Forty nine
Little bites, alpha(to be taken down for editing)
âArenât you supposed to be teaching me?â He frowned trying to cut the potatoe.
âHow do you intend you learn if you don't cook?â I asked him laughing. I collected one of the potatoes and took another laugh.
âThis is how you do thisâ I showed him how I expected him to cut the potatoes. He didn't look pleased but he did it anyway. He took longer than anybody would but I understand he was just learning.
âYou make it sound so easyâ He complained after cutting the last one.
âIt is once you master it. We can stop, maybe cooking isn't just for youâ I said resting on the counter.
âHow I'm I supposed to cook you meals then?â He asked. I shrugged.
âCharlotte,â I said. He frowned at me and I laughed.
âWe should get back to work thenâ. He smiled.
âVery bossyâ He mumbled. I turned back to him
âWhat did you say?â He nodded, no.
âNothingâ I passed him the spoon.
âWhat I'm I supposed to do with this?â He asked swinging the spoon around.
âUse it to mash the washed potatoes in the bowl,â I said scooping butter on a smaller plate. He started to pound on the potatoe. I laughed at the amount of strength was putting into it.
âWhatâs so funnyâ Anybody who walks in will think I'm punishing him in a way. He looked so stressed out.
âYou don't need to pound on it like you're killing someoneâ
âIsnât it supposed to be mashed?â He groaned. He collected the spoon and pressed each piece of potato in the bowl until everything was mashed.
âWhat next?â He asked.
âSalt, pepper, butter_â
âWe still have a long way to goâ He cut me off.
âWe barely started anythingâ I reminded him.
âDoesnât feel that wayâ He laughed. I added a little amount of salt and pepper. I couldn't risk him using too much or too little in the fear of using too much. I passed him the milk and butter to add. I watched him mix everything in the mashed potatoeâ
âWhat should I do with this?â He asked raising the bowl of mashed potatoe up.
âThatâs done. You set it aside while we make gravyâ
âThat wasnât so hard actually,â He said smiling at the bowl. He looked so proud of himself.
âSays the person who complained throughoutâ I reminded.
âWe can forget about that. I made thisâ He smiled. I don't know what it was but I was really happy. Seeing him get this excited for making food.
âLetâs see how well you do at the end of the day,â I said to him.
âReduce the heatâ I instructed when he left the small pan on the cooker.
âOk,â He did as he was told. I gave him the butter to put into the pan. He placed the butter in the pan. While the butter was still melting I added corn starch.
âAdd this,â I said giving him the bottle of soy sauce. He turned the bottle over to pour.
âGeez, not that muchâ I screamed.
âYou gave me the whole bottleâ He rolled his eyes.
âI didn't say put everything. You're a terrible studentâ I laughed snatching the food from him.
âHey!. That's unacceptable. I made the mashed potatoesâ He defended himself.
âWhatever?â I rolled my eyes.
I added a tablespoon of soy sauce and a tablespoon of black pepper. I stirred this together for a while before asking him for water.
âWater,â I asked. He passed me the cup of water. I added a little quantity of water mixing it before adding another. I did this until I had the perfect texture.
âPut that in a bowl,â I said turning off the heat.
âDone?â He asked.
âYes,â I answered laughing at his reaction.
âI donât think cooking is for meâ He mumbled walked away with the pan.
âBecause you don't like that I'm better at something,â I said.
âMaybeâ He replied.
âYou can teach me anything you want in return, that way we are both bad studentsâ I suggested.
âYouâre joining me for trainingâ He announced.
âNot something like thatâ I whined.
âI remember you saying anything I wantâ I reminded me. I sighed.
âFine. I can't be that bad. I learnt some things from my parentsâ I added.
âWe shall seeâ He smirked.
âNow for the steak, I'm leaving it all to youâ I announced.
âWhat? Thatâs not fairâ
âIâll tell you what to want to do. I'll be here while you make itâ I informed him.
âPromise?â I rolled my eyes.
âPromiseâ I replied. He smiled taking the pan from me.
âJust a little, yes. That's perfect. Now add a little lesser black pepper to that. Turn it over like you did when you added the salt. Geez, Lucian! Nooâ I screamed when he added more black pepper.
âArgh! Rain! Don't yell your commandsâ He complained turning to face me. I took a sip of my juice and looked up at him.
âItâs going to burn if you keep complaining. Add some butterâ I instructed. He turned away from me to add the butter.
âJust one scoop Lucian,â I said resting my back in the chair I got Lucian to get for me.
âYouâre very bossyâ
âYou already said that Lucian. Add two cloves of garlic and keep each side facing the pan for four minutes eachâ I instructed.
âIâm I supposed to time that?â He asked.
âNo. To cook, you need a good judgment of time so practice that nowâ I said taking the last sip of my juice. I waited for him to be done before standing up.
âItâs doneâ.
âNow leave it in a plate to coolâ He did as I said.
âWhat now?â He swiped imaginary sweat from his forehead.
âClean the utensils we usedâ
âDo we really have to?â He asked.
âOf course. Get to workâ I said.
âYouâre not helping?!â
âI didn't cookâ I smirked resting on the wall beside him. Like the baby he was, he complained throughout. When he finished I hugged him.
âWhat is this for?â He asked wrapping his arm around me, returning my hug.
âYou did a good jobâ I praised him.
âI thought I was a terrible student?â He asked his hands now on my waist.
âNot terrible for a first timeâ
âThank youâ He thanked me.
âServe this and let's have lunchâ
âOkâ I went to the dining while I left the serving to him.
