â I asked unsure of my choice.
âPerfect. We should hurry so we can be in time for dinnerâ She answered.
I was busy cutting the chicken when I started talking to Henrietta.
âDo you really think your mum doesn't hate me?â I asked. She smiled chopping the onions.
âTrust me, she doesn't. We've been talkingâ She added.
âAbout me?â I questioned.
âYesâ
âWhat does she think about me?â I asked.
âSheâs intrigued by you honestlyâ She chuckled moving to the garlic.
âIntrigued? Really why?â I asked.
âWell, you weren't exactly nice towards her and you spoke back at my dadâ She shrugged then continued immediately.
âThatâs kind of a big dealâ She explained.
âAnd you say she does not hate meâ
âShe doesn't. In fact, she thinks of you as someone who knows where she standsâ She continued.
âWhy will she think that?â I questioned further.
âYou knew Lucian wouldn't do anything to you or allow my dad to touch hence your attitude that dayâ I groaned pouring the chicken in the water filled pot.
âThatâs not a good reasonâ I grumbled. Rip laughed at me as she added the spice to the boiling chicken. She covered the pot and I quickly reduced the heat and covered the pot only halfway.
âWhy did you do that?â She asked.
âYou don't want the chicken overcooked â I explained. She nodded agreeing with me.
While we waited I cut some carrots and talked some more with Ri.
âYou know I sometimes think of what my parents would think of meâ I confessed.
âWhy?â
âI just know this is not who they wanted me to be. I feel like I could have done more, I can do more to be better for them so they can be proud of who I amâ I further talked.
âDonât feel that way. I am sure they are proud of the woman you have becomeâ She assured.
âI just can't help the feeling, you know, that I can do better than thisâ
âThey are proud either way. You've come a long way and you should be proud of how far you have comeâ She said to me wrapping me in a hug.
âIâve grown to be so hateful and selfishâ I mumbled in her neck.
âAnd that is not your fault. We can work on that. As soon as you start to trust us I'm sure you will be betterâ I suddenly felt weird. All these talks with Ri were already playing with my head. I quickly moved away from her embrace and stood up. She stood up almost immediately too with a panicked expression.
âWhatâs wrong?â She asked.
âUhm_nothing_ I_I_ just_ the chicken!â I shouted.
The rest of the preparation was done in silence. After the preparation, Henrietta offered to dish the soup while I changed my cloth so I did just that to change my cloth to a short gown that was fitted from my waist upwards while from the waist down to right above my knee was free.
I walked back downstairs to meet Henrietta. She already changed too.
âReady?â She asked. I nodded.
âYes, readyâ I nodded.
As we walked outside with the dished soup I realized I didn't even know where the old Alpha and his Luna stayed but instead of asking I just followed her. The walk was silent but I was at least thankful that she was helping me get out of the mess I got myself into. We walked further down until I came face to face with a whole house. A building I hadn't known existed. Lucian took this place out of his tour. I erased the thought of him away. I shouldn't be bothered by him anymore.
Henrietta knocked on the door and we waited for almost three minutes before we were answered.
âItâs open. Come in!â I heard her mumâs voice. I moved forward to open the door for Ri. She looked up at me and gave me a small smile before she entered. I closed the door after me.
Now standing face to face with the former Alpha and Luna all my courage suddenly vanished.
âWhat is she doing here?â Her dad asked.
âGood evening Mr Randolfrâ I greeted.
âGood evening dear. What brings you hereâ Her mum sounded ecstatic to see me. I forced a smile at her.
âI brought_â I nudged Riâs waist as she was already distracted.
âSorryâ She mumbled apologetically as she smiled at me.
âI wanted to apologise for my attitude the last time we metâ I started but before I could continue I was stopped when I got pulled into a tight hug.
âItâs fine dear. All is forgivenâ She announced but her husband did not look pleased with this but he still smiled at me.
âReally?â I asked to be sure.
âYes really. Join us for dinner dear. It's in an hourâ She invited. I smiled at her.
âThank youâ I hugged her again.
While we waited one hour Ri showed me around the house and she talked to me about when the place was built and other history surrounding the house. I listened to her carefully as she talked. We switched to something less serious before we were called down for dinner.
âWe will be right thereâ She shouted after her mum. I laughed at her and we both went to the dining table to have dinner.
We began dinner with the soup both Ri and I made. Halfway done with the soup the door was flung open.
âDonât tell me you finished the soupâ my body went stiff when I heard the familiar voice. I looked up to see Lucian in shorts and shirt, his hair rough. I didn't think he was going to be invited.
âHave your seat, Lucianâ His mum instructed. He didn't look happy that nobody took him seriously but he sat down. He served himself.
âYou know how much I love Chicken soupâ Lucian started again. I gave Ri a look. She only smiled and blew me a kiss. Did she plan all of this?
â Raina here decided to make us chicken soup before dinnerâ She did not have to add that.
âOh really,â He said.
âI made the soup with Ri. It was nothingâ I quickly added.
âStop it. I barely knew what I was doing. You did all the workâ Ri countered. I glared at her.
Definitely not what I expected for dinner.
