Forced To Marry The King
I held onto Alexander as people began running everywhere. I almost fell too many times from being bumped into so I held onto him for dear life.
Alexander grabbed a guard from nearby, who was trying to get the people to calm down.
"What is going on?" Alexander asked harshly to the guard.
"A woman was stabbed to death in the garden, we believe there are intruders in the castle," the guard explained.
"Get everyone to the safe areas. My wife and sister should be escorted to my office. I want ten guards with them all times. Make sure the castle is on lockdown, nobody in or out," Alexander said and the guard nodded and left to do what he was told.
A moment later ten guards came with his sister behind them. I went with them, listening to everything around me, that included my sister in law complaining.
When we got to the office, five of the guards stood around Alexander's office while the others stood outside.
"Worst birthday ever," She complained.
"What is your name?" I asked slightly embarrassed at not knowing her name.
"Bethany," She huffed and focused on her nails.
I thought to myself of how different Bethany and Alexander are. She is childish, rude, and disrespectful while Alexander keeps to himself, expects only what is right, and has a good sense of right and wrong.
In order for behavior like this to stick you must be raised around it or taught by yourself. Bethany must've been spoiled and never told no, also jealous as she could never take claim to the throne.
I could tell my brother was jealous of me, even if he would never admit it. I had royal blood and he didn't, same as Bethany except she only had half.
Alexander came in awhile later. I had no idea what was happening outside that door.
"Are you both ok?" Alexander asked but looked at me. I felt bad because even if she is rude and horrible to be around she is still his family.
"My birthday is ruined so no," Bethany whined and sat on the chair pouting. I just nodded my head that we were ok.
"Woman committed suicide in the garden, wrists were slit and she was known for having suicidal thoughts. Her friend found her and started screaming, this caused a panic," Alexander explained.
Nobody was truly in danger which was good. I mean it's a horrible thing for what that woman did and went through, especially her friend. No attack on the palace though.
Bethany stomped out of the room and began throwing her tantrum as she walked down the hallway.
"Are you alright, having to deal with her must have been horrible," he said and gestures to the guards to leave.
"She is still your family," I said knowing he was being too harsh.
"Not if I disown her" Alexander said sitting down. I gave him a look of shock.
"You are all she has left, she can't survive without the titles she has" I said trying to convince him to not be so harsh.
"She is the only half blooded bastard in my family history. It has been pure blooded royalty since the beginning, but my horrid father just couldn't control himself around the maids," Alexander said looking bored but sounding furious.
"Alexander, if she can marry..."
"No, she won't. I've tried too many times for that woman by making deals, paying plenty, and so much more for her to marry and all she does is complain and decline. I've given her chance and chance again, all she does is disappoint," Alexander said standing up.
"What are you going to do? Disown her and throw her to the streets?" I asked not believing he would do that.
"Yes, life usually isn't fair but it was more than fair to her. It's time for her to face the consequences," he said.
"At least give her a fair warning, give her enough money to survive on her own till she is able to get a job," I asked trying to bargain with him.
"I'll think about it, but enough about that. Did you enjoy yourself before havoc broke out?" He asked me sitting down.
I was sitting on a sofa to the side, next to the bookcase.
"I don't really enjoy fancy galas like that," I said being as honest as possible.
"Neither do I, but I noticed you speaking to the other ladies. Is everything ok with them?" He asked and seemed curious, probably about what we talked about.
"Yes, but I'm no fan of gossip," I said.
"Understandable, tomorrow there will be a public event held. Dress appropriately, and no matter what do not make a scene, do you understand?" Alexander asked and looked me dead in the eyes.
This event was important, I could tell that much. Also, something I wouldn't like if he believes I would make a scene about it.
"May I ask what the event is?" I asked wanting to know.
"No" he said going back to his paperwork.
"Then I cannot promise," I told him.
He looked up and I could tell he was upset with me.
"We both, especially you, must go. Just don't make a scene, you don't want to find out what happens to those who don't listen," Alexander said walking up to me.
He took a stray piece of hair that fell from the front and pushed it back. I couldn't make eye contact with him so I looked down at my dress.
"Go to bed and heed my warning for tomorrow, dear" Alexander said holding my chin in his hand.
I nodded and he went back to his desk. I left the room to go to sleep knowing I was tired and everyone was gone by now.
I was terrified of tomorrow and hoped that whatever it was wouldn't be too bad. What kind of public event could be that horrible for me to make a scene?
